Chapter 1: Potential

There once was a young man.

A young man who was born as any other, but grew like very few.

Some called him a genius. A wunderkind. A monster.

Because to be frank, there was no way that that young man could be natural...

However, they would be wrong.

There was nothing unnatural about the young man and absolutely nothing out of the ordinary from any other human being.

In truth, the only thing that made the young man special in any way whatsoever, was his mind capable of absorbing information and a body that seemed to respond to his will that could hold up the sky.

No matter the challenge faced or goal out of reach, he never, for even a moment, believed that he could not accomplish it.

That might be why, as he stand there dying, he could not help but wonder how it came to this.

One moment he was on a mission to retrieve information from (insert asshole's name here), who had stolen the plans for some weapon, that he was hired to retrieve. And the next, immediately after completing his mission and scrubbing any trace of his involvement, he felt his body, which once moved in sync with his will, begin to fall forward.

Time seemed to have come to a crawl as the pavement of the sidewalk drew nearer, and blood could be seen splashing on the pavement where his head would soon find its resting place.

It did not take long for his common sense to kick in and supply the answer to his predicament.

'Sniper', was the only thought that somehow went through his mind that definitely had a hole going through it.

How he was still thinking clearly, he had no idea. Science told him that his cognitive functioning should have ceased as soon as he acquired the sporty hole that decorated the front and back of his head.

'Instead of my life flashing before my eyes, instead time has slowed and I am just falling slowly. It's truly too bad. At the very least, it would have been nice if I could have taken my revenge on whoever got me in the end. I thought that I had covered my tracks expertly. Everything I know, everything I am, is self-taught or taught by none who still live. My name was removed when I began my mercenary work and I was sure no one was capable of tracking my steps after I completed a job. Oh well, nothing is perfect. Not even me. It's just too bad that I could not finish that fan-fic that I started. One of the most annoying things is to start reading a dope ass fic, just to have it get discontinued and no reason is given. Sorry readers, but perhaps someone else will put out a dope vampire diaries fic, and give Jeremy the bad ass life he earned, instead of whatever crap he ended up with. Truthfully, I stopped watching somewhere after the originals left town, and only caught bits and pieces of information through fan-fics, the few seasons of the originals I watched, and the one season of legacies I checked out. While I would have kept watching, it just became a bit hard to watch vampires continually get snuck up on and have their necks snapped or hearts stacked by slow moving ass humans. IT MADE NO SENSE. They have enhanced everything and yet they were constantly getting bested by humans and other clearly weaker individuals. Like when the originals would get stacked by one of the Salvatores. IT MADE NO SENSE. But, I digress. Getting back to the point. It's just too ba...'

*Gasp* The sound of an individual sucking in a lung full of air could be heard in the dense forest that was bathed in the subtle light of an overcast sky, as the individual sat up like he was struck by a bolt of lightening.

He sat there, his breaths heavy and eyes wide and searching, as if he had no idea where he was, how he was...which was true.

'Where the fuck am I?' He thought to himself, as he looked around, taking in the trees, trees, and more trees that took up his sight.

'Calm down,' he told himself. 'Calm the fuck down!' He told himself once more, only this time with more force, since it seemed as though his body would not listen.

He sat there, for what he would call far far too long, going through a breathing exercise that he used in the beginning of his training that his body once treated as instinct after so much time of using it had passed. Only now, it was not working.

'What the hell is wrong with me?' He asked himself, as he stopped breathing for a moment, and then took one very very deep breath in and held it, allowing his mind to run freely.

And then, he saw it.

The slow fall to the pavement. The incredibly long-winded thoughts that went through his mind. And then, the darkness.

After that, nothing....

Until there was.

Suddenly, memories began to pour in.

He saw a boy born, grow to be a moody little shit, and then meet up with a hot junky a week after his parents died in a car crash and his "adoptive" sister was released from the hospital depressed, and overdosed on them sweet sweet drugs by mistake.

A truly pitiful end to a truly lackluster life, from an individual with far too much untapped potential.

The young man continued to sit there. Cursing his circumstances and wondering what would have come of him had he been working on a fan-fic that featured a different protagonist.

For you see, while he did believe that Jeremy deserved better, the same could also be said to be true for so so so so so many other individuals in this weak ass town alone. Individuals that he could definitely grind to heights that Jeremy's pure human, dormant hunter self could probably never reach, without a whole bunch of luck...which is what he was going to use in his fic...the problem is, he had yet to begin, so he had yet to do the research required to mapped out the poor boy's journey to power...

Now, he was that boy, without the knowledge besides what he had seen or read, which had plenty of blanks in his knowledge, and a body that was in an incredibly weak state, definitely in need of a visit to the hospital...or a nutritionist...or..to a vampire.

'Their blood heals the body,' he thought to himself. 'Not only can I use it to heal myself, but if I want to push myself to the physical peak before acquiring that hunter's mark, then healing torn muscles with some of that elixir of life that flows through their veins is definitely a must-have item. Though, in truth, getting the hunter's mark definitely has its drawbacks from what I read...the only question was, how accurate was the fic that depicted the mark as making the bearer a murder-hobo for vamps? Research was required. Both on magic and that mark. I refuse to have my most powerful weapon, my mind, compromised.'

'Speaking of my mind, despite being in a new body, I can find no difference in capability...it might even be a little quicker...which is strange considering how weak this body and thus mind is in its current state. Well, enough stalling. Maximum eff..ugh'.

While it seemed that he had spent far far too long sitting on his ass in the middle of the forest where he partied with Vicki and a few other junkies the night before, in truth it had only been a couple of minutes. A couple of minutes that allowed him to not only get his breathing under control, but also to settle his mind and body from its heightened state. Now, he was ready to move...which he did, only with far more effort than he thought it would take.

"Okay." He said, once he got settled onto his feet.

He looked himself over. Checking his body that was screaming for a shower and a hot meal, that was covered in dirt.

"Those bitches left me here." He said, looking around at the patches of grass, cups, and other assorted nonsense that showed signs of a fun time had. "What time is it?" He wondered. He knew it had to be later in the day, otherwise how could he be the only one there. No way he was the only one to pass out after the night before...'Or did the boy die, was discovered, and every one else ran away?' He wondered.

"No point thinking on such matters at the moment. There will be time for questions later. For now, I need to get back. Get myself squared and refreshed. And check on this family that I seem to now have feelings for. I don't mind the memories, but the feelings that came with them might be a hassle." He said, as he began his journey through the forest. Talking to himself in order to keep his mind occupied, and off the way that his body was protesting his actions.

He stopped for a moment as he came upon a medium sized branch that ended in a point.

He clenched his jaw and bent forward, placing half of the branch under his shoe and breaking off most of its length. With that done, he stuffed the shoddy stack barely longer than his had hand up his sleeve, and continued on his way.

"One can never be too prepared." He said, with a small smile playing on his lips.

He could feel that he was going to have a lot of fun in this world.
