Chapter 132: 5.10

The seemingly dead woman laying in the chair stirred at my words, replying, "I leave you to admire the city, and you leave me to my calm. Wasn't it enough for you?"

My right hand slowly reached out for my dagger, I said, "As lovely as that would be, I came here for you, not the view."

She paused, before asking seriously, "I suppose you did not come here to merely talk either."

Seeing no point in lying, I replied, "I am on my way to the Orphan of Kos. If you let me pass, then I see no reason to fight."

"Then it seems we will have to fight." As if completely unconcerned by the situation, she slowly rose up, and snapped her weapon into two, with a gun in her left hand, and a sword in her right.

The infamous trick weapons of Bloodborne.

Not really being one to enjoy my fights much, other than showing the necessary respect by allowing her to prepare her weapon, I immediately jumped at her the moment she was armed, keeping myself low to the ground.

Her face looked like a doll's as she remained inexpressive, swinging her sword widely. It looked nonchalant, but it had years of mastery behind it as I could either jump and find myself face to face with her gun, or parry.

As our blades clashed, I immediately got a feel of her power, and wasn't too surprised to find her to be slightly stronger than me. I have already fought quite a few monsters of this world, and no normal human could defeat them, no matter how skilled.

But while she was stronger than me, I had the edge in speed and skill.

Right as our blades clashed, I quickly went for a second attack, as well as a third and a fourth, while pressing onto her. She remained composed, but she was forced to take several steps back as I quickly got a lick in, and scratched his arm.

The moment I did, she turned into mist and reappeared several meters away. Both she and I stopped as she looked down at her scratched arm, and it started dropping as she remarked, "Poison. Fine, then."

Suddenly, she stabbed her weapon into her own chest, but having made my research, I know she wasn't trying to make my task any easier.

[Alexander's POV]

The Council of Prometheus kept us for a while more, asking us a few questions about both the game and our circumstances, but we were as lost as they were. We didn't earn nothing either as we learned quite a few things too.

To start off, although they hadn't admitted it outright, they had made it clear with how much knowledge they had of the game that they had once been participants themselves.

It was also obvious they had many more secrets, both about themselves and about the world, or even about the game, but I couldn't really force the answers out of them.

They weren't elusive about everything, however. For example, they had explained to us what was happening, although there were still some areas of darkness.

We were in the middle of an invasion. What that meant, was that the dimension of Bloodborne was trying to invade ours, to merge with it and allow access to all of its inhabitants into our world.

Although it was apparently possible for this kind of event to happen, the chances of it happening were abysmally low, and it wasn't the case here.

Instead, it was the beings known as the Great Ones who were trying to gain access to our world.

It was a whole explanation, one that also showed me they didn't seem to know about the chaos. According to the woman of the Council, the Great Ones were a race that came from either another world or from what they called the 'outside'.

She couldn't really define what it was, and broadly referred to whatever they thought might be outside the regular dimension. This told me they had never seen the chaos, as while we might not have the same name for it, in the way they spoke of the outside, they had clearly never seen the chaos.

That happened for the same reason I retained some of my powers on Earth and they didn't. Although they remained rather illusive on this point, from what I could gather God's Game is a defense mechanism of Earth.

Whether it had appeared naturally or was something some being left behind, I couldn't say, but it was basically the reason powers couldn't exist on Earth. It was also what blocked most invasion attempts, too.

So even if someone managed to buy the strongest enhancements from God's shop, one could be a Super Saiyan God coupled with a Kryptonian and even some Marvel Eldritch Magic and it wouldn't change a thing. Before God, power matters not.

Well, in most cases. I was the exception here. I'm not sure of why that is exactly, but I'm starting to have my own theories, but nothing is sure for now.

Anyway, this invasion wasn't just like any invasion. Whether it was because God's protection had slowly eroded through time or the Great Ones were particularly skilled this time, but they had managed to poke a hole through Earth's defenses, which resulted in great danger.

Although neither I nor anyone else could remember a different version, according to the Council, they had found some evidence that Bloodborne… did not exist a week ago.

Just like Nodeo, it's creation within our culture was actually a result of the manipulations of the Great Ones. According to the Council, portraying a world through any medium, be it oral stories, movies or video-games, would create a sort of connection between the two worlds.

This was what allowed God's Game to send us to different worlds on missions, but this time it had been used by the Great Ones to get closer to us.

Moreover, they had even managed to use God's own defenses against itself by sending the players of our team into the world of Bloodborne, but by passing through Earth first.

We weren't sure yet of the purpose of doing so, but nothing was random with them.

One thing we do know though is that they are extremely skilled at what they do. They have already managed to infiltrate and take over Bloodborne's world, and if we didn't want Earth to turn into a Bloodborne 2.0 then we have to stop them before they fully invade us.

Unfortunately, there wasn't much I could do. Mary was now actively working with Prometheus to not only investigate Nodeo, where we had arrived, but also cross our information and try to find a solution to all of this.

Well, I suppose that if I don't have anything to do, I might as well use the opportunity of being on Earth.
