Chapter 4: Short Story Restart
Author Note: I ended up taking this and making it into a short story with much shorter chapters on another platform so I have gotten quite a few chapters done that I plan on posting here.
I did not know whether to delete what was posted earlier or not so I just ended up keeping it while making this chapter as being an update and also a place where I have put in the already covered and shortened chapters.
I did not have time to read through the manga to see the personality displayed there so some manga readers may not completely like how I may write her character as sometimes since I mainly followed the anime.
It probably would not make a huge difference to the story but I know how some tend to be loyal to the manga over other adaptions.

Chapter 1:
Tanya Degurechaff, originally a salaryman who was murdered in 2013 was reborn as a girl living in an alternate version of Europe during the late Interwar period.
She entered the Empire's mages troops at the young age of nine and was promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant.
Her talents, strategies, efficiency, and ruthlessness made her a useful asset for the Empire and made her a great threat on the battlefield to those who opposed the Empire.
Throughout every war that the Empire encountered, Tanya was usually at the very center of each major development but so was the influence that 'Being X' had brought to the world.
Tanya refused to be converted and 'Being X' never gave up trying to push her into dire circumstances so that she would give in to the power of god.
The Empire expanded rapidly and Tanya became feared by many outside of the Empire and within it. Faith in god expanded and so did the amount of enemies Tanya would gain.
'Being X' looked down on the world as everything was slowly coming to an end after Tanya had miraculously survived through the many years of combat and had become an adult.
'Being X' was pleased with some results but their main target still had no faith in them. Tanya was going over documents in her office that she had been assigned after finally gaining a suitable position in the Empire.
It was her reward that she was happy with since there would no longer be a need to risk her life anymore.
She headed out toward her regular place to eat and drink but was startled by many who snuck up on her.
They had a fanatical golden glow in their eyes and they moved as quickly as possible to get within range of her and their magic became increasingly unstable.
Tanya put up her magic shield to protect herself in a hurry but it was worn down by the crazed people who exploded upon getting close.
'Being X' had granted more than one person his help this time. They all gathered to kill the devil and they would do it at the cost of their lives.

Chapter 2:
Her shield broke and the remaining people grabbed onto her before blowing up.
'Being X' had suddenly made a move and captured the soul of Tanya. 'This soul cannot be allowed to get away so easily and it can still be of help to me.'
Even after winning through the use of such tactics, 'Being X' had still not been satisfied with the way things ended and they could no longer keep their promise to not let Tanya reincarnate again.
'Being X' chose from many worlds available then saw one that looked very dangerous, especially for females. 'Being X' had thought to themself. 'This world should be more difficult, especially for those of a female gender but keeping the memories of this round will only make things much easier so they need to be removed.'
Sometime later in a war-torn kingdom that was named the Vodka Kingdom which was a part of a region called the Grand Line, a blonde baby girl with blue eyes was born but her father had died in the war and her mother died in childbirth so she was raised in an orphanage.
Meanwhile, a certain god named 'Being X' was looking into the world and took an interest in the strange energies and other things that were involved in it.
During the time that the girl was growing up, 'Being X' was playing around with the energies and was guiding the things that were called Devil Fruits towards potential candidates that could be useful pawns.
'The influence of faith here is not very good. It will be difficult to influence anyone here but there should be others at the bottom that have a hatred or lack of faith towards the current ruling and faith system of this world.'
'Being X' decided to target those who were in the minority position that may have suffered at the hands of the ruling powers of the world that either wished for revenge or were in too desperate a situation that they would take the help of an unknown entity.
'Being X' saw some potential in piracy that was active in the world too. The rivalry and conflict between a human and a god was happening yet again in another world.

Chapter 3:
Outside of a rundown building, several children were playing among themselves while other people looked at them with disdain and pity as they passed by.
The available space for the children to play was very small just like the building they were being raised in was not suited to their larger numbers.
The overall facilities and resources allocated towards the children and those who raised them were horrifyingly poor.
Each of the children was dirty and smelly with old and damaged clothes.
Two small boys were fighting over a moldy and hard piece of bread.
It was a normal sight for people to witness it but most people just ignored it.
Meanwhile, a small child further away was coldly looking towards them as she was observing the state of how her life would continue to be unless she found another way to live.
The place where she had grown up was an orphanage in the Vodka Kingdom.
It was an allied island to the World Government that was the main ruling force in the world while there existed other groups that were a part of more lawless factions.
Vodka Kingdom had been allied with the World Government for quite a long time but the islands standing among those allied islands were quite small.
They were able to broker a deal in the past but their deal had fallen through once the greatest combatant from their kingdom named Kaido had not gone along with the arrangement.
The deal had fallen through due to Kaido not joining the Marines and Vodka Kingdom had to suffer due to that and had less help from their allies outside.
Kaido then went on to become an Emperor of the New World which was known as a big enough position that not many in the world could attain.
Due to his status as a pirate and his not sticking with the Marines as the deal had been planned out, it had reflected even more poorly on the Vodka Kingdom.
Whatever happened inside of their kingdom was left to them to deal with without any support and Tanya was one among many children born parentless due to such poor circumstances and losing their parents to war.

Chapter 4:
The short messy blonde-haired and blue-eyed girl looked around four years old but her body was malnourished and she was older than she looked.
There was an ahoge on top of her messy blonde hair and she was dressed in tattered pieces of clothing that were likely handed down from other children that had been through many repairs.
Her name was Tanya and she had not been given a surname due to her status as an orphan and her low position within the kingdom did not earn her the right to have a family name.
She possessed the memories of her life as a salaryman and did not know that her previous memories as the Demon of Rhine and her efforts to raise the Empire to power had been wiped away by 'Being X' Tanya was cold and calculating enough to see others as objects that could be used to her advantage so that she could raise her value in the eyes of others.
If she was able to live a comfortable and stable life to enjoy her freedom then she would gladly take a given opportunity and would make enough efforts to rise in the ranks so that she could live that comfortable life.
Tanya continued to watch on as a child stood above the other child who was beaten up on the ground, the winner had eaten the moldy and hard bread before leaving. 'I have seen and heard enough already.
Now I just have to wait for what is coming then I should be able to rise the ranks to enjoy a more comfortable life without having to worry about where my next meal will come from.'
A quick glare was sent towards the heavens above before she had gone back into the orphanage.
There had been some whispers about an opportunity that would be given to those willing to fight for it.
It was a program that had spread across the whole kingdom and it was an opportunity that Tanya would take.
Not many chances were in the Vodka Kingdom so another chance would not come again.
Until then, Tanya had gone back to her room to exercise her body and to prepare for the days ahead.
The day for recruitment was coming up very soon and her days would be busy from then on.

Chapter 5:
A little time had passed before people arrived dressed in clothing that allowed them to be recognized as part of a military or noble guard profession.
They had a strong and alert appearance as they walked into the orphanage and talked to the person in charge of the children. "Yes, this has been signed by the king himself."
"Oh.. but to have children do that.." They continued to discuss things related to the situation that was unfolding and the soldier spoke up again. "This is all for the sake of Vodka and I am certain that its citizens will be willing to contribute to its prosperity.
We need to make some sacrifices but it is for the greater good and the children of this country have little opportunities to survive. If they take this path then there is some hope for them. Can you please discuss it with them first?"
Once the orphanage head listened, he let out a sigh. 'It is true that most of them will die of starvation or will die in some street alley one day. Is this the only option available though?'
He was feeling helpless but still went along with what he was told as the children were all gathered. There was no choice but to comply since it was already approved by the king.
The orphanage would gain a little more support so it would be put forward to the remaining children so it was another reason why he could not turn down such an order.
Many children were gathered and Tanya was among them. A black-haired man with glasses spoke. "The king has decreed that our great kingdom needs extra support and needs you. If you come forward, you will no longer be a powerless child and will be an honorable soldier of the kingdom."
He spoke in a sterner tone. "I would like to say that you all do not have to do but a minimum quota for each orphanage must be met. So who will volunteer among you?"
It was enough to understand that they wanted those who were willing but they would take those unwilling by force if the quota was not met. Without waiting for anyone else, Tanya raised her hand. "I will join!"
