The first was to state that the captive was still not awake so it could explain the lack of noise being made.

The second was to do as she had done and state that the captive had been gagged to prevent them from making noise.

She made use of that reason to convince James but it was not without faults.

Even when gagged, a person could still make noise if they really tried whether it was screaming through the gag or using their body to create noise to draw attention to themselves.

The other reason that she could have used did not work in the current situation.

The reason was that the captives had become quiet after being beaten or experiencing something that would make them lose hope or submit to their captors.

Ash had already stated to James that Cal and others had captured her but they had yet to do anything to her since they were waiting for James to arrive.
