Nick wasn't all that worried though since even in the book Malfoy failed to achieve anything with this information save making the golden trio panic. "Well it's a good thing that we were going to write to Mr. Scamander then isn't it?" he said and everyone expressions lit up. "That's right! Malfoy would be helpless to stop us if we did that." Ron said excited by the idea. "I'd honestly thought I'd have more time with little Norberta. But Mr. Scamander would probably know whats best for her." Hagrid said teary eyed and clearly upset.-
Nick noticed that Hagrid had gotten the gender of the little dragon correct this time unlike in the book and assumed this was because of the ring on the half giants finger. Still after getting an absence slip from Hagrid for missing class the group left Hagrid alone. Nick was the one who sent Newt Scamander the letter talking about the situation and asking for assistance. He also added the information on the core of his wand as an extra lure to get the man interested. Nick didn't think that Newt was naïve enough not to notice this but as a lover of all things magizoological he probably couldn't resist the temptation anyways.-
A couple of days passed after that and much like Nick thought Newt did indeed notice the lure as the letter he had received from the man joked about it. But Newt did confirm that he would be making a stop at Hogwarts to take the dragon without any issue. The part that made Nick grimace however was that in the letter Newt stated that he would be informing Dumbledore of this when he made his visit. Still the pickup time was suspiciously the same as it was in the book at a week and a half later.-
Nick informed his friends and Hagrid of this and Ron somehow ended up with the letter , not that Nick tried to stop it. The events of the end of the year were coming up and there were a few key things that needed to happen to set the stage for Voldemort's downfall at the end of it. First and foremost was the forbidden forest incident with Harry that needed to get detention in order to happen. At this point in time Voldemort was struggling to stay in Quirrell's body and as a result was nearly harmless at the moment.-
Nick was pretty sure the magic he used to hunt unicorns was the crippling sort rather than anything truly powerful since once a centaur appeared he fled the area. If Voldemort could perform powerful magic then he would have definitely taken the opportunity to kill Harry but he didn't which said he clearly wasn't able to. During this waiting period Nick had to deal with a strange sickness that had him laid up in the hospital wing shivering and sweating blood and throwing up chunks of flesh.-
Madam Pomfrey had no clue what was going on as all of her diagnostic spells said he was perfectly healthy. Nick knew that they weren't lying as he was healthy however he had reached the part of his transformation where his bone marrow , organs and flesh was starting to be replaced by elven versions. While this was going on his body was violently rejecting his human parts causing this strange situation. It caused quite the sensation throughout Hogwarts as despite madam Pomfrey's , Snape's and even Dumbledore's best efforts Nick didn't improve much at all. If it wasn't for the fact that all of them found that the strange illness wasn't life threatening for Nick he would have been sent to Saint Mungos for further examination and treatment.-
This illness made the visit from Newt rather awkward for Nick as he couldn't show the man the respect he deserves. Newt himself was an old but healthy man with wrinkled sun tanned skin and short messy grey hair and a kind smile. "You needn't worry about the young dragon as I have already taken care of it , though a couple of students were caught breaking curfew and given detention for it it seems." he said from the foot of the hospital bed Nick was in.-
"Hahaha! Yeah I am pretty sure I know which ones too , but I assume you are here in regards to the other thing that was in my memory." Nick said with a raspy voice and laugh. Coughing up flesh and blood had left his throat quite sore so he sounded terrible. "Yes , I admit you certainly aroused my interest with this information. I had to do quite a lot of digging to find proof of your claims but the information of this magical bird is incomplete to put it mildly." Newt said honestly.
