Chapter 12: 12: The Big Bad Wolf [2]

Screeehhhhh-

The tires screeched to a halt, leaving a trail of black marks on Scott's lawn. I jumped out of the jeep and rushed into the house, not caring about the lights still on or the engine running dry. My mind was already racing with scenarios, preparing for the possibility of having to rush Scott to the hospital.

"Scott!" I yelled as I climbed the stairs, my heart pounding with tension, stress, and a hint of anticipation. I couldn't ignore the fact that he was a werewolf.

My steps came to a halt when I stood before his closed bedroom door. I blinked and yelled his name again, knocking on the door. Locked doors never stopped me from entering his room before.

I reached for the knob and turned it, but suddenly, I was pushed back from the other side.

"Stiles." I heard Scott's whimpering voice from behind the door.

"Scott?! Scott, are you alright?!" I yelled, pushing my body against the door, trying to force it open. Scott pushed back with equal force.

"No." He muttered.

"Scott, let me in. I can help." I said, taking a deep breath. However, I then closed my nose as a strong, wet dog smell filled my nostrils. I narrowed my eyes, trying to locate the source of the smell coming from a small opening in the door.

"No, No!" He yelled. "Listen to me, you've got to find Allison."

"Ah..." I stammered, the dog scent growing stronger by the moment. I shook my head, trying to snap out of it. "No, that's not a problem. I dropped her off at home, she's fine, totally fine."

"No, you don't understand!" He screamed.

"Scott, let me in!" I couldn't hold back the tension any longer and pushed with all my strength.

The door finally gave way with a loud crash, and Scott stumbled back from the force. I almost fell as the door swung open, but I quickly regained my balance.

As I looked up, I witnessed an utterly stunning scene, something that seemed only possible in fiction.

The window was raised, and the full moon shone right in view. The silhouette of Scott stood before me, his hair dripping with water, ears elongated like an elf's, saliva dripping from his mouth, and teeth sharp like a canine's. A strange beard grew from his lower jaw, and his nose appeared sharper than Dobby from Harry Potter. However, the most striking feature of all was his glowing, golden yellow eyes.

"Shhhit!" I muttered.

"I think I know who it is." He muttered, hiding in the shadows.

"Scott-" I tried to approach him, but he raised his hand, his nails bent like claws, stopping me in my tracks.

"It's Derek. Derek Hale is the werewolf." Scott said, confirming my suspicions.

My eyes widened as everything suddenly connected in my mind.

"Oh shit!" I exclaimed, catching Scott's attention.

"What?" He asked, his chest heaving as if struggling to breathe.

"Somebody followed my jeep until I left Allison, but I didn't see the car after that. What if it was Derek, and he went for her to threaten you, us?" I spilled out the most logical scenario my mind could come up with, and Scott seemed to see it too.

"Groowwrrr!"

Scott suddenly roared and ran towards the window, leaping outside.

"Scott!" I yelled, reaching out for him. I looked out the window, hoping to see a bloody mess or a limping Scott, but instead, I watched him run on all fours like a dog into the woods.

"What the hell?" I muttered. Then, it hit me that Allison could be in life-threatening danger.

"Shit!" I cursed my hyperactive mind and rushed out of the room, down to my Jeep, and floored the gas pedal, immediately turning around.

The trees blurred behind me as the jeep roared down the road. My fingers pressed against my head, worrying about Allison while my mind conjured intrusive and cruel scenarios of what Derek might do to her. I tried to shake off those horrific thoughts and focused on a somewhat related topic—why wasn't I changing?

I mean, it's probably a good thing that I wasn't turning into a werewolf, losing my rationality, and running on all fours. But I couldn't help but wonder why Scott changed while I didn't feel anything.

'Not the time, Stiles. Keep it together, don't lose it now.' I muttered to myself as the jeep entered Greener Avenue for the second time tonight.

Parking in front of her house, I jumped out and rushed to the door. My jacket waved back and forth as I pressed the bell three times anxiously. Feeling like it was too late, I pounded on the door.

The door suddenly unlocked, catching me by surprise. A woman in her 30s, seriously good-looking, opened it. Her short hair bounced as she faced me, raising her eyebrows in doubt and narrowing her eyes suspiciously.

"Hi, Mrs. Argent. Um..." I was momentarily at a loss for words, so I decided to go with the flow. "You have no idea who I am. I'm a friend of your daughter's."

"Oh, hello." She smiled, stepping aside to let me in.

"Yeah, hi." I returned the smile before remembering the urgency of my visit. "Um, look, this is gonna sound kind of crazy, um, really crazy, actually. You know what, crazy doesn't-"

"Allison, it's for you!" Mrs. Argent called out to a balcony led upstairs.

And there she stood, Allison, eating a protein bar, still in her party dress with the jacket missing.

"Stiles?" She called my name as she came down the stairs. Meanwhile, I stood there with my jaws dropped, not expecting her to be completely fine.

"You okay?" She asked as she reached the bottom of the stairs. I stammered for a moment, unsure of what to say.

"Y-Yeah… Are you okay?" I finally managed to ask, causing her to squint awkwardly.

"Yeaah?" She trailed, puzzled by my question.

"Okay." I nodded, trying to wrap my head around the fact that she was completely fine. I even felt a twinge of disappointment at this revelation.

"So what's the crazy thing you were talking about?" Mrs. Argent interjected, drawing Allison's attention.

"Well, uh... that's um..." I struggled to come up with something coherent. "I was going to, uh, ask... if it was okay with you, if I took Allison to the uh... beach, yes, the beach, with the waves and sand, yep lots of sand."

'I mean… Why are you so stupid, Stiles? She knows beaches have waves.' I chastised myself internally.

Mrs. Argent scrutinized her brows and looked at me cautiously, her lips musing down before settling on a small smile. Allison was looking at her mom expectantly.

"Uh, what's your name?" Mrs. Argent inquired.

"Stiles, Stiles Stilinski, ma'am."

"Stiles, isn't there a curfew?" She pointed out.

"Yes." I nodded.

"That's right, I'm a total idiot." I muttered aloud, turning toward Allison. "I will see you, Allison, in-in school tomorrow, bye."

I didn't wait for their response, as I was already too embarrassed. I turned back and hurried to my jeep.

"Stiles, wait!" Allison suddenly called out, causing me to stop and turn around. She sighed and looked at her mom.

"Mom, can I go?" She asked.

Mrs. Argent raised her brows, seeming surprised by her daughter's behavior. She glanced at me before looking back at Allison.

"But the curfew-" She started, but Allison cut her off.

"I will be back before Dad comes home for dinner, I promise." Allison assured.

Mrs. Argent sighed, folding her arms, giving me a look of judgment.

"Is it just going to be you two?" She asked, and I pointed at myself, unsure if the question was meant for me. She nodded.

"Uh… No, probably not." I said, entirely unsure of my answer.

She narrowed her eyes dangerously and sighed again before turning back to Allison.

"Fine, but young lady, if you are not back in an hour, I'm gonna go-." Allison didn't let her finish. She quickly kissed her mom's cheek and hopped out of the house.

"I promise, I will be back." She smiled, hopping backward toward me. Then, looking at her mother, she turned around and quietly whispered, walking past me to my Jeep. "Let's go before she changes her mind."

"Uh…." I trailed before nodding and rushing to my Jeep.

Allison hopped in, but I stopped before getting in. I sighed and picked up my phone.

Well, this could have been a great opportunity to get to know Allison better, but I didn't want to come across as the kind of guy who would make a move on a girl right after his best friend dumped her at a party and left.

More importantly, I didn't want Allison to think that, so I had to call someone and make this a not-just-us moment.

The phone rang on the other end, and after a moment or two, she picked up.

"Hello." She said.

"I need your help." I dropped it bluntly.

"..." There was absolute silence from the other end for a second.

"Hello?" I said, making sure she was still there.

"Put the body on a plastic wrap and tie the ends with a rope, make sure there is no blood trail, get it to your house, and I will meet you in 5 minutes with my chainsaw." Tara spilled her plan, and I was beyond stunned.

"Ok, great, I didn't kill anyone."

"You didn't?"

"Yeah."

"Then why did you call me?" She asked, almost sounding offended by it.

"Would you like to go to the beach with me?" I asked, taking a deep breath and hoping her inner introvert wouldn't say no.

"Is Scott going to be there?"

"Uh, no." Speaking of which, I had no idea where he was. He got a head start, running on all fours even before me, but I don't see him anywhere.

"...." Silence descended once again.

"Hello, Tara?"

"Fine, pick me up."
