They all laughed when Alec trembled in fear. Tears were already on the verge of falling. He tried hard to hold them but failed. His eyes were misty, but the kids laughed instead.

And though they were not sure about the adoption thing, they were worried that the child's emotions would be hurt. He was not at fault, it was all Mary's fault.
