Chapter 3: Out of options
Felling the unfamiliar hand grasping his wrist, Gem felt a cold shiver run down his spine.
His hand jolted back in reflex, and he immediately opened the door and jumped out of the truck. Just then the flickering headlight suddenly turned off, submerging him in total darkness.
Gem started to feel extremely anxious, his back was already drenched with cold sweat, and his forehead also seems to start sweating, leading to most of his body being covered in sweat.
After getting out of his truck, the cold wind striking against his sweat-covered body quickly led to him feeling cold.
Now Gem found himself in absolute darkness with extreme cold causing him to shiver feverishly.
The events that happened vividly passed through his memory causing him to stay in a trans-like state for a while.
During all this he felt something in his hand, fortunately, it was his phone, he had somehow managed to keep a hold of despite everything.
Without further delay, he quickly turned on his flashlight and surveyed his surrounding.
Everything was just as before covered in a veil of darkness though something new was that, he couldn't see the interior of the truck, it was filled with murky darkness, prohibiting the light from passing inside.
Felling the eerie presence inside the truck he slowly backed away towards the cliff. As he reached the edge, he soon discovered he was out of options.
In desperate hope of a miracle, he flashed his flashlight into the Clift, but to his disappointment, there was nothing other than absolute darkness. The light couldn't reach a destination as it dissolved in the great darkness, which seemingly, expanded forever.
The cliff was like a gate to the underworld.
Disappointed by his discovery he was about to turn around but he halted his movement as he saw a hair clip which was quite near the cliff.
Just then he was suddenly able to recall a news article about how a girl died on the very cliff. It was quite old news seemingly when he was in his teen years. It was quite sensational news because a child from a nearby school fell down a cliff trying to recover her fallen hair clip. This was taken as huge news because a teacher was directly responsible for monitoring the children when the scandal happened. later this caused the school to shut down. Because of following paranormal activity in the school which was on the edge of the mountain, it started to get a reputation.
Due to this incident, there aren't any residents
in this mountain.
Shocked by the quick recollection of memory seemingly out of nowhere. Jem mused if he had such a memory in his student life he wouldn't have gotten such bad grades.
Just as he was letting his thoughts drift in various places. A sudden sound of a person running in a vertical direction was heard.
He quickly turned the flashlight over along with his head and searched for the source of the sound. Despite searching for something for a minute or two there was nothing, he once again turned around hoping to repeat the incident and find the culprit.
While looking at the cliff once again he noticed that the hair clip had vanished from its previous place.
Getting scared by the spooky situation. Gem slowly realized he was getting tired mentally and physically so, he decided to formulate a plan to get himself out of the hopeless situation.
He soon started to formulate his current option
1. Get in the truck
2. Stay where you are till the morning
3. Walk down the mountain
Looking at the option available he was not very thrilled. All the options he had didn't seem feasible.
Walking down the mountain was not something possible. Just then Gem's smartphone vibrated giving him a small fright. He hoped it wasn't a creepy message or photos. Fortunately or unfortunately it was a notification indicating that the charge of his mobile was less than 10%.
Okay with that options 2 and 3 immediately got canceled because it was impossible to survive the night alone in this darkness without a source of light.
So, left with only one remaining option he decided to steel his resolve for the horror he was about to face.
