The second the pickup pulled into the driveway I was rushing down the steps and jumped on Jack the second he was out of the car. My heart wouldn’t stop racing in my chest and for the first time since being back, I felt like I could breathe again. The relief of seeing him again was so overwhelming it almost felt crippling. As if nothing had really mattered until he was back…

Guilt and shame threatened to make my knees buckle and instantly I felt tears prick at my eyelids. Shit! Why did I turn out to be such a cry baby?!

I hated it!

Hated this weakness inside of me…

Jack tried to muffle a painfilled groan, as he wrapped his arms around me. Shocked I pulled back and took a first real look at him. And gasped when I saw the state, he was in.

“He hurt you?” I gaped, and even more guilt washed over me. Oh, of course, I’d been so wrapped up in my own shit, I hadn’t even realized how hurt he was.
