Chapter 239: Chapter: 239

"Don't stare at the fountain water, Groot, that's gross!"

Xandar, capital of the Nova Empire.

A raccoon-like creature was speaking human language, criticizing the behavior of a nearby tree-like being, Groot, for drinking water from the fountain.

As it was about to continue scolding Groot, the raccoon's tablet computer sounded an alert.

"Listen to this wonderful sound, it looks like we have another bounty on our hands. Let's see who the unlucky guy is this time..."

The raccoon, named Rocket, pointed the tablet at the crowd nearby and quickly located the target through the search system.

"Let me see... Oh, an Earthling! Who's so eager to find you?"

"Hmm! A bounty of 40,000 credits! Groot, we're going to strike it rich..."

Rocket turned his head and found his partner, Groot, still drinking water by the fountain. He sighed, shaking his head and holding his forehead with his hand.

Rocket and Groot were partners, posing as bounty hunters chasing after money on the surface, while secretly engaging in some cosmic thievery.

Today, they hit the jackpot as a major client posted a reward on the network, requesting the capture of a male Earthling, who happened to be nearby. It was like luck was on their side.

The Earthling they were after was none other than Star-Lord, who had recently earned a bad reputation. The one who issued the task was his adoptive father, Yondu, the leader of the one of the "Ravagers" mercenary group.

After learning that Star-Lord had taken refuge on Xandar, Yondu spent a fortune, offering a 40,000-credit bounty for the capture of Star-Lord and publicly declared that he would personally execute him in front of the rest of the Ravagers.

Looking at Groot and then at the updated mission and bounty on the tablet, Rocket felt tired of his partner's behavior. However, for the bounty within their reach, Rocket reinvigorated himself and forcefully dragged Groot away from the fountain.

"Listen, Groot, stop staring at that damn fountain. Now we need to focus on the guy in the red coat over there, the Earthling with the armored henchman."

"If we manage to take him down successfully, I promise to buy you premium organic fertilizer, okay? So, don't let me down and let the cooked duck fly away."

"I am Groot," Groot responded confidently, hearing Rocket's promise and stern reminder.

...

Meanwhile, Star-Lord was still unaware that he had been targeted and continued to stroll around the capital of the Nova Empire with Baymax.

He wanted to properly introduce Baymax, a newcomer, to the splendor of alien civilizations and equip it with some basic knowledge so that it could better assist him in future missions.

"Look at these buildings, impressive, right? Let me tell you, big guy, don't be fooled by their not-so-tall height above the ground. The real mystery lies beneath the surface.

To preserve the surface landscape and lighting, these buildings have a maximum of only a few dozen floors above ground. But below ground, they extend to hundreds of meters deep without such restrictions.

And those flying cars, you probably haven't seen them on Earth, have you? The anti-gravity engine design allows them to start and stop without frictional limitations, while also expanding the usability of roads in the vertical dimension, completely solving traffic congestion."

Star-Lord continued his enthusiastic introduction of the capital of the Nova Empire to Baymax, but the latter seemed disinterested and even a bit disappointed.

Because it had seen all kinds of cutting-edge technology collected in Mark's warehouse, seeing these products on Xandar now was like asking a college graduate to do elementary school homework. There was no novelty in it, and it could easily see the correct answers.

"Captain, I've already seen all these things back on Earth. You don't need to waste time introducing them to me."

"Look at you, why should you be polite to me as your captain—wait! Did you just say you've seen them on Earth?

Baymax, as a robot, lying isn't a good habit. Although I left Earth more than twenty years ago and haven't seen its development during these years, I'm certain that even after twenty more years of progress, Earth couldn't possibly reach the level of advancement on Xandar now."

Upon realizing what Baymax said, Star-Lord's first reaction was disbelief.

While his judgment might not be entirely wrong, without the existence of geniuses like Mark and Tony with superhuman intelligence, Earth wouldn't reach the level of development seen on Xandar even in a few more decades.

Although widespread adoption of advanced technology required significant capital and ample time support, it didn't hinder brilliant scientists from developing it first. Even if it couldn't be widely used, they could at least use it themselves.

And Baymax's owner, Mark, happened to be one of those genius scientists who was wealthy and gifted.

"Baymax isn't lying; I saw all these things in my owner's laboratory warehouse. For example, the anti-gravity engine, although it hadn't been put into practical use outside the laboratory back then, the superconducting magnetic levitation technology my owner used was much more powerful than the anti-gravity technology on Xandar.

The use of room-temperature superconducting technology not only reduces energy demands and losses but also greatly extends the flight time. Additionally, the entire device structure is simpler and more compact, saving a lot of space for aircraft and enhancing user comfort."

Listening to Baymax narrating the accomplishments of its mysterious owner while watching holographic experiment recordings and various technical data, Star-Lord truly believed in the brilliance of Baymax's owner.

This guy was simply a legendary child from a rich family, not only handsome and extraordinarily talented but also a super-rich second-generation inheriting billions without working hard. It made Star-Lord even think about going back to Earth to hug the thighs of Baymax's owner.

However, Star-Lord's fantasy didn't last because the detection system of Baymax showed that there were two suspicious individuals following them all the way from behind, and there was another powerful energy reaction ahead, seemingly waiting for them.

At this moment, they had truly fallen into a situation where they were surrounded on all sides...
