Chapter 161: Strongest Battle Mode

The man, bathed in lightning like a war god, was none other than the grandson of Makarov Dreyar, Lacassus, who had temporarily left Fairy Tail and inherited Makarov's bloodline.

When he arrived with unparalleled momentum, he brought enough shock for Elusa and Mirajane. The humanoid demon that seemed quite troublesome to them was effortlessly destroyed by him.

However, when Calvin mentioned the name Beecathu, both Mirajane and Elusa paused for a moment before bursting into laughter.

The nickname Beecathu existed in their distant memories.

When Calvin was still a teenager, he jokingly created many cards, and one of them was named Beecathu.

It was a small, round, yellow creature resembling a rodent, with two brown stripes on its back and a lightning-shaped tail. It had two blush-like red spots on its face, quite adorable.

The creature's ability was to release golden lightning from the red spots on its cheeks, somewhat resembling Lacassus's magic.

Initially just a joke, Calvin had impulsively named this summon "Lacassus," which naturally angered the then Lacassus, causing quite a stir. Eventually, Calvin changed the name, but for a long time afterward, he continued to call Lacassus "Beecathu."

Actually, it wasn't surprising that Calvin taunted him suddenly. Remember, the last time Calvin encountered Lacassus, he was defeated by him and the Thunder God's Congregation. He was humiliated, captured by the Six Generals, and even subjected to personality splitting by the leader of the Six Generals. That kind of resentment wasn't something easily dissipated.

Hearing this long-forgotten nickname, Lacassus's veins bulged, clearly infuriated. He vented his rage on Hades, charging forward to headbutt him.

Boom!

Hades was caught off guard, making forehead-to-forehead contact with Lacassus, staggering back a couple of steps.

"You brat!" Hades roared in anger. He had been carelessly attacked by the other party.

Though not injured, he felt his dignity had been trampled upon.

Only the heavens knew why Hades was so sensitive.

Perhaps it was because Lacassus's demeanor resembled Makarov's when he was young.

Lacassus didn't continue the attack but cautiously eyed Hades. Besides Hades's terrifying aura, his appearance alone made Lacassus extremely wary. In Makarov's home, there was a picture of the Second Generation Guild Master of Fairy Tail, who apparently resembled the current Hades, albeit with entirely different auras.

Although he wasn't quite sure what had happened, one thing was undeniable: the other was an enemy.

Hades's expression fluctuated, then he glanced at Lacassus with an amused tone. "Are you Makarov's kin? One after another, it never ends."

Saying this, he extended a finger, motioning towards Lacassus. "Come, let me see how much of Makarov's talents you possess."

Lacassus was about to act, but a voice from behind stopped him.

"Beecathu, that guy isn't someone you can defeat in a one-on-one fight. Don't be reckless."

Lacassus turned back, glared at Calvin, then transformed into lightning and darted to the side of the three. He coldly spoke, "Call me Beecathu again, and I'll finish you off first!"

Hearing this threat, Elusa and Mirajane couldn't help but burst into laughter again, and Lacassus gave the two women an annoyed glare.

Calvin didn't take Lacassus's threat seriously. After preparing for so long, his magic was finally complete.

The cards in his hand emitted a glow, transforming into two beams of light aimed at his summon.

One beam targeted the Crimson-Eyed Black Dragon. The next moment, the dragon underwent rapid changes—its massive body gradually shrank, the portion below its neck turning into a hilt, and its head morphing into a blade.

In a short span of time, the formidable black dragon transformed into a splendid black blade adorned with two brilliant crimson gems—the "True Red Eyes" of the black dragon.

Despite its sword-like appearance, this weapon was actually called the "Crimson-Eyed Black Dragon Sword." As the transformation finished, it flew instantly to Calvin, emanating a faint black aura.

Simultaneously, another beam split into two, targeting the Dragon Slayer and the Dark Mage. In an instant, both summons were surrounded by radiance and transformed into two specters flying towards Calvin.

Mid-flight, the two specters merged into a single new apparition—a figure resembling the Dark Mage, but now wearing armor instead of mage robes and wielding a longsword combining a staff and the Dragon Slayer sword.

The apparition didn't pause but went straight into Calvin's body. At this moment, the last card in Calvin's hand also glowed, summoning a mysterious altar that eerily covered him.

However, Calvin soon stepped out again, arriving in front of the floating Crimson-Eyed Black Dragon Sword and grasping it gently.

Instantly, a dragon's roar echoed, as if a mighty black dragon was roaring towards the sky.

At this moment, Calvin's appearance had drastically changed. He wore the armor of the apparition that had entered his body earlier. Besides the Crimson-Eyed Black Dragon Sword, he wielded another weapon, clearly belonging to the previous apparition.

It may sound lengthy, but all this happened in the blink of an eye. Others merely sensed a few flashes of light and saw Calvin reappear before them in an entirely new form.

This version of Calvin was unseen by the others, evoking an indescribable sense of awe.

After all, the magic emanating from Calvin couldn't be faked. Just standing there, he exuded a faint but distinct pressure.

This appearance might seem time-consuming, but Calvin had minimized the steps as much as possible. Ordinarily, he would have needed to first merge the Dragon Slayer and Dark Mage into the Super Mage Swordsman, Dark Paladin. Then, he would have to use the Chaos Ritual to fuse Dark Paladin with himself and finally turn the Crimson-Eyed Black Dragon into a weapon.

Just describing it sounds troublesome.

However, this stance of Calvin could be considered his strongest combat mode yet.

Ever since Edras's return, he had been contemplating how to effectively use his increased magical power, eventually devising this mode.

When he initially created specialized cards for examinations, the time spent was less than anticipated, allowing him leisure to think about streamlining this process. Though it still required some time, it was much faster than before.

Calvin smiled faintly, exuding confidence as he spoke, "Apologies for the wait, Hades. Let the second round of battle begin, but this time it's four against one. I hope your old bones can withstand it!"

As his words fell, the three figures beside him also surged forward. The combined momentum of the four surged overwhelmingly towards Hades.

Hades just sneered disdainfully, then burst into wild laughter, arrogantly shouting, "Hahaha! How interesting! I'll show you little brats what despair truly means!"
