Chapter 3: Mina Carolina (2)

???'s POV

The spirit of Ymir brought me back to the place where I'd been after my first death. There, the scenery shows how happy the Eldians and Marleyans were after the Rumbling incident.

"So, peace has arrived?" I asked her, noticing Captain Levi in a wheelchair from a distance.

Ymir hesitated as I began to dread that something would happen in this world's future.

And I was right.

Ymir showed me a huge tree, the very tree that I had stumbled upon in my first life.

"The devil is as cruel as ever," Ymir whispered as something within my chest tightened. "Every world that I foresee has already been doomed by destiny. Eren Yeager may have created peace for a few years, but what happens after it… is much more terrifying than the past."

Then, all of a sudden, there was chaos. Humans were running away from the Titans, and no one was safe. Not under the ground or even at the highest building that a man could ever create. The crops are all burned, and the ocean that once looked so pure and clean has become reddish.

It turned into a pool of blood that contained poison and malice.

"I… just wanted someone to set me free," Ymir admitted, eventually blurring the scene where almost every corner has blood sprayed around it. "But this… even I have a conscience, young one. The devil is enjoying this."

She paused and waited for my reaction. But deep down, I too am a mess.

"I just saw my mother killing my father a few minutes ago," I growled. "If you do have a conscience, then at least allow me some time to think."

"Fair enough."

With one flick of her wrist, there I was, lying down on a bed. I slowly pulled myself upwards and noticed from the mirror located at the corner of the room that I had become 'Mina' once more.

"You're awake!" It took me a while to notice that my friend, Jean, was sitting on the chair beside my bed. "You scared the life out of me, Mina!"

I, once again, apologized. It made me recall the first time I was thrown into this world, and the first thing I did was apologize to my father.

It was a memory that stirred my insides, prompting the soldier beside me to ask what was wrong. After all, no one can retain a calm expression after seeing that kind of future, right?
