Chapter 5: Embers Of The Past

The farmers and villagers burst into Gami and Lily's house, their faces twisted in anger. Gami and Lily were confused and frightened as they were dragged outside.

"Why are you doing this?" Gami pleaded.

"You have brought a curse upon our crops by bringing that necromancer here," Farmer Castreim sneered. "We can't let you stay here any longer."

As they were tied up on a wooded altar, the villagers grew more and more hostile. The chief heard the noise and rushed to see what was happening. "What's going on?" the chief asked, but Castreim quickly lied and accused Gami and Lily of conspiring with the necromancer. The chief tried to intervene, but the farmers were too angry to listen. They quickly tied up the chief and left the three captives on the altar, waiting for their fate to be decided. Lily tried to stay strong, but she was terrified. She had never seen the farmers so angry before. "We'll get through this," Gami whispered, trying to comfort his lover. But the mood was tense and ominous, and the tone was urgent and fearful.

The villagers were divided, some believing that Gami and Lily were innocent while others were convinced of their guilt. The situation became tense and dangerous, with people shouting and pointing fingers at each other. The air was thick with anger and fear, and no one knew what would happen next. Meanwhile, Leivule set fire to all of the crops, the flames leaping up high into the sky and casting an eerie glow over the village. He then tore through the town's food depository, lighting it up with a fierce determination. The sound of crackling flames and breaking wood filled the air, as the villagers watched in horror. The scent of smoke and burning food filled their nostrils, making them cough and choke. The village was in chaos, and no one knew how they would survive.

Suddenly, Leivule appeared in the background, running towards the crowd of people surrounding Gami, Lily, and the town's chief. His face was twisted in anger and fear, and his voice was hoarse with emotion. "Everyone, it's horrible!" he yelled. "Gami lit our crops, animals, and barn on fire!"

The crowd erupted in a frenzy of anger and frustration, their voices rising in a deafening roar. They surged forward, their faces contorted with hatred and malice. Some of them began to brandish weapons and torches, ready to exact their revenge on Gami, Lily, and the town's chief. The air was thick with tension, and it seemed like the situation was about to spiral out of control.

The flames from the burning crops and barn cast an eerie glow over the scene, illuminating the faces of the angry mob. The scent of smoke and burning wood filled the air, making it hard to breathe. The sound of crackling flames and breaking wood filled their ears, drowning out all other sounds. In the midst of all this chaos, Gami, Lily, and the town's chief stood frozen, their faces pale with fear. They knew that their fate was in the hands of the angry mob, and that they might not survive the night.

Gami felt a surge of energy flow through his body as he began to cast the spell "GodSend". The air around him began to shimmer and glow with a golden light. Lily and the chief looked on in amazement as the light spread to cover their bodies as well. It was as if they were surrounded by a protective aura, a shield of pure energy that would keep them safe from harm.

Castreim's voice boomed across the clearing as he ordered the villagers to toss their torches at the stacks of hay beneath Gami, Lily, and the chief's feet. The villagers watched with evil smiles as the flames consumed the hay, and the heat grew more intense by the second.

"Leivule's twisted thoughts echoed in his mind, 'If I can't have Lily, then I'll take her from everyone.' His laughter was like the cackle of a madman, as tears of pain and joy streamed down his face, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. His large, evil smirk was like a grotesque mask, hiding the true darkness beneath."

But unbeknownst to the mob, Gami had activated his GodSend spell, which protected them from the flames. Suddenly, the three of them were replaced with three clothed skeletons, and the villagers continued to burn the hay, unaware of what had happened. But Gami knew that they could not stay hidden forever.

With a deep breath, Gami focused his energy and teleported the three of them back to the chief's house. As they materialized in the safety of the house, Gami breathed a sigh of relief. He knew that they were safe for now, but he also knew that they could not hide here forever.

"Gami, how on Sapphirous did you manage to teleport us?" The Chief said, his voice shaking with awe and disbelief.

Gami grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "It's a really long story," he said, "but I promise I'll tell you all about it someday."

Lily let out a deep sigh of relief. "I'm just glad we're safe," she said, her voice trembling slightly.

But Gami's expression quickly turned serious. "We aren't quite out of trouble just yet," he said, his eyes scanning the room for any signs of danger. "We need to leave town immediately."

The Chief nodded, his face grim. "I have a caravan outside that we can take," he said, his voice low and urgent. "Give me a moment, and I'll fetch my wife and meet you two there."

As the Chief left the room, Gami turned to Lily and put a hand on her shoulder. "We need to be careful," he said, his voice low and urgent.

Lily nodded, her eyes wide with fear. "I know," she said. "But we have each other, and we'll get through this together."

With a deep breath, Gami led Lily out of the room and into the cool night air. They could hear the sounds of the villagers shouting and laughing in the distance, but Gami knew that they had to keep moving. As they made their way towards the caravan, Gami's mind raced with thoughts of what lay ahead. But he knew that he had to stay focused and keep his wits about him if they were going to make it out alive.

The Chief and his wife emerged from the house, their footsteps soft and swift as they made their way to the waiting caravan. Gami and Lily were already inside, huddled together in the back, their eyes darting nervously around the darkened interior.

As the Chief climbed into the driver's seat and readied the horses, Gami let out a deep sigh of relief. They were finally getting out of this place.

"We're going to drop you guys off at the Saylis River docks," the Chief said, his voice low and urgent. "We have a boat there that's just big enough for you two to make your escape and get far away from here. Me and Marsha will continue on the caravan elsewhere."

Gami nodded, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. "Sounds fine," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Thank you for your help, Chief."

Lily pressed her head against Gami's chest, her eyes closed as she tried to steady her breathing. Gami turned to her and kissed her on the forehead, holding her close until they both fell asleep.

Hours passed in a blur of darkness and silence, broken only by the occasional creaking of the caravan and the soft murmur of the Chief's voice. Gami and Lily slept fitfully, their dreams haunted by the memories of the village they had left behind.

Finally, as the first light of dawn began to creep over the horizon, they arrived at the Saylis River docks. The Chief pulled the caravan to a stop, his face grim with determination.

"This is it," he said, his voice heavy with emotion. "You two need to go now, before it's too late."

Gami nodded, his eyes fixed on the boat that lay waiting for them on the water. "We will," he said, his voice steady and resolute. "Thank you again, Chief. We won't forget what you did for us."

With that, Gami and Lily stepped out of the caravan and onto the docks, their hearts pounding with fear and anticipation. They knew that they were taking a risk, but they also knew that it was a risk worth taking if it meant they could be free.
