Athyn hated going to the library at her school. Books had failed to hold her interest ever since she learned of them, but academy work required her to transfer old texts from ancient books, to storing crystals. Older Athyn saw her eighteen years old self moving through the bookshelves. Bored, fed up, anguished.
A sudden sniffling made her start, and she moved behind the bookshelf she'd been searching to find a guy, about her age, sitting on the floor at the end of the aisle between the shelves. Athyn rolled her eyes, more than ready to leave well enough alone, but something drew her to him.
She knelt in front of him, a huge tome held to her chest. "Are you OK?" she asked.
The youth raised his head to look at her. There were stars in his eyes.
