Chapter 2: (ii) - The Uchihas
Age : 13
A knock was heard on the door of the house, which Hazuna went to answer. Two people from the Konoha Police Department stood before her.
"Is Uchiha Itachi home?", one of them asked.
Itachi : What is it you want?
Itachi asked, walking out from behind her.
"Uchiha Shisui was found dead yesterday."
Hazuna felt like someone had punched her in the stomach, she couldn't focus on the conversation.
Itachi : Are you insinuating that I had something to do with it?
He said in anger.
"We are going to have to arrest you."
Itachi sent a kunai flying into an Uchiha emblem on a nearby wall.
"Nee-san.", a familiar voice yelled from inside the house. Hazuna snapped back to reality to see Itachi.
Itachi apologized and went back into the house.
Itachi : Sasuke, go to your room.
He said.
Sasuke left, pouting.
Hazuna : I know you didn't kill him.
Hazuna said quietly, seating herself in a corner of the room.
Itachi : How do you know?
He asked looking at her.
She looked him dead in the eye as her sharingan formed a concentric pattern in black.
Hazuna : Because I did.
Itachi stared right back at her, his eyes also forming a similar, spiral like pattern.
Itachi : How is this possible….?
He whispered.
Hazuna : I saw you both.
She said in a low voice.
Hazuna : And I found him near death on the bottom of the cliff. He begged me to kill him.
Itachi : Oh, Hazuna… I am so sorry. I know how you felt about-
Hazuna : It's okay.

[ Later that evening ]
Hazuna woke up with a start from her nap to the sounds of people screaming and yelling.
Curious to see what the commotion was about, she walked into her living room to see Mikoto and Fugaku seated, with Itachi behind them. His blade was in his hand, and tears were falling from his eyes.
Mikoto : So you have chosen what side you are on.
Mikoto began.
Itachi : Mother…
Itachi started.
Mikoto : It's okay, we understand.
She said.
Fugaku : I am proud of you.
He said solemnly.
Confused by the context of the conversation, Hazuna didn't have time to react before Itachi had killed both of them in one swift blow.
Hazuna : ITACHI!
She yelled.
Itachi : Hazuna, get out of my way.
He said flatly.
She wanted to cry, and scream. The people who took her in and treated her like their own child were just murdered right before her eyes. And it was her best friend who killed them, their own son. But at some point you run out of tears, right?
Instead she went numb, and her mind raced with thoughts. What the hell must have led him to do this? Was he always like this? Was her life a complete lie? And then Shisui's words echoed through her head.
"𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘐𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪, 𝘯𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵."
Is this what he meant?
Hazuna : Why?
She finally asked him.
Itachi : I don't want to kill you.
Hazuna : Why? You killed your fucking parents. Why not me?
Itachi : I can't. It's just you that I can't kill, even if I wanted to.
He said.
Hazuna : I know you didn't want to do any of this.
Itachi : Oh I did, it was all an act.
He said firmly, without an ounce of emotion in his voice.
Hazuna : Itachi, who ordered you to do this?
Itachi : No one did.
He replied, his voice wavering a little bit.
Hazuna : You really think you can lie to me?
She calmly asked.
Itachi : I am leaving the leaf village.
Hazuna : As if I'd let you.
She said, still unable to move.
Itachi : You can't stop me.
He replied.
Hazuna : Try me.
She yelled, trapping him in a genjutsu.
He broke free, countering her attack with his own. The battle continued. Amidst the chaos, a man in a mask landed a blow to the back of her head, leaving her unconscious.
"Are you sure you don't want to kill her?", the masked man asked.
Itachi : I can't.
He replied.
He then went on to see his younger brother, who would remain forever changed after the events of that night.

[ The next morning, in Leaf hospital ]
Hazuna woke up groggily to see herself in an unknown location. Upon second glance, she found out it was the leaf village hospital. She couldn't remember how she got there, and then it hit her.
Just then a medic ninja walked in through the door.
"How are you feeling now..?", she asked, helping Hazuna sit up in bed.
Hazuna sprang out of bed, to her surprise.
"I really don't think-", she started but only to get cut off.
Hazuna : I have to go see lord Hokage, now.
She said before storming out of the building.
She ran to the Hokage's quarters to see him at the top of the building with another person that she couldn't quite place.
Hazuna : Lord Hokage!
She said, her voice ice cold as she stepped on the terrace.
He looked at her, his face covered in guilt and pity.
Hokage : Uchiha Hazuna….
He said slowly.
She now noticed the person standing beside him. He was one she had heard about a lot but never actually interacted with.
Hatake Kakashi, the copy ninja. She could tell by his silver hair. He looked at her, surprised.
Noticing the tension in the air, Kakashi quickly took his leave.
Third Hokage : I am sorry.. for your loss.
He said pityingly.
Hazuna : Spare me your pitying glance.
She said.
Hazuna : Did Itachi kill everyone of his own accord?
Third Hokage : I….
Hazuna : Or was he ordered to do so?
She asked bluntly.
Third Hokage : He did it on his own for unknown reasons.
He replied, cursing himself internally.
Hazuna : How can you expect me to believe you when you don't believe yourself, Hokage-sama?
Third Hokage : This is how he wants to be remembered, Hazuna. As the traitor who killed his clan and abandoned his village.
Hazuna : And you let him?
She said quietly, making his guilt increase.
Hazuna : One great Hokage you are.
Third Hokage : I don't know how to ease your pain, Hazuna. If there is anything I can do-
Hazuna : YOU CAN TELL ME WHO GAVE THE FUCKING ORDER!
She yelled, hatred consuming her.
Third Hokage : What order?
He said calmly.
Hazuna : You wouldn't give it.
She said sharply.
Hazuna : It was Danzo-sama, wasn't it?
Third Hokage : UCHIHA HAZUNA!
He suddenly raised his voice.
Third Hokage : Your friend and comrade Itachi is a rogue ninja now. And he committed a gruesome, terrible act for which he will pay. Wrap your head around it!
Hazuna : I 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 uncover the truth someday, mark my words.
She said, her sharingan awakening to form a spiral pattern.
He looked astonished at her eyes but said nothing, more crucial matters were at hand.
Third Hokage : Where are you going now? Leaving the village?
He asked making her scoff internally.
Hazuna : I am no traitor, I am a shinobi of the village hidden in the leaves.
She affirmed briskly.
Hazuna : And that will never change. I am a chunin and one of the last of my clan, rest assured.
Lord Hokage stood there, amazed at her integrity and the maturity she displayed, considering she was only 13. His need to punish Danzo for giving the order intensified.
She left the building, beginning to walk back to the leaf hospital when she bumped into someone. It was Kakashi from earlier.
Hazuna : I apologize.
She said indifferently.
Kakashi : No no, it was my fault.
He replied.
She nodded before leaving.

Age : 16
[ Present day ]
"Hazuna!", a voice made her turn around.
"Hokage sama has summoned you.", the ninja that had just walked in said.
Hazuna : But I just got back from a mission.
She groaned, getting up.
Walking into the office of Hiruzen Sarutobi, she bowed.
Hazuna : Yes, lord third?
She said.
Third Hokage : Good work on the B rank mission, Hazuna.
He said.
She nodded, giving a slight smile.
She had handled grief the best that anyone could expect her to, and had turned into a capable shinobi. She was both well known and determined.
Third Hokage : How is Sasuke doing?
He asked.
Hazuna : He is good. He is top of his class at the academy, clearly he inherited the Uchiha intelligence.
Third Hokage : Good, getting to why I called you here. I have a mission for you, I know you just got back.
Hazuna : It's okay.
She nodded.
Hazuna : What's the mission?
Third Hokage : Grave robbery.
He said.
Her eyes widened.
Hazuna : Why would someone rob graves?
Third Hokage : The motive is unknown, I need you to track down one of them which might be in the hidden mist village.
Hazuna : Is it a solo mission?
She asked.
She had been on a few easy solo missions so far and had succeeded in almost all.
Third Hokage : I am sending a jonin with you.
Hazuna : Who?
"You called, Hokage sama?", a voice from behind them interrupted.
Third Hokage : Yes, Kakashi. You are late.
Kakashi : Sorry, I got lost on the path of life.
