Chapter 231: Unknown

"Miss Makima still hasn't returned?!" Aki's inquiry was met with Himeno shaking her head.

She had been through this many times in the past week. Even if she asked for information around the workplace because Aki was persistent, she could not find a single thing about Makima's sudden absence.

"Maybe she is doing something important? Come to think of it, hasn't she always been this way?" Himeno wasn't lying about that, Makima would go away for important meetings or tasks. But this wasn't enough to convince Aki.

"No, I don't think Miss Makima has had such an unannounced absence…" As much as she wanted to, Himeno could not deny it.

Whenever Makima was absent from the Tokyo Branch, there was always a suitable explanation in place. But this time, she just vanished for a whole week after the welcome party. And no one knew where she was, or what she was doing.

'Maybe that jerk knows. But I don't have his contact to ask… Not that I want to.' Himeno thought Adam, who was one of the reasons she was going all out right now.

After a whole week of hard work and planning, she finally made the best possible plan to reach her goal.

This is why, she wanted to drive the topic away from this and start her Super-Secret plan 'Take Aki Back'. Or at least she was trying to as her target was more focused on the people who weren't there.

"Could it be that this Adam did something to her?" The name jolted her back to reality.

"C'mon, there's no way…" Himeno thought that Aki was joking. But his serious eyes made her swallow the words. She knew that Adam wouldn't do that, not because she trusted him, but because of the connection Makima and he had.

The two liked each other and it was obvious from the way Adam spoke, they were about to step up their relationship. So, it could be that he had a hand in Makima's sudden disappearance, just not in the way Aki thought of it.

'I feel like they feel very similar in a way.' Himeno's eyes narrowed trying to recall Adam's mannerisms from that day. But leaving her speculation aside she wished the two the best because then Makima wouldn't have time to rope in Aki.

And this line of thinking was the crux of the problem.

"You think it is possible too, right? I didn't get a good feeling about him. There is no history about him in the field, it could be that he is an assassin sent to aim for Miss Makima… he just feels fishy." Aki's words might make sense but for anyone other than Himeno.

Why he would say something like this without even interacting with the man in question was beyond her. She could feel that there was something deeper that troubled him, because the Aki she knew would never behave this way.

'It is a landmine I should avoid.' She kept her lips sealed even if she knew the reason for this sudden change.

And feeling the awkward silence Aki stopped speaking for a while. Himeno sat there glancing at him occasionally in search of a moment to clear the air. After all, this lunch hadn't turned out quite like she imagined.

She invited him, purposely sending Denji and Power on a patrol even rigging the game of sticks, all so she could invite him to the new romance movie, and if that was rejected she'd invite him to drink at her place like usual. But he spoke up before her, it was like he realized how ridiculous his behavior was, and that was true.

"Himeno… he took you home after the drinking party, right?" This question shocked Himeno. She didn't notice him watching them leave. And the way this question was asked made her mind run wild.

'Is he worried that Adam did something to me?' She was not sure whether to be happy at the fact that he cared for her, or to ask why has he started to borrow questionable DVDs (P*rn) from the video rental shop. In the end, she chose the third option.

"Nothing, he just sent me into the house and after we talked a little he left." Himeno made sure to stress that nothing happened between them, and Aki understood it. But this turned out to be very different from what she expected.

"I see, so nothing happened…" He was disappointed and nothing could hide it from Himeno, not even her passive filter that had made Aki appear normal till now.

Rather than being relieved that nothing happened, he seemed unhappy that nothing had gone on between Himeno and Adam. Paired with him trying to make Adam an assassin, it was clear that he was just looking for a reason to create a rift between Makima and Adam.

'Why…?' Himeno stared at Aki, trying to make heads and tails of the situation. Then she finally noticed his appearance, crumpled coat, dark circles as if he hadn't slept for days, and he had lost weight on top of that. The current Aki was just a shadow of what she knew, whether that be his personality or his actions.

And the reason for this change was clear to her. The time when they first noticed the lovebites on Makima's neck flashed through her mind, she recalled his expression. Then the one he had at the drinking party, and his current actions. She had looked past it till now hoping that the wind would blow it away, but he could not handle that Makima had a lover, and it wasn't him.

"I'll go back now, tell me if you find anything about Miss Makima." With that, Aki left Himeno in the restaurant all alone. But she did not stop him or run after him, there was too much on her mind and honestly, it was nothing good.

Her plan had failed before it even started. The guy she was trying to go after was so obsessed with another woman, that he couldn't even see her any longer. But she was long used to this, and she knew how to deal with it.

'Guess I'll go drink today.' She thought, eating her curry even though her appetite was killed. But she wouldn't be alone for long, the sound of the heels against the tiles rang out. And it came to a stop right next to her.

"Would you mind if I sit with you?" Her body flinched as the soothing voice entered her ears. It belonged to someone she knew, someone who was the biggest problem in her love life. Turning to her left Himeno saw Makima in her usual attire. No, the black overcoat she had on was a few sizes too big for her.

She had returned after a full week looking like nothing happened, where did she go? No one else but she knows. And what she was thinking behind that unreadable smile? No one knows. And why did she come to see her the moment she came back? That too was not known by anyone but herself.

"Would you like to listen to a proposal of mine, Himeno?" The red in Makima's eyes swirled enchantingly.

And that was the start of the event that ultimately sealed the fate of the world and everyone inside it.

Chapter 232: The Almighty?

There are times when one unexpectedly gains more than what they set out to achieve. It isn't something that happens often depending on the person in question, but when it happens it makes them happier than they can imagine.

Of course, some people take it for granted when they get something extra, but the ones who have been through tough times wouldn't.

"That was something, wasn't it?" Adam stared at the ceiling.

He had been in a daze since he returned having no idea how much time had passed. Sitting on the sofa with a wide smile as his feet tapped a happy tune on the floor. Things have worked out with Makima, a lot more than he had hoped for.

He still couldn't wrap his head around it but he accepted the progress. After all, conscious or not, it was the result of his actions. If he hadn't taken the initiative to visit her, maybe things wouldn't have reached this point. It showed him how important it was for him to actively chase his dream rather than sitting still, waiting for the proper moment. But now he knew that he had to make the moment.

'I should've done that from the beginning… well… I guess those lessons played an important part too.' As wise men said, failure is the mother of learning. So, his previous mistakes have now become lessons. They taught him what to not do, and there was still much to learn.

So far things have worked out well. He was able to clear things with Rias and Akeno getting their approval to chase his Harem. His wish to stay truthful to them and himself had paid off.

And this truthfulness helped him get close to Makima. Someone who did not understand the concept of love before, but now she was trying to understand it. His words from before and her questions in his absence allowed the conditions to line up.

The game between them wasn't a cat-mouse game by any means. They were two cats chasing one another, and now one of them decided to stop the chase. Even then, this was not the end. He still had many loose ends to tie up.

'I have to visit Ai… and Miyako… what will I say to her?' Adam sunk into the soft couch, trying to think of what he should do so that it worked out for them. After all, he did not want to lose the connections he had made with them, especially after knowing what the two did.

And even after thinking for hours, he made no progress on Miyako. He knew what to do with Ai to an extent, but thinking about how to approach her gave him a splitting headache. As if this wasn't enough there were some more strong-headed women in his life, and those will be much bigger problems when he reaches them.

Getting his harem was tough, but he expected it to be as such.

"It's time to put the same mentality—when I was training to achieve Godhood—into chasing after them, if one try doesn't work I'll try another hundred times, if that doesn't work I'll try a thousand times. I won't stop till they agree." Unbeknownst to him, Adam started to sound like Makima. He even had her unnatural fervor when it came to chasing someone.

But he was far worse than Makima could ever be, not in the way that he would do anything needed to achieve his means with women. The problem was that once he set his goal, no matter what happens, he will keep trying till he succeeds.

He may stumble along the way and even doubt himself, but he will once again run towards his goal with twice the effort when he stabilizes himself. That is how he—a normal human with no extraordinary qualities—had become a God of extraordinary fields which once in a millennium Geniuses could only dream about. This is how he has been for as long as he can remember.

'So, you all better prepare. I am not stopping after just one refusal.' He smirked confidently but they stopped.

"Why do I sound like a creep?" As interesting as that topic was, he wasn't given time to explore it.

—Ring~!!

His ears stood up as the melodious tune rang through the room, his gaze landed on the door that was pushed open. A client arrived at the shop, and Adam was ready to provide her with the best treatment he could.

But as soon as he saw the woman with golden locks and pointy ears, he tried to focus on her beautifully sculpted face rather than her voluptuous body that could give Rias a serious run for her money.

And instead of asking her whether she'd prefer some sweet or spicy snacks along with her tea. He asked her another question, a very important question in his mind.

"Would you like some clothes?"

He tried not to look at the scarcely clothed body of the blonde elf standing before him. Even then his eyes already captured her entire figure without him even trying. Sometimes it wasn't good to have such acute senses.

'The ceiling sure is nice. Maybe I'll push it higher and add a chandelier? Maybe two?' Adam had no idea why she would be dressed in straps of white cloth that barely covered her breasts and groin—a towel would've done a better job than this dress—and the worst part of that she had nothing underneath.

But standing there, the woman did not answer his question. She went down on her knees, the forehead which was decorated by a delicate golden band was now rubbing against the plush carpet. It was like she was paying her respect to God, but in a completely different way than what would be expected from her appearance.

"Oh Almighty, please show mercy to my people and save them… I beg you." She pleaded with a voice on the verge of breaking, but there was a tinge of happiness in there upon finding him.

Adam was put on the spot all of a sudden. He didn't know what was happening and why this woman suddenly did this, the only way to find out was to ask her as making guesses will not help. How she addressed him and her actions would come later, he needed information right now to shift the subject.

He approached her and got down on one knee. Ignoring her fair back and the peachy behind, he spoke up to get her attention.

"Please stand up, this shop is made to fulfill wishes. So, I will do everything I can to help you." From the words so far, it was clear that she was in deep trouble. But that wasn't a problem, he could solve her problems, but first, he needed her to sit down on the couch.

And somehow he had gotten her to stand up and walk towards the sofa.

"Is it alright to sit on the same level as the Almighty?" But this proved to be slightly difficult. The woman's face was devoid of emotion, unlike her voice which was laced with concern, anxiety, and many other things.

"I mean, why are you calling me Almighty?" Adam didn't know what this was about.

He had never been addressed as such before, and realizing it the woman's eyes widened slightly. It was like she found it ridiculous that no one did that, but it was also disrespectful towards him.

"It is because you are a True God. I apologize for not knowing of your grace till now." Bowing her head low, her gemlike green eyes were laced with deep regret for the transgression.

She did not have to do this as someone who was known throughout her world as the Reincarnation of the Goddess. But she had to do that, as the one in front of her was the real one.

Adam did not have much to say to her. She was correct about him being a god and the respect she had for him was also pure. Even then he wasn't willing to continue this topic. Right now, he was nothing more than a shop owner granting wishes.

"Well… sit down for now and have some tea. Tell me if you want something else that suits your taste." Adam said pointing at the table full of treats. He wanted her to calm down and not take him seriously, as that was the best way to deal with the situation.

"I would be blessed to have anything you give me." And she was extremely courteous toward him, her eyes still full of devotion which was sharply rising by the second. But she still sat down as he asked her to and with slightly shaking hands lifted a tea cup.

'I could've never guessed that I would meet the Almighty, in the flesh.' She was happy to know that she was able to connect with him, but the situation was far from ideal and she needed help. Thankfully, Adam was waiting for her to get into the topic.

"So, tell me your name and a little more about your problem?"
