Chapter 575: Overinterpretation in Reading Comprehension

"Congratulations, Jack! I heard you've earned the qualification to travel on your own."

"How did you know?"

On his way, Jack met Maria. Kaido and Arceus informed him of the news just a few minutes ago, so he was curious about where Maria got her information.

"Didn't you check Rotom? It's already been announced there."

"No, my Rotom went out to play, so I didn't receive any message notification."

Rotoms are essentially electronic ghosts; the appliances they inhabit are just carriers.

Local Rotoms occasionally rotate shifts, but the Rotoms in the officers phones were different.

Rotom is also a Pokémon, and different Rotom have different personalities. Their function when inhabiting a phone is that of a digital assistant and AI, with each person having their preferred mode.

Normally, people don't change the Rotom inhabiting their phones. Even if the Rotom isn't present, the device can still be used as usual, just without the voice control feature.

That's why Jack didn't receive any message notifications.

Following Maria's reminder, Jack took out his Rotom phone, which displayed the group messages after the public announcement. He could even see Yamato's complaint below, but the message seemed to be cut off in the middle.

"What's she... up to?"

"Yamato? Probably challenging someone. Seems like it's Sister Shayna's turn. She's working hard to obtain the right to raise Larvitar."

"Still the same. But what about you? If you work hard, you could also get your own exclusive ship, right?"

"That's not my interest. I prefer staying by Lord Kaido's side. But there are no weaklings around Lord Kaido, so I need to get stronger too. How did selecting your subordinates go?"

"I originally wanted to choose Pay-tan, but Lord Arceus and Lord Kaido didn't agree. For the rest... let's see what Alcremie wants. Whoever it likes, I'll choose them. I don't really care.""

The two conversed as they walked outside. Not long after, they saw Yamato falling in front of them.

"Ouch... Jack? Maria? What are you doing here?"

"Isn't it normal for us to be here? What about you? Is this a new hobby?"

"No, but I didn't expect Sister Shayna to be so ruthless. Can you help me remove this?"

Yamato was still lying on the ground, her upper body firmly bound by a red chain.

"Strange. Dad told me I don't have to be afraid of Seastone, yet I can't remove this."

After struggling a bit, Yamato realized she couldn't do anything about the chain. It felt similar to the helplessness described by other Devil Fruit users when bound by Seastone.

"Of course, you can't remove it. This is a gift from Lord Sacred Beast, so Miss Yamato, does this count as surrender?"

"Surrender, I surrender. Really! Sister Shayna, you're much more difficult to deal with than Uncle Queen."

"Lord Sacred Beast told me to go all out, so I won't hold back. And I haven't used some abilities yet."

In order to protect her rights to raise Larvitar, Yamato keep challenging the officers, and this time it was Shayna's turn. Since she was required to use her full strength, Shayna used the Red Chain, and swiftly defeated Yamato by relying on the chain's properties.

Shayna also has Mega Evolution that she didnt use. Because of her unique weapon, she was the toughest challenge on Yamato's path.

After Yamato surrendered, the red chain loosened and returned to Shayna's hand, appearing as two bracelets on her wrist.

"Miss Yamato, why don't you continue challenging Queen? I happen to know a few methods specifically for dealing with him. I can teach you if you're interested."

"No need, I'll handle it myself. I'll try again with Zeraora later."

"Alright then, I have some business with Lord Sacred Beast. I'll take my leave."

With that, Shayna disappeared from their sight, and Yamato joined Jack in selecting subordinates.

...

"Jack, have you decided on whom to choose?"

As they were nearing the monastery, Yamato asked Jack the same question. Jack responded with the same explanation as before, but he remembered something else.

"By the way, while I've been away, is Sister Misu still at the monastery?"

"She's here, but she seems a bit busy lately. Why do you ask?"

"Brother Mandrell wanted to discuss something with her and asked me to deliver something to her."

Jack then pulled out a very tiny envelope from his pocket, devoid of any markings.

"What's this?"

"I'm not sure either. My mission this time was to rescue Tiger, who didn't seem happy after being saved. Later, Brother Mandrell talked to him the entire night, and afterward, he seemed like a changed person. He gave me this envelope before I left, and said it's more formal this way."

If speed was the goal, whether through Den Den Mushi, fax, or Rotom's communication methods, contacting Onigashima could have been done much earlier.

However, for a more formal touch, Tiger chose to have Jack deliver the letter.

Respecting privacy, Jack didn't open the letter. After all, the recipient was Misu; what business could two previously unrelated individuals have?

The contents of the letter were about Tiger's doubts regarding some doctrines. Mandrell couldn't answer some questions, so he suggested Tiger ask the one who compiled these doctrines and gave him Misu's name, leading to this situation.

Their experiences were quite similar; Misu's beliefs changed after her country's destruction and students' tragic deaths.

Similarly, Tiger underwent a baptism of doctrine at the brink of collapse. Due to these shared experiences, Tiger had a deeper understanding or even overinterpreted the doctrines compiled by Misu.

Some of the things described in it were indeed done by Arceus, but even Arceus could not have imagined these reasons. If this were to be turned into a reading comprehension, Arceus, the "culprit," would likely receive a zero score.

In the completed church, Yamato, Jack, and Maria found Sister Misu. The church was now fully completed, decorated with murals, reliefs and statues.

Both Misu and Shayna were pleased with the skills of Wano Country's artisans, especially with the lifelike statues.

Yamato even saw a statue of Kaido. Due to their partnership, Kaido was naturally included in her compilation, portrayed as a kind of human representative.

"It seems Mandrell has found a very loyal believer. Is he really not considering becoming a clergyman?"

Reading the contents of the letter, Misu felt a desire to bring him to her side.
