Chapter 18: Chapter 18 Songbird

"Hey, did you notice that Songbird just gave me another glance?"

To be precise, she was probably looking at both of us.

Colin thought to himself as he observed the excited cameraman beside him.

He realized that he had underestimated Smith; the other person's interests were much more diverse than he had imagined.

Songbird had long, white, and pink hair, and was dressed in a black and white tight-fitting uniform with a white emblem on her chest. Judging by the scream she let out when she appeared, it seemed like she possessed some kind of sonic ability... Oh, and she could fly too.

Recalling the wings flapping behind Songbird as she arrived, Colin silently added in his mind.

"Colin, hurry up, don't miss the opportunity to interview the Thunderbolts. This is a rare chance..."

Since Songbird's appearance, Smith had been closely monitoring the movements of the Thunderbolts. Seeing them showing signs of departure, he quickly urged them.

"...Do you want to spend your entire life reporting 'sensational' news?"

Why do I feel like you're more enthusiastic than me?

He silently complained to himself, but Colin was not slow in his actions either.

Although he didn't have the same fanatical pursuit of the Thunderbolts as Smith did, he wouldn't easily let go of the chance to interact with them for the purpose of collecting "Time Fragments." After all, that was one of his main objectives for being here.

Stopping the members of the Thunderbolts, Colin handed them the microphone with the "Daily Bugle" logo and turned his head to look at the camera in Smith's hands, assuming an interviewing stance. "Can we ask you a few questions?"

Pausing their steps and looking at the camera in front of Colin, Natasha and the others exchanged silent glances, and then Songbird smiled and replied, "Of course, no problem."

As the Thunderbolts, a superhero group engaged in official activities, they naturally had to cooperate with media interviews to maintain their public image.

"Regarding the recent major explosion, what caused it? Is it another crime related to superpowers?"

"It's obvious that we are superheroes. Our purpose for being here is naturally to combat criminals. As for who the criminals are, that is not our concern... Our duty is to protect the lives and safety of the people, and that is also the founding intention of the Thunderbolts..."

Facing Colin's question, Songbird appeared seasoned and shrugged her shoulders, as if implying something without revealing much.

Songbird's evasive and ambiguous answer wouldn't have satisfied another reporter so easily.

Even Songbird herself expected Colin to continue pressing her with further questions.

However, unexpectedly...

Upon hearing her response, the journalist in front of her nodded in satisfaction and then passed the microphone from his hand to Hyde, who stood beside him.

"So, Mr. Hyde, what is your opinion on this explosion incident?"

Songbird: "..."

Hyde: "..."

Colin's action not only caught Songbird off guard but also surprised Hyde, who was being addressed.

Within the camera's frame, this middle-aged man with a stern expression remained silent for several seconds before shaking his head and hoarsely saying, "I have no opinion."

[Black Iron Mark (9/10)]

"Okay, thank you very much, Mr. Hyde, for your valuable insight."

Hyde: "?"

...

"Colin, your interview just now was quite something..."

Watching the Thunderbolts members walk away, Smith put down the camera on his shoulder while muttering, "It was a disaster. Can you imagine the expression on Mr. Hyde's face? I couldn't help but sweat for you..."

[Black Iron Mark (9/10)]

Just one more piece to find.

"I just didn't perform well..."

Taking his gaze off the text prompt in front of him, Colin heard the camera's complaint and smiled, explaining, "After all, this was my first interview with members of the Thunderbolts. It's natural to feel a bit nervous."

"You're right."

Smith nodded, somewhat convinced by Colin's explanations, but he couldn't help but feel disappointed as he glanced at the camera in his hand. "It's a shame that we finally encountered members of the Thunderbolts, but we didn't capture much usable footage."

Colin's underwhelming performance had resulted in a lackluster interview, with very little valuable material to work with.

"Looking at it from a different perspective, this turned out to be an unexpected surprise. If we had stuck to our original filming schedule, we would have been waiting outside the Hilton Hotel, trying to catch a glimpse of Kardashian or other similar tabloid stories. Or we would have been assigned to stake out various locations for gossip-worthy news..."

Colin tried to console the cameraman with a casual tone and a pat on the shoulder.

"I guess you're right."

The consolation seemed to have an effect, as a look of realization crossed Smith's face.

...

"Well then, I'll see you tomorrow, Colin."

Getting into his old car, the cameraman rolled down the window and waved at Colin.

"See you tomorrow, Smith."

Returning the wave, Colin turned his gaze toward the devastated street behind him.

Amidst the bustling presence of police and firefighters who had arrived at some point.

As the Thunderbolts departed, the responsibility of cleanup fell to the police. From the damaged buildings, numerous civilians emerged, shouting and seeking help.

In the distance, journalists hurriedly arrived, vying for coverage of the explosion, putting on a show of enthusiasm in front of the cameras.

Shaking his head, Colin shifted his focus away from the surrounding crowd.

In comparison to his sluggish colleagues, Colin, and his team not only obtained firsthand news from the explosion site, but he also achieved his primary objective for this trip—the collection of "Time Fragments."

His gaze fell upon several marked fragments.

"Time Fragment (Black Widow)" × 3

"Time Fragment (Songbird)" × 1

"Time Fragment (Mr. Hyde)" × 1

On the broken surface of the "Time Fragments," faint images of Natasha, Songbird, and Mr. Hyde flickered. The fragment representing Mr. Hyde even revealed a glimpse of him consuming a potion and undergoing a transformation. Connecting this with the conversation Colin had with Natasha earlier, he had a hunch about Mr. Hyde's method of transformation.
