Class Structure

Alex woke up due to a sound coming from his dorm room. "Who is it at this hour?" he groaned.

Being a late-morning person, Alex wasn't used to waking up early in the morning.

He tried to ignore the knocking on the door, but the person outside seemed very determined.

Feeling annoyed, Alex headed to the door and opened it. "Who is it?" he asked.

To his surprise, he saw his big sister, Rachel Hart, with black hair and green eyes, looking at him with a panicked expression.

After a moment, he heard her say, "Alex, what took you so long to open the door?"

Rachel entered his dorm as if it was nothing and addressed him, saying, "Alex, how long are you going to stand there?"

Alex walked towards Rachel, sat opposite her, and asked, "Good morning, sis. Do you want a coffee or something?"

After receiving a response that there was no need, Alex waited for her to explain the purpose of her visit.

"Alex, are you okay?" Rachel asked with a concerned face.

Alex replied, "Yes, why do you ask?"

Seeing Rachel still looking at him, trying to read his mood, Alex felt there was no need to waste each other's time and asked, "So, where did you hear that I got rejected?"

Rachel felt a little uneasy but answered, "Ah, Jack told me."

Alex knew who Jack was; he was Amelia's older brother and the current student council president.

"What else did he tell you to tell me?" Alex probed further.

Rachel, feeling unsure whether to tell or not, finally said, "He told me to say that Amelia wants you to stop bothering her again."

Rachel waited for denial and stubbornness from Alex, but she heard an unexpected reply.

"Okay," Alex said. He couldn't be bothered with Amelia, and he didn't want to be either.

Rachel had prepared all night just to make Alex give up on Amelia.

Seeing Rachel's stupefied expression, Alex said, "Don't worry, I won't bother Amelia again. After all, I don't want any enmities between our families. I won't put father in a difficult position."

Alex was aware that his family worked for Amelia's family, the River family. Their families were friends on the surface, but in reality, they were just subordinates of the River family.

Rachel hastily replied, "That wasn't what I meant. I just want you to not waste your time. I know you've pursued her since you were six."

Alex said, "Sis, everything has an end in this world, even love. And I finally realized that there won't be anything between Amelia and me."

Alex reassured her, "So, don't worry. I won't bother her and cause trouble for our family."

Rachel still couldn't believe her little brother could give up so easily, but she decided not to pursue the matter anymore and just said goodbye and left.

After seeing Rachel out, Alex checked the time and realized it was almost time for class. He quickly took a shower and headed to the classroom.

After navigating the long halls of the academy for a while, Alex finally reached his classroom.

As Alex stepped into the classroom, he was greeted by an environment reminiscent of a college classroom on Earth. The seats for the students were arranged in an oval shape, surrounding a central platform.

The classroom was almost full, so Alex headed to an empty spot in the middle. As he scanned the surroundings, he could see all the main cast members of TOC.

'In reality, they look more otherworldly,' Alex thought.

While looking around, Alex made eye contact with Amelia, but he didn't stop and just continued to look around, heading to the seat he had marked.

Amelia saw Alex come to class and expected him to head to the seat behind her as usual. However, she was surprised to see him heading to a different seat.

She froze, struggling to believe that Alex wouldn't continue hovering around her and pestering her just because she had asked him to stay away through her big brother.

Her senses returned only when her friend Sarah, shaking her head towards Alex, inquired, "Hey, did something happen between you two?"

Amelia responded, "Nothing happened," and turned her attention forward.

After taking his seat, Alex thought about the class structure in TOC.

There were 10 classes in each year, and each class had a maximum of one hundred students, and Alex was in Class 101.

There weren't any rankings between the classes. Instead, there were differences in origins. Most people in Class 101 had influential backgrounds.

This arrangement wasn't done by the academy officially, but it was an unspoken structure. If you were to ask the academy why you were placed in your current class, all they could say was that the class arrangements were done randomly.

That's why nowadays, students didn't care about this and accepted it as normal. Even if people were classified according to their origins, there wasn't any discrimination between students. It was just a nominal structure.

What made Alex feel a little better was that in "TOC," there wasn't any bullying or complicated enmity between students like in other stories.

There was only a student council and clubs, and even in those, there weren't any student faction plots or anything like that.

In "TOC," students mostly focused on studying and training to graduate early with higher scores to secure a job in one of the factions managed by the High Council, like the World Justice Association (WJA) or the World Security Association (WSA).

The reason Alex felt better was that he wasn't an awakened person yet. If he subjected to any bullying, there was a chance he could die, or the academy would find out about his unawakening and expel him, launching an investigation to figure out why he had become unawakened.

Alex snapped out of his thoughts after seeing the professor enter the classroom, signaling that class was about to start.
