Chapter 23

After tossing Law out from the second floor for the twentieth time, Corazon was quite distressed, lighting a cigarette for himself.

He hadn't expected the stubbornness of this little devil.

But surely he should be reaching his limit, considering his injuries.

However, Law didn't see it this way.

He would never give up!

This fierce determination was successfully perceived by Corazon.

Therefore, he reluctantly went outside, choosing a random place to sit down.

This time, he decided to stand his ground here, denying even the opportunity for the other party to enter.

Another reason for doing this was his fear that after a few more throws, he might accidentally kill Law.

That would completely contradict his original intent.

"Once I get rid of this guy, I hope the other brat, who is still in the medical room, will be easier to handle," Corazon silently mused to himself, eventually becoming lost in thought.

At this moment, Law was almost blinded by rage.

Warnings, Blood House Rules—all were pushed to the back of his mind.

All he knew now was that if he couldn't deal with Corazon, he would never have the chance to join the Donquixote family.

Gritting his teeth, Law glanced around, saw that no one was nearby, and a wicked idea sprouted in his mind!

"Kill him! As long as nobody sees it, nobody will know it was me!"

So he retrieved the short knife that had fallen nearby on the first day, then quietly walked towards the daydreaming Corazon.

When Abel and Baby-5 came out of the building, they happened to see Law holding the short knife, fiercely stabbing towards Corazon's back.

"Ah!"

Baby-5 cried out subconsciously.

Both Corazon and Law's attention were drawn to her almost simultaneously.

"Damn it! I've been spotted, at this time!"

But the arrow had to be released once it was on the bowstring. Law, not caring about anything else, bit the bullet and stabbed out.

Thud!

Corazon, who had already sensed the murderous intent behind him, inexplicably didn't dodge, but only slightly turned his body to avoid the vital part, enduring the knife's thrust.

"Success!"

Joy surged in Law's heart; all he needed to do now was deal with the witness.

The witness was just a little girl, and what's more, he saw Abel, who had been absent for several days, beside her!

As long as the two of them worked together, there was a fair chance they could pull off this cover-up.

It must be said, Law at this stage was somewhat naive.

In this world, many people act without needing any so-called evidence.

If Corazon were to actually die here, once Doflamingo returned, he would merely slaughter everyone under suspicion to avenge his younger brother. That's all there was to it.

"Law, you're absolutely finished this time!"

Buffalo, holding a large ice cream, appeared not far behind Law. He seemed to have just returned from a shopping trip.

He had just happened to witness Law stabbing Corazon, which shocked him so much that he dropped his ice cream.

Law, who turned around to see Buffalo return, was utterly speechless.

Why didn't you guys show up just two minutes earlier!

Now, even if it was 2 vs. 2, he and Abel didn't have high chances of winning. After all, Abel's arms were broken, and chubby Buffalo's 'combat power' appeared quite formidable.

Moreover, the opposition only needed to shout twice, and people would come rushing, marking the end of all things.

Considering this, Law immediately made a decision.

Escape!

He didn't want to die, or rather, he couldn't die now.

So, his only option was to flee.

To ensure Abel wasn't implicated, he didn't even bother to alert him and started running.

"You won't be able to escape, you're doomed!"

Buffalo shouted loudly, chasing after him.

In his mind, he was thinking if he could bring Law back, wouldn't that be a great accomplishment?

When young master Doflamingo returned, wouldn't he reward him with a hundred and eighty ice creams?!

For the ice cream, he had to go all out!

Abel watched as Law disappeared into the distance, feeling speechless.

He understood why Law ran and why Law didn't acknowledge him.

But was it really necessary?

At the same time, he had no intention of pursuing. As Buffalo had accurately pointed out, Law had no chance of escaping.

Since he would eventually be caught and brought back, why waste energy?

He then saw Corazon, with a knife still in his back, stand up, coughing up blood, and walk inside.

Suddenly, Abel wondered if Corazon had deliberately not dodged that knife to drive Law away?

After all, the man was a legitimate Navy Captain. It was improbable that he wouldn't react at all to Law's underhanded assault.

But if it was all a deliberate ruse to scare Law away, everything would make sense.

Even the most incompetent person couldn't be this incompetent.

It wasn't until Corazon passed Abel and Baby-5 that he suddenly reached out to grab Abel's head.

"Damn it, I've been wary of you!"

Cursing quietly, Abel, who had been watching Corazon's movements closely, swiftly moved backward, evading his grasp.

Seeing Abel react so quickly, Corazon, who had planned to follow up his attack, was taken aback. He then pretended as if nothing had happened and walked away.

"Can you please not tell anyone about Law stabbing Corazon?"

After Corazon had left, Abel began cleaning up for Law.

"I'm needed again, huh? I won't say anything~" Baby-5 immediately covered her mouth in joy.

Successfully securing one, only Buffalo, the chubby kid, was left to handle. After all, Corazon would definitely keep mum.

"Baby-5, do you know what Buffalo likes?"

"I do! Buffalo loves to gamble."

"Gamble?"

Nodding thoughtfully, Abel had grasped another weakness of Buffalo, "Anything else?"

"Well, does liking ice cream count? Buffalo loves the deluxe ice cream from the town's dessert shop. It costs 500 beli per serving, so he often borrows money from me."

That's it!

Abel planned to bribe Buffalo.

Although the kid seemed not too bright, he wasn't that dumb in reality.

And his reason for thinking he could bribe Buffalo was merely that he believed Buffalo didn't like Corazon. After all, according to Baby-5, they had both been 'abused' by Corazon in the past.

Under these circumstances, Buffalo might be willing to cover up for Law for the sake of deluxe ice cream.

As long as Baby-5 and Buffalo kept quiet, he and Law said nothing, and Corazon, who was stabbed, stayed silent, when Doflamingo returned, this matter would naturally be buried.

Thus, Abel immediately put on a handsome smile and asked Baby-5, "Can you lend me some money? I really need it."
