Chapter 202: The Cryptid Menace

At close range, the Ankarog's were perfect predators. As long as the men maintained their distance, they still had some hope of pushing the Ethereals back. But in melee combat, not even the most skilled soldier in the provincial army had any chance of killing an Ankarog Warrior alone.

Nikolai and the only other surviving guard tried their best to distract the Ethereals with their gunshots, but the Ankarogs paid no heed to them. Instead, they continued feasting on their fresh kills. 

Although in the Nightscape, the Ankarogs would mostly feed on gnomes and smaller wild animals, this particular Ankarog colony had developed a liking for human flesh. They had marked this village as their hunting ground and had no intention of retreating without slaughtering as many villagers as they could get their arms on.
