Chapter 36: Entangled in the Web  

"Why do you always refer to your father as 'he', Jack?" Scarlett queried, her voice laced with concern. "You two even shared a movie night. It must sting a little, hearing that."

Jack's face remained a stoic mask as he responded, "I didn't insult him. Why should he feel hurt? You, on the other hand, are excessively formal, always using 'you'. It's hard to decipher what's going on in your mind."

Caught in a whirlwind of amusement and frustration, Scarlett retorted, "What am I thinking, then? Do enlighten me, because I'm utterly lost."

Jack scoffed dismissively, "I'd suggest you steer clear of any unsuitable thoughts."

Feeling cornered, Scarlett offered Jack a playful curtsy, "Alright, I'll heed your advice."

Jack knew she was merely humoring him. He spoke in a tepid tone, "Firstly, he's not attracted to your kind. Secondly, you've seen the woman who was vying for his attention last time. She's a formidable opponent. If she senses your intentions, you'll be in hot water."
