Chapter 6: New Home

Oswin had had a successful meeting with Denys Mallister, in command of Shadow Tower, and had traded all the goods made by Blake at a good price.

He even got honey, some fruit from south of the wall, and got Shadow Tower's blacksmiths to repair his old chainmail and his two swords along with a whetstone.

Oswin did not bring his axe, as it was an ancestral weapon and might arouse the greed of the Night's Watch.

The weapons he brought were taken from Essos slave traders, so he would not come into conflict with the Night's Watch.

As he was leaving, Denys Mallister approached him with a request.

Seeing his work with the furs, he wanted thirty pairs of gloves and thirty hats to protect his men from the cold, to which Oswin responded by asking for cattle or a mount.

Denys Mallister did not agree to give him a horse, but that he could get the cattle by taking Oswin's approval.

It was no good being too demanding with these guards, or the next time he came they might murder him and give him nothing.

He could only make a few concessions if he wanted their goods.

He left the Shadow Tower following the gorge river back to his tribe.

He needed to be on the lookout for any danger, it wouldn't be the first time he's been ambushed by some savage, so he went slow and the long way.

"Aaaauuuuuuuuuuuuh...."

Oswin's heart skipped a beat hearing the howl in the distance.

"Wolves!!!"

He quickly ran to the other side of the gorge to escape the wolves.

They could be heard nearby, so they would pick up his scent and come for him.

"Grrrrr!!!"

Oswin looked back as he ran seeing at least four wolves a few meters behind him.

"It's too late!!!"

He quickly threw down his backpack, stood against a tree, and pulled out his two swords to face the wolves.

If it was just these four he had a chance, they weren't giant wolves after all.

Wolves avoided men normally, but when they attacked, they were driven by a hunger for death, and would not desist until the end.

To Oswin's horror, behind the four wolves came six more, surrounding him from all sides.

Oswin cursed his fate, he was going to die against this pack of wolves.

Remembering his two children, he gritted his teeth and screamed.

"AAAAAAAAhhhhhhh!!!!"

"OUT DAMNED WOLVES!!!"

The wolves were backing up against his feints, but they didn't move too far away, looking for the best opportunity to charge at him.

Oswin knew he would die sooner or later, either through carelessness or when he got tired of waving his arms and screaming

One of the wolves managed to sneak up on his side to his pack, but as Oswin was about to push it away, it smelled the pack and howled, and ran in terror.

"What the hell..."

Oswin watched in surprise as the other wolves twitched their noses, and after hesitating for a few minutes, also ran away.

He stood for a few minutes watching them run, until he regained his senses and put away his swords and later picked up his pack.

"Maybe having a curse isn't so bad."

Looking at the backpack made by Blake, Oswin put it on his back and continued on his way back to the village.

********************************************

"It's Oswin."

"Yes, he's still alive."

Oswin reached the tribe and listened to the whispers around him.

He said nothing.

Some gossip had been spread by the women who escaped from his home.

And now everyone believed that he would die soon because of his cursed son.

"OSWIN WHEN WILL YOU TAKE THE DEMON OUT OF THE TRIBE!"

Oswin stopped as he heard the cry of a savage.

He turned around until he came in front of a tall, stout man, bald, but with a thick black beard.

"Do you have something to say to me Osgar?"

Oswin came face to face with the man, now identified as Osgar.

Osgar, though tall, had to look up at Oswin, he took one look at his leather robes, which looked thin and tight, at his new chainmail and helmet, and fear enveloped his eyes.

"I said, do you have something to say to me Osgar!"

Oswin spoke again approaching Osgar another step closer.

When Osgar gathered enough courage and raised a hand to strike Oswin, he received a punch in the face, so hard, it broke several of his teeth.

Oswin kept punching Osgar until he knocked him down, and when he was on the ground, he stomped on his head bursting it into pieces.

"DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY!"

Oswin looked around with a fierce look on his face.

"DOES ANYONE ELSE WANT TO TAKE THEIR CHANCE?!"

All the tribesmen looked silently at Oswin, but no one said anything.

Oswin kicked Osgar's corpse and continued on his way to his hut.

The atmosphere was getting worse, and he needed to take care of this problem or he and his The atmosphere was getting worse, and he needed to take care of this problem or he and his children would be killed by everyone in the tribe.

would be killed by everyone in the tribe.

When he reached the hill where his hut was, Oswin from afar noticed a figure as pale as a ghost hitting a log with a huge axe.

Seeing his son, swinging an axe much bigger than he was, he understood why everyone in the tribe was so frightened.

As he approached, he saw his daughter playing in front of the hut, decked out in furs, gloves, shoes and a fur hat, completely white, so much so, that it could be mistaken for snow if you didn't pay attention.

His son Blake had prepared a plot of land, where, cutting logs, he seemed to be making another hut.

Oswin nodded to the construction of the cabin, after his son Blake had talked to him about making the barn and told him how to keep it from collapsing in the first storm, he was very pleased with its construction.

The animals inside were kept warm, and he also planned to build one for himself.

It seemed that his son Blake, always one step ahead, had already started construction, and it looked bigger than the last one.

Oswin walked to the hut so as not to interrupt Blake's work, where he left all his equipment, the goods in his backpack, his weapons and took a nap.

When he awoke, Blake would surely have his food and a glass of goat's milk ready.

Then they could talk about the construction of the hut, the things he brought back from his trip, and the Shadow Tower order.
