"I did not mean to go this far," Maximilian calmly spoke, his gaze serious as he met King Edrucel's eyes who still looked confused. The man must be wondering what he was doing in his room in the middle of the night.

Then Maximilian continued. "I understand that Her Highness Tricia only wanted to make sure that my wife is safe, but… the enemies of the crown would probably think otherwise. Why would a demon princess leave guards outside the abode of a Vampire Prince and his wife?"
