Boarding(2)

The vehicle they were boarding was one of the special all-terrain transport that the military-owned. It was constructed for the sole purpose of weathering any kind of environment soldiers went, during their respective campaigns. Cestane's superior economy allowed for them to make strides, leaps and bounds in terms of development in all fields possible and the development of such an armoured titan was just another day in the office for its impeccable artisans.

The particular vehicle that made up the majority of the convoy was an assault-oriented one and they also had one reconnaissance-based vehicle for scouting. After the roll call, they entered the vehicle and the interior was much better than Casimir had expected for such a rugged vehicle. The interior styling was like most military vehicles with seeds along the edges and space within the middle of the vehicle. Casimir took a seat closer to the door and next to him sat Oscar. Casimir was grateful that the higher-ups had decided on them leaving much early in the morning. It allowed him to enjoy his peace while in the company of his groggy acquaintance. You would think that after two months of enduring such a schedule, they would get used to waking up much early, alas they were still human after all.

When the rest of his squad mates finished entering their vehicle and strapping on their seat belts Officer Bennett came in and took a quick glance in their section of the vehicle to ensure that the cadets had settled down properly. Their officers would sit in the cockpit with the driver of the large machine. From what Casimir could tell Officer Bennett was one who played it by the rule book and hardly strayed from it. for the most part, he seemed like an upright gentleman. Officer Margaret however was laxer in comparison to her male colleague. That was not to say she tended to bend the rules but she wasn't as strict as the fine gentleman who was their guest officer.

A lot had gone on between now and two months ago when Casimir began his military training on the military campus. The disappointment of not having been presented with the opportunity of joining one of Cestane's high families was short-lived and he moved on quickly. Joining the military, however, had proven to be the better option as it stood. At least from his point of view. There was a lot he hadn't considered at the time when his interest in joining one of the big boys was much more apparent. Another problem he had avoided when he hadn't joined one of the other families was ongoing gossip about feuds occurring and interfamilial problems arising because more youths were being taken under the wings of the higher families out of the bounds of regulations they had made amongst themselves.

It didn't sit right with Casimir that now more than ever they were increasing the number of intakes they had yearly yet there was no obvious or direct reason to justify them to doing so. Almost as if there was something they were preparing for that they had decided to keep away from the public. Anyway, none of that was of concern to Casimir, right now his main focus was on their upcoming campaign in the blood Savannah. He briefly looked around and the majority of his squad mates were still sleepy, which is a plus because the atmosphere would be much quieter allowing him to organise his thoughts. He liked to pay attention to things, but often found himself wondering not too long after.

The vehicle didn't have large enough windows for him to peer outside, and the small ones they possessed were still too high relative to the sitting position for him to steal the occasional glance at the outside world. He felt more like a prisoner in transit. So, in the end, he crossed his arms and shut his eyes and sat quietly. A few more minutes went by before the engine of the vehicle roared to life. Surprisingly even given how loud the engine had risen from its own slumber, the cadets within the vehicle had not moved an inch. Officer Evelyn's voice ran through The cabin, both informing and passing instructions regarding their situation.

"Okay, now cadets we shall depart, fasten your seat belts. Make sure to not undo them during transit you have free to converse with each other… rather I would suggest you do so and build some form of trust amongst yourselves. We shall now be leaving the military campus; may you enjoy your ride."

Soon after the announcement, the vehicle began moving, they were now leaving. Adrenaline and excitement shot through Casimir; he was also nervous. He hoped that they would get to the Blood Savannah in one piece, especially after the nightmares he had. He remembered what Eye of Solace had told him about prophecies and how sometimes they did not qualify for or limited to a single individual, and by that logic, not every disaster should qualify or be limited to him being its main character. But fate was a fickle thing, unpredictable in its nature and unforgiving in its delivery. He knew that as well as anyone could. He was also aware that much of his fate would be tested as he went on with his life because of the power he now carried.

A sudden wave of uncertainty struck him and he felt somewhat worried that maybe he had bit off more than he could chew. He was treading in dangerous waters, far too dangerous for even him. What if his strength was inadequate? He didn't have the experience that his supposed enemies had nor the raw strength to combat them much less their influence. It was times like these where he would cry out within his mind and beg the question…why him? He was still a young man after all.

'But if you don't know why now Cass then why not just try for the Child of Gedeon, at least for his sake right? You promised him didn't you…'

Following his mental comments was a deep and troubled sigh, he relaxed and closed his eyes. He hoped their journey wouldn't be long but it was just a hope wasn't it?
