Chapter 41: Rise and Dine

Casimir stirred awake... or at least tried to. He was currently unable to move from what he could tell. His eyelids were heavier than thou and his body's nervous system cut from its command. He checked his glyph and strangely enough, it was working, it never went offline it seems. He had several new additions to his information and it was a welcome change. Amidst all the chaos back on the battlefield he had managed to slay an array of Totem apes and he was now laden with several of their cores.

Not to mention the Umbra Trawl he had slaughtered just before he lost consciousness. He cursed his luck. He had come up against quite the fearsome predator when he was immersed in the depths of the Sherith Canal. Its ability was the perfect tool for hunting creatures that relied on their sight to navigate the depths. The fact that it was seemingly alone also allowed Casimir to conclude that it was one of the top dogs of its own food chain within the ecosystem it hailed from. Maybe the ability didn't just block sight but whatever means creatures of the Sherith Canal used to navigate its depths, he just didn't have the means or sense necessary to find out considering he wasn't an aquatic abyssal creature.

Heritage: none

Ether: [188/1000]

The Totem ape core went up to fifteen after he counted them. He had done well during their battle, but he reminded himself that they were only inferior beasts. However, the Umbra Trawl wasn't. That killer was a superior monster... a whole rank above his soul core rank! He had bested it in combat and it held the home advantage. If there was anything he deserved to be proud of, then it was that.

He had his aura and his inherited blade to thank. His Aura had acted on the ability, which Casimir suspected was a passive one and not an Origin ability equivalent. His aura was tailored at breaking down ether forms and rendering them useless when they entered its sphere of influence. He didn't know how strong the effect would be against primary abilities. However, he knew that passive ones offered little resistance.

The aura belonging to oblivion would do what its nature entails... destroy. He was yet to fully understand the working of ether and its influence on reality. The information from Gedeon's tome had shaken whatever knowledge he had received and built upon, on the workings of ether in this world of his.

Speaking of ether he sent his senses to his core. It was still brimming with a lot o ether even after that attack on the Umbra Trawl. He had infused a lot of his ether to his muscles in several instances during his plethora of battles so to say he wasn't surprised was a lie. Unless... unless Casimir had been out cold for longer than just a few odd minutes he had led himself to believe. Fundamentally that didn't bother him, he could do with some rest, however, he was currently in an unknown environment and the last thing he needed was to find himself being eaten alive by some critter that managed to just stumble upon his unconscious body.

Speaking of which, he was gradually regaining control of his senses again and it wasn't a pleasant experience, to say the least. His body, which had not been reporting anything back to his mind, greeted him with sticking pain and obvious ache. His sensory lag was something he was not willing to experience again but knowing his luck, he would probably go through it again in the not-so-distant future. By his right thigh was a gnawing pain, he remembered that place being the first point of contact with the trawl. It had come close to liberating a large chunk of his flesh free, he didn't understand how it didn't after having seen its teeth but he wasn't complaining, he would take whatever good luck he could get.

He was starting to regain control of most of his body. He let his aura loose a little to scope out his surroundings in case of any threats lurking nearby.

'Well ill be damned.'

His mind was trying to process what was going on and regain control of most of his senses and their respective connections to his body. So the surprise he felt when he found not only one but four creatures within the vicinity, all of which he assumed to be supreme beasts, dillydallying near him. That gnawing pain was the responsibility of one of the said creatures. He assumed it was taking bites of his thigh.

Eventually, his senses returned to him in earnest and he could now sense the creatures without using his aura. He hadn't moved, so as to keep his element of surprise and the advantage he had over the abyssal creatures. He needed to think of a way to deal with the creatures fast and quickly.

Reaching for the ether in his core, he let his ability transform it. Paint it as if it were a canvas on which a masterpiece would be brought to life. Instantaneously Black and white flames erupted from the bottom half of his body. He had tried to concentrate them on his thigh, but his command was still lacking it seemed. The creature that had been making a meal of his leg had its snout, engulfed in flames. Destruction worked quickly and made light work of the creature. He stopped the flames after he felt the sensation of his glyph calling for him to look at it. He didn't have ether to waste.

What transpired in the next moment happened so fast. He had summoned the Cestane armour and Tranquillity and took a large step backwards to distance himself from the three abyssal creatures that were present. As for the creatures, as soon as one of their own went up in flames there was a moment of confusion that they underwent, which in turn allowed Casimir to ready himself for conflict.

He brandished his blade at the hideous things before him.

"Well then, looks like I'm not dead... I must say I will not be doing that again."
