Chapter 25: Tracing Traces (5)
The young man noticed them and looked over his shoulder.
This is the very same older brother Lawrence saw in the living room. The same older brother in the original Lawrence's memories. But the young man standing in front of him was akin to a stranger.
His crimson eyes glowed creepily under the faint light of the torches.
"Thank you for bringing him with you, William." Despite having the appearance of a young man, his voice sounds so mature. It was also pleasing to the ears as well.
William's face was instantly filled with dread.
What's going on? I was supposed to take the young master out of the mansion, take him away. It's too dangerous for him to stay a second longer inside the house.
The young master is a half human half vampire breed. And just recently, it was proven that unawakened half human half vampire's blood has the ability to kill vampires.
For years, the Master of the Manor has researched various ways to strengthen vampires. Because his kind was only small in numbers, he strived to keep the vampires' bloodline, making them live for a longer period of time. And to be superior to humans.
But as time went on, the bloodline was showing signs of weakening. There are only a few of them that exist now. And the Master of the Manor cannot risk exposing themselves to the public by blindly turning random people into vampires.
That's why he did the half breed project.
It was just an experiment to observe whether a half human half vampire child is stronger than pure blood.
But he was disappointed.
Many babies die within a month or two. There are only five who survive. William's daughter, Frederick's daughter, the two twins that he killed the other day and Lawrence.
The Master of the Manor wanted to give the youngest son a chance but he was too weak. His constitution was not fit to bear the vampire bloodline.
Not to mention there's no way to turn a half breed into a pure one. They will always be unawakened. They will live like a human and die like one.
Hence, despite Lawrence being one of his direct descendants, the Master of the Manor does not have any regrets in his heart about killing this child.
"Lawrence," he softly called out. "Come," he stretched his hand, the crimson glint in his eyes intensified. Sending a command to Lawrence's mind.
'Chain yourself in that table.'
Lawrence does not have any resistance. He was instantly hooked. His consciousness is still there but he can't control his limbs anymore.
Even so, Lawrence gritted his teeth and fought the mind control. He let Nala go and grabbed his right leg, pressing on the tendons and muscles, forbidding it to move another step.
Sharp intrusive pain suddenly surges through his nerves. As one of the special forces, Lawrence trained his body to endure intensive torture and other dangerous injuries to survive.
He knew which muscle to block to stop limb movement, and which nerve to strike to momentarily decapitate one limb.
He was about to immobilize himself when something white flashed past him. The next moment, the mind control that imprison Lawrence was gone.
He looked in the young man's direction and saw his white and fluffy cat, whose fur was soft and white as snow, ferociously attacking the young man.
The soft meat paw pads were now stained with red blood stain. Nala used his claws to viciously scratch the young man's face.
The young man was taken aback and wasn't able to fight back, letting the cat make a few more deep scratches to his face.
Lawrence was about to rush straight to the young man but someone grab his arm, then a sharp pain came from his arm.
It was William.
"What are you...?" Lawrence was puzzled.
William used the bloody knife on the table to puncture a wound on his arm, then the small vial that contained the elixir was shoved into his skin, and his blood dripped into the lid.
"Scram!" The young man was annoyed by the cat. Blood red mist suddenly took hold of Kevin's body.
His belly, paws, and neck were tied too tight he could not breathe. But he did not stop.
He stretch his neck and drilled his sharp canine tooth to the young man's finger, causing it to bleed.
"Scoundrel!" Kevin was suspended in the air and flung against the wall with great force.
His whole body slammed against hard cement and he crumpled to the ground, barely keeping his consciousness.
But he made it. He bought enough time for his smart protagonist and the old butler.
When Kevin bit off the young man's finger, Lawrence and William were already a few steps away.
Lawrence doesn't understand why the old butler told him "Force him to drink this vial" but he was the type to act first question later.
Lawrence used his weight to push the young man down, confine both his hands and grab his jaw.
"How dare you -!!" The young man bellowed but got cut off in between.
Lawrence used his full strength to punch him in the face, breaking his nose.
"How dare you do that to my cat!" Lawrence did not stop there and deliver another punch.
"Quick, the vial!" William urged. Lawrence moved quickly. He tore the young man's mouth open and emptied the small bottle.
The young man choked and coughed heavily. William covered his mouth to forced him to swallow.
These few seconds, the young man recovered from the shock and use his power. The blood red mist smack both Lawrence and William away.
Lawrence was flung towards the table and hit his head. William crumbled after hitting the wall next to Kevin.
"You morons!!!"
The young man was so angry black and blue veins started to appear and thicken in his temples.
"You - !" He stretched his hand and William was lifted off his feet.
"I showed you mercy." The young man's voice became hoarse. Multiple deep scratches dances on his cheek and his left eye but he did not pay them any attention.
"I let you and your wife live harmoniously in my home out of the goodness in my heart and this is how you repay me?!" He exploded.
