Chapter 8: Chapter 5 : The Cat's Secret

As they made their way towards the mage's stronghold, Bjorn suddenly stopped in his tracks, his ears pricking up as he listened intently.

"What is it?" Geralt asked, noticing the sudden change in Bjorn's demeanor.

"I hear something," Bjorn replied, his voice low and tense. "It sounds like...meowing?"

Geralt and the others exchanged a look of confusion, but they trusted Bjorn's instincts. They followed him as he led them towards a thick patch of undergrowth.

As they drew closer, they heard the sound of soft mewing, coming from a small bundle of fur hidden in the brush. Bjorn approached cautiously, his hand outstretched.

Suddenly, the bundle of fur sprang to life, revealing itself to be a small black kitten with bright green eyes. The kitten hissed and spat at Bjorn, its tiny claws unsheathed.

But Bjorn was undeterred. He gently picked up the kitten, holding it close to his chest. "Well, hello there," he said, his voice soft and gentle. "What are you doing out here all alone?"

As if in response, the kitten nuzzled against Bjorn's chest, purring contentedly. Geralt and the others watched in amazement as the fierce and stoic Cat Witcher was transformed into a gentle and caring caretaker.

They continued on their journey, with Bjorn cradling the kitten in his arms. As they walked, he told them of how he had always loved cats, ever since he was a child.

"Most Witchers prefer the company of wolves or bears," he said. "But for me, cats have always been my companions."

Geralt and the others listened with interest, intrigued by this unexpected aspect of Bjorn's personality. They had always known him as a fierce and skilled warrior, but this glimpse into his softer side was a revelation.

As they approached the mage's stronghold, however, Bjorn's attention turned back to the task at hand. He gently set the kitten down in a safe spot, where it could rest and play without danger.

The Cat Witcher led the way, his movements swift and sure as he scanned the area for any signs of danger. Geralt and the others followed close behind, their weapons at the ready.

They soon came to a heavily guarded gate, with armed soldiers patrolling the perimeter. Geralt and the others hung back, scanning the area for a way to bypass the guards.

But Bjorn had a different idea. He approached the guards, his movements smooth and fluid as he engaged them in conversation. At first, the guards were suspicious, but Bjorn's natural charm and quick wit soon won them over.

They lowered their guard, allowing Bjorn and the others to slip past unnoticed. The Cat Witcher had used his love of cats to gain their trust, and it had worked perfectly.

As they made their way deeper into the mage's stronghold, however, they soon discovered that their task would be more difficult than they had anticipated. The mage had powerful magical defenses in place, with enchanted wards and spells that made it almost impossible to penetrate his inner sanctum.

But Geralt and the others were not deterred. They knew that they had each other, and with their combined strength and skill, they were determined to overcome any obstacle that stood in their way.

As they prepared to face the mage's powerful magic, Bjorn reached into his pocket and pulled out a small object - a cat's eye gem, gleaming in the dim light.

"This was my father's," he said, holding the gem up to the light. "He gave it to me before he died, to remind me of the power of cats."
