Chapter 11: Pick a Partner
The next morning, Dhalia woke up at her usual time, only to find Alice already awake and getting ready for the day. Alice seemed to be in a cheerful mood, humming a tune while going about her morning routine. Dhalia couldn't help but call out to Alice, her voice a little louder due to the distance between them.
"Hey, Alice," Dhalia said, catching Alice's attention. Alice glanced around and quickly hushed Dhalia, mindful of their sleeping companion, Grace, who lay peacefully in bed, resembling a contented child.
Curiosity piqued, Dhalia got out of bed and approached Alice, who was standing in front of the mirror, applying her makeup. Concern laced Dhalia's voice as she asked, "Are you alright, Alice?"
Alice turned to face Dhalia, a hint of confusion in her eyes. "Why would I be upset?" she replied, her tone filled with genuine surprise.
Dhalia hesitated for a moment, realizing that Alice seemed unfazed by the events of the previous night. "Oh, don't worry about last night," Dhalia admitted with a soft chuckle. "I might have overreacted a bit. But you know, these little things can't diminish my love for him. I still love Henry, and I'll do whatever it takes to win his heart."
Dhalia couldn't help but find humor in Alice's unwavering optimism. Despite the previous setback, Alice's determination and unwavering love for Henry shone through, bringing a smile to Dhalia's face.
After everyone had gotten ready, the group set off for their next destination, eagerly anticipating what lay ahead. Excitement filled the air as the group prepared for their next adventure. The RV came to a stop near a picturesque lake, its serene waters reflecting the vibrant hues of the surrounding landscape. The breathtaking view left them in awe, their eyes widened by the natural beauty that stretched out before them.
Henry, taking charge of the situation, announced their plan for the day. "Everybody, gather your belongings," he said, his voice filled with enthusiasm. "We're heading to the other side of the lake on these boats and spending the night in a gorgeous lake house. But remember, only two people can go in each boat, and ask them to choose their partners.
As Henry's words sank in, the group's faces lit up with joy and anticipation. They couldn't believe their luck to have stumbled upon such a breathtaking location. The sheer serenity and tranquility of the surroundings were enough to captivate even the most jaded hearts.
Eagerly, they began to pair up, seeking companions who would share in the adventure that lay ahead. The atmosphere buzzed with a mixture of nervous excitement and hopeful anticipation. Laughter and playful banter filled the air as partners were chosen, their choices reflecting a mix of close friendships, budding romances, and a desire to deepen connections.
Jack wasted no time and immediately asked Grace to be his partner, when he heard Henry's instructions. As Jack's words hung in the air, the group members exchanged glances, their hearts fluttering with anticipation. Grace, caught off guard by Jack's swift invitation, burst into laughter, her joyous giggles adding a lighthearted atmosphere to the moment. It was a playful gesture that brought a smile to everyone's faces.
Meanwhile, Chris was about to express his desire to team up with Dhalia when she surprised him by speaking up first. Her voice carried a hint of eagerness as she turned to Henry, asking, "Can I go with you, Henry?"
The unexpected request sparked a flicker of surprise and amusement in Henry's eyes. He regarded Dhalia with a mix of curiosity and amusement before responding,
"Why not?" His reply held a touch of intrigue, as if he was intrigued by Dhalia's sudden choice.
In a hushed tone, Alice whispered in Dhalia's ear, expressing her concern. "Why do you want to go with him? Don't you trust me anymore? But this time, believe me, I won't make any mistakes, and we'll be able to achieve our goal."
Dhalia locked eyes with her friend, a moment of understanding passing between them. She smiled and replied, "Okay, let's give it a try," offering her trust once again. Alice returned the smile, gratitude shining in her eyes as she whispered, "Thanks."
Alice approached Henry, who was engrossed in a conversation with another individual about their stay and arrangements.
"Henry," Alice called out. He turned around, his attention now on her.
"Yes?" he responded.
With a hint of nervousness, Alice conveyed their decision. "I and Dhalia have decided that I'll go with you. Is that okay?" she asked, hoping to secure her place beside him.
Henry glanced over at Dhalia, who was engaged in conversation with Grace. He contemplated for a moment before responding, "Only on one condition – if you promise not to disturb me the whole time. Otherwise, I might just throw you into the lake. Got it?"
Alice felt a surge of fear wash over her momentarily, but her desire to spend some alone time with Henry overpowered her apprehensions. "Okay, I promise," she replied, determined to make the most of this opportunity.
