To ensure I was prepared for any situation, I allocated additional funds to have a mage on standby. Though her services would cost more when actually used, this way I was always ready. Jalen's updates showed that Goren had implemented similar security measures. Apart from that, Jalen was hitting a wall; people weren't talking. To help him out, I sent Mirathor with a bag containing a thousand Imperials, hoping to loosen some lips.

The next day was going as usual until just past noon. I had just received word that the enforcer who had died while defending Voltaire had been successfully revived. That's when Jalen burst in.

"Boss, urgent news!"

"What's going on, Jalen?"

"The moneylender from North Talric, you know him, right? He's been killed on his way to deliver money to us. Looks like an axe was involved; half his head is gone. I'm securing the money now."

"Darn it."

"Exactly, boss."
