"I want you to investigate her. Her name, her family, her friends.. Where she lives, what she eats, whom she meets and whatever happens in her life since she has been born. I want to know everything about her." he warned Kevin who sighed and nodded his head.
The eyes of Cassian lacked warmth even when he felt that the child had the same eyes of his late wife. His heart did not melt.
He had seen a lot of children with the same eyes too. His dark raven hair was just like him and his golden eyes were just like Aurora.
Even the maids could feel the striking similarity but they did not dare to make noise in front of the duke who could kill them for just whispering.
Since the lady had left, the place had died slowly and withered away. They looked at the child with hope when Cassian walked back to his study.
He looked at the files on his table with sunken eyes and started working on them as if nothing had happened but the look of his eyes had changed.

In the room,
Mary stared at the designs with a frown when the maid entered with snacks and tea. Alec was sitting on the sofa and dangling his feet for passing time.
"Is that the room he wants me to live in?" she asked as soon as the maid entered, shocking the poor girl who was taken aback by the question but still nodded her head.
"Yes, my lady. Do you not like the room?" she had asked only perfunctory but Mary nodded her head instantly.
"Of course, not! What is there to like?" she asked back, "can you see the quality of the wood! It is cedar wood, not even oak or mahogany, if not maple wood." she remarked and then looked at the walls. "And they only silver leaves for decoration with no gold or rare gems.
Even if I ignore all that since I am not a greedy person. The room looked so dull with dark colors. It will not suit the aesthetics of the child." she shook her head with disappointment when the maid felt at the loss of words.
"Umm, i did not have the right to decide over it. Why don't you write your demands in the letter and I will take it to the head maid. Then we can see what we can do!" she offered when Mary paused for a second and then smirked.
"That would not be needed. I am not going to stay here for long anyways. But if you want to help, I have a letter for Cassian. I was not able to finish my conversation with him earlier." She walked towards the table and opened the second last drawer and took out some parchments from it, surprising the maid who flinched.
Though there might be a chance that she had searched for the papers but to find everything in the room perfectly in such a short amount of time was impossible. Just how?
Though not much, she had heard from Kevin that she was an oracle. Could it be true?
The girl gulped as she placed the tea on the table and walked towards Mary with the pretense of taking the letter.
"Umm, my lady. Is it.. Is it true that you are a seer?" she asked in a low and soft voice trying her best to sound sweet when Mary smirked and nodded her head without a bit of hesitation.
She was enjoying the role. She did not need to make excuses for using the information she knew from the novel again and again.
For example, this room! This is the same room given to Kayla when she had claimed that she knew about the whereabouts of the late duchess and her child.
She was kept here for a week until she was hanged to death for her lies. She had written the last letter to the conspirators from here. So Mary knew where the letter was and about the things used in decorating the room.
And this girl! Either there are limited characters, or Mary was very lucky to have this maid serving her.
"Of course, do you have any doubt, Daisy?" she asked with arrogance when the maid froze.
She was sure that she had not told the name of the lady before.
"My lady.. I.. I mean Lady Oracle." Daisy could feel her body shivering with excitement, "can i ask you a question?"
"Hmm, let me guess.. Is it about the boy you are seeing these days, Matthew?" she asked as she tapped her fingers on the table playfully enjoying the game and the attention she was getting here.
It was better than the gossip she had in her college.
"Yes, yes, my lady. Mathews had told me that he was going to marry me, but I am not sure since he had never talked to my family about it or asked me to leave the job." her eyes were shivering but her voice was filled with worry when Marry grinned.
That was her favourite part. Since the story was dark and full of gore. She had always enjoyed the small love stories of the side characters. And Daisy was one of them."
"Hmm, give me your hands and let me see!" Daisy nodded her head as she wiped her hands again and again with her dress as if she could change her fate by that process and then gave it to Mary but her hands were still shivering with fear of the unknown but excitement too.
"Mmm, let me see! Your love line is very dark and clear and your eyes are clear that shows you are a kind soul. That boy Mathews.."
"Yes, yes my lady." she could not bear the suspense anymore as her voice trembled when Mary said..
"Aah! I can only work if I eat something. I am feeling dizzy. Why don't you bring me food then I will tell you when he was going to bring the ring to propose to you."
