Chapter 32: Transit

Once everything had settled the convoy departed. They left the military headquarters shortly after their officers had sorted out a few things with the head office registrar. The peace presented by the early morning silence allowed Casimir to have a much better hold on his attention span. A few minutes into the journey the vehicle made a short stop and continued on its way. He deduced that they passed the gates and had officially left the military campus.

He made a quick glance at his glyph.

Sometime last month, he had summoned the Iron Maiden just to familiarise himself with its looks. The armour largely resembled a traditional Japanese samurai armour. The shiny and bleak metal of the armour was by far the most attractive piece of metal he'd ever seen, and he described it that way for lack of better terms. The kabuto however was even more intricately designed than the amrour came with. Its kuwagata was a darker shade of grey that adorned the rest of the armour. The end of the two horns had three end pieces that resembled little crowns.

The mask was even more intimidating. It was a metal of the visage of a twisted and toothy smile with red lines that resemble tear streams, going down from the eyes to the chin. Casimir assumed that's what the description meant when it spoke about the tears shed by the Maiden. There was a lot of hidden meaning behind what the armour represented and he wondered what its connection to Gedeon was in particular. Another problem he had was with Gedeon himself, the mighty nation or people, he was still unsure because there was no knowledge anywhere he looked within the library in an attempt to find out more about where his origin came from and what it was associated with.

He had also taken a look at the blade he received from the child of Gideon. The blade was different from the armour and was made from shiny black steel. Tranquillity, as the name would suggest, was a blade made for the sole purpose dispatching of enemies quickly and quietly… okay maybe it wasn't that obvious. It was like it was made for stealth missions and assassinations, but the blade was too long if its purpose was to assassinate. The enchantments on the blade also suggested it was much more of an assassin's weapon. The only logical explanation would be it was a backup weapon in the case that the first assassination attempt had failed and the assassin was forced to fight head-on. Not that it made much sense but Casimir was just listing down possible explanations for such a streamlined blade.

As for Brilliant Crescent, he had received that during his first month after placing first in their physicals. Brilliant Crescent as a curved golden odachi. The weapon was a bold choice he had made considering he had never held one a single day in his life. But he hoped that since he was more familiar with the workings of a single-handed blade similar to your typical bastard sword, how hard could a double-handed giant katana be? He also didn't know if the dance of Deidemia could be performed using Blades of different sizes.

'It should be possible right the Obsidian knight used a great sword, not a bastard sword.'

There was much he was still yet to experiment with the dance of Deidemia, but that was because he had yet to understand the underlying fundamentals of the dance. He didn't know why but he felt if he got that then the dance would automatically become much more than what he was acquainted with. Possibly even crossing over into the domains of other weapons and not just swords and swords alone. The endless possibility and prospects presented By the ancient mesmerising dance made his mouth water. There was reason for excitement in his life, he just didn't know if he should actually be excited or not given his track record of misfortunes.

So much was awaiting and yet the threats kept on pilling, one after another, the next more worrisome and dangerous and that which came before it. Again, he felt his heart shake he felt his determination waver, it was so much pressure for one man. He was trying his absolute best to not lose his mind over the things that he could not control, but usually, things you could not control did not control your life per se, so when they did, fear was the most natural response and right now Casimir, although not a stranger was spending most of his time with it.

He opened his eyes and looked around. Approximately thirty minutes had gone by since they left the military campus and the majority of his squad mates were still fast asleep. Some, however, had already awoken, just not from his group. A young man named Michael from the group assigned to scouting and rearguard was chatting animatedly with a member of his group. The boy was clearly excited as was his comrade they had every reason to be, it was their first campaign.

Officer Evelyn had made it a point to him that excitement usually killed soldiers. She explained that since awakening, one would undergo a change in specific emotions and what triggered them often because the power they received called for it. She stressed the fact that their characters wouldn't receive drastic changes but sometimes drastic things would happen regardless. He too would feel excited at the most random times prior to today, but he had an anchorage to reality. The prophecy he had seen kept clawing at him in the back of his mind. So his bleak outlook on his future kept him from sharing their enthusiasm.

Maybe given enough time things would get better for him but for now things definitely weren't and he was aware of that.
