Chapter 61: Priority

Despite the throbbing pain in her back, Eve pressed forward with determined steps. The bond she shared with Pain had exacted its toll, weakening not just her magic but her physical strength.

Taking a moment to steady herself, she leaned against the wall of the cave. Then she focused, extending her senses.

The faint indication of an individual nearby made her frown.

Her fingers then tightened around the hilt of her sword, preparing for any sudden threat that might emerge from the darkness. Her heightened senses allowed her to perceive the stillness emanating from the woman up ahead. It struck her as odd because she hadn't sensed the woman's presence before. 

A flicker of vigilance danced in Eve's eyes as she cautiously approached.

The presence of the motionless figure grew stronger, indicating her proximity. However, the area remained shrouded in darkness, preventing her from discerning any details.
