Ariel walked through the sparsely crowded corridors of the Great British Museum. He was in what was to be an exhibition of images, photos, and memorabilia commemorating all the brave men and women who gave their lives to protect the new British generation during World War II.
Ariel was there to inspect all that would be displayed to the public as a favor from one of the boys who had been his classmate at Xavier's Orphan Institute. The boy in question had become the director of this exhibit and it would be the first of his career as a historian and everything had to be perfect.
As they went along Ariel advised the staff on how they should dress on the day of the presentation as well as some curious facts about what had happened during the war that they could explain.
Once he finished Ariel sat down on a bench in front of a large photo. In it were 9 people dressed in ragged military clothes, dirty, full of presumably blood stains, and all had a smile on their faces.
Ariel felt a wave of nostalgia when he saw the photo, one of those nine who was barely identifiable as a man was being hugged sweetly by a girl who looked like a boy to his entertainment.
The photo was of him and a girl hugging him. It was after operation marketgarden which turned out to be a real fiasco as they were unable to take one of the most important bridges in the Netherlands or take over the country causing massive losses.
The group in this photo was one of the few that had managed to escape from the Nazis, as well as he was responsible for freeing some 2,000 of his own who had managed to barely escape from the area thanks to the support of the locals and the ability to hide in plain sight.
The girl next to Ariel was a British paratrooper. A Muggle-born who upon seeing the plight of her country decided to support the war effort.
As Ariel reminisced about his days in the past a very old-looking man sat down next to him and stared at the same photo.
- "You know boy. I was there." - The man's words caught Ariel's attention. - "It was September 20, 1944, at that time I was working as a researcher and my wife was accompanying me. On one of my trips, I helped a group of our people to hide inside a well when the Nazis were looking for them among the buildings."
Ariel recalled the report from one of the corporals about how they had hidden inside a well with 3 companions and escaped the German's gaze. Ariel wanted to know what happened and stayed half an hour longer with the man who was telling him about his experience.
When a woman appeared to take him away Ariel asked for his name and he answered. - "I am Nicolas Flamel."
Ariel smiled. - "Thank you for telling me your story, old Flamel. I am Ariel Flak, I hope to see you again."
Nicolas nodded and walked away with a wave from the boy.
Once they reached a more crowded area, Nicolas's wife spoke up. - "He was a nice boy. I didn't know you liked to tell stories to children, honey."
Nicolas smiled and replied. - "Neither did I, but when I saw him I thought I saw an old acquaintance."
The memory of a man dressed as a military man whose face he did not remember crossed his mind. This one was young if he remembered his voice well he had compared him to the boy from a short time ago and a smile appeared again on his face.
- "I just felt like hanging out with a nice guy."
