Carnes had tried to maintain a low profile, not wanting to attract any undue attention.
Little did he anticipate that Kakashi's powers of observation were unmatched.
Kakashi, astute and perceptive, detected irregularities based on subtle clues.
However, one should remember that even the best soldiers can sometimes misjudge a situation.
"Introduce yourself," Kakashi inquired.
"I'm Carnes, a friend of Jiraiya's, and I'm here to assist him," Carnes replied calmly.
"Furthermore, get this thing off me, you're bothering the friend next to me" he added.
"Jiraiya?" Kakashi's eyes flickered with doubt, clearly questioning the authenticity of Carnes' claim.
"Jiraiya?" Sakura, standing nearby, seemed to recall something upon hearing that name, her expression shifting.
"How can you prove it?" Kakashi persisted.
Carnes chuckled at this point. "Why should I prove anything to you?"
"Should I possess even a trace of hostility," he continued.
"You would be lying dead on the ground by now."
"So, I suggest you stop. I don't want to complicate matters for the friend who asked for my assistance."
To clarify, Carnes was referring to Nagato as his friend, not Jiraiya. The mention of Jiraiya was merely for casual banter.
As Carnes spoke, he slowly rested his hand on Eclipse, while Kakashi watched in silence, not making any sudden moves.
"Crack!"
A sharp sound of crushing metal resonated as Carnes crushed the kunai to fragments, displaying his formidable strength and power.
Kakashi's brow furrowed as he called out urgently, "Sakura!"
"Yes, Kakashi-sensei!"
With a flash, the two of them leaped out of the ramen restaurant.
Carnes rose to his feet and offered Teuchi a smile.
"Thank you for the meal."
Teuchi and Ayame appeared visibly shaken, their voices quivering in the wake of the unexpected events.
"No... you're welcome."
They both exchanged worried glances as Carnes departed with Demiurge.
Now, only Kakashi remained outside the restaurant door.
As for Sakura, she had probably gone off in search of reinforcements.
"Kakashi, let's not engage in unnecessary fights," Carnes advised.
"I'm sorry, but for the safety of the village, even if you're Jiraiya's friend, I must be cautious," Kakashi replied sternly.
Carnes let out a soft sigh. "I had hoped to handle this discreetly and leave this place quietly.
But it seems... I'll have to speak with Tsunade now."
"So, would you be so kind as to lead the way, or should I find it myself?" Carnes inquired.
In response to Carnes' question, Kakashi hesitated for a while, his mind racing as he considered Carnes' request. Finally, maintaining his vigilance, he said,
"Please follow me."
.....
"Friends of Jiraiya?"
"Carnes?"
"Demiurge?"
Inside the Hokage's office, Tsunade, seated behind a desk stacked high with papers, peeked out to get a better look at Carnes and Demiurge.
These two faces were unfamiliar to her. She couldn't recall Jiraiya ever mentioning such friends.
Outside Hokage's office, most of Konoha Village's elite personnel had gathered, ready to take immediate action if anything went awry.
Tsunade reclined in her chair and addressed her unexpected visitors,
"So... Jiraiya's friend, what brings you to Konoha?"
Carnes was uncertain about whether Jiraiya had been killed or not, by now by Pain.
After all, the system hadn't provided clear information about the timeline. He was waiting, hoping to get some news on Jiraiya.
"We're here to assist him with something," Carnes replied.
Tsunade, ever the inquisitive leader, pressed further, "What exactly is it? Assist him with what?"
Carnes simply responded.
Tsunade hesitated briefly.
Despite her doubts about Carnes and Demiurge's identities, the possibility of them truly being Jiraiya's friends nagged at her.
There lingered an underlying feeling within her– a thought that they might indeed be Jiraiya's long-lost comrades.
"However," Carnes spoke, breaking the silence that had enveloped the room.
"There's one thing you needn't fret about. My actions won't bring harm to Konoha."
"Very well, but I hope you stay true to your words and won't do something that jeopardize Konoha,"
Tsunade said, rising from her chair and stretching nonchalantly. Her demeanor suggested indifference.
Kakashi, slightly puzzled, wanted to say something.
But before that she responded, "It doesn't matter, Kakashi. It appears that Jiraiya had entrusted them with a mission.
You can summon Jiraiya and inquire further."
