Aliyah and I were about 50 metres away from the town now and I could now see farmers out in the wheat fields.
It seems that they're taking care of the wheat and harvesting what they can. It is the time that people would still be harvesting wheat about now.
I don't think I'll even get over how beautiful the fields look. The town also looks absolutely brilliant.
The houses are made with a sort of old fashioned style of building that you'd see in parts of Europe.
As we got up closer to the town, I noticed a gate. It's probably there to keep out monsters.
"Hey, Aliyah? I want to spend a few days in this town. You know, to take a proper break from all of that walking." I said.
Aliyah looked down at me and said, "Yeah. I think that'd be nice for a little while."
-[At the Town's Gate]-
There was one person at the gate, presumably guarding it.
The gatekeeper saw us approaching and said, "Halt! State your business with this town."
We then walked up to the gate and Aliyah said, "We just exited the forest right there and we were hoping to spend a few days here to rest."
The gatekeeper looked slightly suspicious of us but I guess that's normal. The gatekeeper then said, "Alright. I'm Han by the way. But I must worn you. Half of this town is under lockdown due to an illness that has plagued us."
I then said, "An illness? How long ago did it the symptoms start to appear?"
Han then stroked his chin and said, "If I remember correctly, the earliest symptoms of the unknown illness appeared about two weeks ago."
So it's still relatively new, huh? Hey Gem? Would we be able to help them in any way?
[Answer: Yes. Whilst healing magic might help alleviate the symptoms for a small amount of time, you could possibly look for what is plaguing this village.]
I do want to help them! I then said, "I think maybe we could help find out what caused this illness to start. Would you let us help?"
Han then said, "Well, the thing is...that's not up to me. If it was? I'd let you two help us out. But you'll have to talk to the mayor of this town."
The mayor, huh? It doesn't seem too much like a problem to meet them. Hopefully they're not an asshole.
"Would that be alright? You know, talking with the mayor?" I asked.
Han then said, "Yeah. As long as I show up with you, you'll be allowed to talk with the mayor."
I then said, "Well then, let's not waste anymore time."
Han nodded his head 'yes' and began opening the gate to the town. The gate is opened by a rope that is connected to some type of machine that reels in the rope and keeps it in place.
It's quite a simple yet cool mechanism.
Han got down from the lookout post on the top of the gate and began walking towards us. Han then said, "Now, please follow me."
He began walking into the town and we followed him in close pursuit. It seems that this side of the village hasn't been affected yet.
People are walking freely about on the streets without any worries of catching the mysterious illness.
"Woah. Look at all of these nicely built houses and buildings!" said Aliyah.
It seems that she also has taken a liking to the type of building style they use. That's another thing her and I have in common!
Han kept leading us further into the town until we reached a big building. The way it looks makes me think of the White House...if it was smaller.
Hans walked up to the door of the building and opened it. "We're here." said Han.
Aliyah and I walked inside of the building and I was immediately immersed in all of the fancy things inside.
There were some really nice chairs and tables with a few paintings mounted on the walls.
We kept walking towards the middle of the lobby and there was a woman sitting at a desk. She sort of reminds me of Denise.
"Who are they, Han?" asked the desk clerk.
Han then said, "They're travellers. They said that they would like to try and help determine what is causing the illness. And they need permission from the mayor to go to the infected zone."
The desk clerk then said, "Well hopefully they don't let us down. After they're done taking with the mayor, bring them down to Jiro's. Maybe they can also help him."
Han then smiled and said, "Will do."
After that little interaction, Aliyah and I were guided farther into the building. I guess I should call it a town hall though?
We were brought to a door that looked a lot fancier than the rest of them. Han then said, "Please be respectful and don't make the mayor mad. Please. Just don't."
Sounds like the mayor as a temper problem.
The door was then opened by Han and Aliyah and I stepped inside. The door was quickly shut behind us.
There was a man sitting at a desk farther into the room. "Oh? I thought I didn't have any appointments today. What brings you two here today?" said the man.
I saw a nameplate on his desk and it read: "Mayor; John Johnson".
I then stepped forward and said, "Good afternoon, Mayor Johnson. We have come to discuss the matter of your town's random illness."
The mayor then said, "Well, I'll be. Ain't you a bit young to be doing stuff like that?"
It pissed me off hearing that but I can't piss off the mayor. I then said, "With all due respect sir, I'm sorry if my age is too young to be of use."
The mayor then said, "Oh. Well, it's alright. So, what exactly do you want to help with here in my town?"
I then said, "We heard about the illness and how it came to randomly appear. I found that very peculiar so I decided to take a look into what could've happened. Hopefully you will let us help you, right?"
The mayor then placed his hand on his chin and said, "Well, I'm not opposed to recieving some help on that matter. But you would need to go into the infected area to investigate the potential cause. I don't want you to get sick. I'd be responsible for that."
Well, he's not wrong. But I would like to help this town recover. "It'll be fine. I'll wear a mask to try and keep myself from getting infected. Some gloves would also work well against it. I don't know if the illness is airborne or is related to contact, saliva, or copulation."
The mayor gave it some thought. He then said, "Well then, I guess that would work? My only condition is that you take your...mother? Or whoever she may be with you for safety reasons."
I then smiled and said, "Of course I'll take her with me. And she is my mother!"
Aliyah smiled hearing me say that and it honestly made me happy as well.
And so, Aliyah and I have begun investigating the cause of the random illness. And the only place to start is by asking the locals!
My brain is melting aaaaaaaa
