Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Tactical drills for rangers

Not knowing she had escaped a disaster, Sena continued her performance, which Lireesa selectively tried to forget her existence. Mother and daughter enjoyed the moment together without worrying about anything else. Lireesa doted on Alleria and lamented the differences of the behavior and voice with the character in the game. What harsh reality had pushed her nearly into the abyss. Lireesa could only convinced herself, it was her and the Windrunner family.

Sena tried her best to ponder Lireesa's idea and how effective it would be during combat. It seemed to her the result should be outstanding, yet this implementation hadn't been proven. Glancing beside the two loving family members, she couldn't prevent herself from hitting Lireesa on the shoulders and complained.

"Hey! Important issue comes first," Sena yelled at Lireesa who was a bit surprised. "Stop dawdling around. You still need to explain other drills to me, because I figure out there are still many ideas left in your brain."

Lireesa wasn't strange how her friends knew her so much, because after living for many years, the experiences and struggles during this time period weren't for display. Noticing her friend's anxiousness, she listed other military drills useful for the time being: bounding, overwatch, and breaking contact.

Lireesa further described after noting Sena's eyes were still in confusion. "First, let's talked about the term bounding. It's the alternate advance techniques, where one element moves forward, while the other stay alert and protect the first element. Then, the first element stops and guards the surrounding, while the second moves forward. This operation is called bounding."

Sena's mouth turned into a big 'O', stunned by this novel method. She realized the benefits of using this bounding tactics. In an area where the threat level was high, this particular movement had brought the soldiers safety to a maximum and the efficiency of warriors' preparedness to the highest state. She quickly begged Lireesa to continue, but Lireesa coughed lightly and patted her chest. Annoyed and feeling funny, Sena quickly ran out and came in a moment later with a cup and a kettle, and pour the elven tea. She respectfully or at least she believed to be, presented her drink in order to sooth her Lord's sore throat.

Lireesa showed a look of as if it should always be, taking a sip and only after exhaling in contentment did she continue her speech. She said: "Overwatch is a term like many people understand, which means to have an element overseeing the area while the other will, let's say, make an assault or a movement. Similar to bounding in some areas, but overwatch is actually used during some real maneuver."

Sena understood the term overwatch very clearly, because it wasn't confusing where the word already said its meaning. She asked, "What about breaking contact? What's that supposed to mean?"

Lireesa clarified, "Contact meant the initial exchange with the enemy in this scenario. Break is simply to cut off from having an exchange going on with the enemy. So, break contact is to withdraw as a tactical maneuver without initiating retreat but to get out of an unfavorable position or situation. For instance, in the ambush or in an area where you'll be beaten no matter how you fight. The best suggestion there is to retreat. But break contact is the withdrawal drill. I'll later talk about that in the fields."

Sena nodded very satisfied discovering the new world especially the three drills seemed to be just born for their rangers. Sena eyes glowed green like the evil beings plotting despicable conspiracies and looked toward Lireesa with greed undisguised. Lireesa's hair shot up straight and alarm rang in her head. She already experienced the same feeling once during the training session with Sena and she didn't want to recall that moment. Rubbing her arms smoothing out the hairlines, she pretended to be calm but her glance betrayed herself.

Sena rubbed her hands wretchedly and smiled at her. "Hehe, I have a solemn request, my dear sister." She lowered herself and placed her hands on Lireesa's knee. Looking from above, Lireesa would've thought her childhood friend was kneeling to beg for her help. Worried, she moved her head to get a clearer view and found out she was just squatting.

"What's your request? Sena." Lireesa probed, having fear of what enigmatic plans Sena would next. She didn't dare to promise lightly; otherwise, she would be confused even when she was killed.

"It's nothing but a small task for you. Since, I've been serving as a deputy commander of the Windrunner legions, I've been responsible for their trainer. Now that, we have your new genuine ideas, I hope my sister can serve as an instructor before our offensive plan begins." Sena blinked her eyes flaunting her cuteness. Lireesa completely ignored her act.

She was relieved to hear Sena's thoughts and felt happy about her gentle approach but that wasn't really her. Yet, she deliberately didn't show any changes in the expression as if she was reluctant to convey out her inner thoughts. Sure enough, the whole change in terms of facial appearance and the momentum returned to domineering temperament, having the talent of completely winning the prize of Oscar. Still in the same position, she smiled evilly at Lireesa and said, "I still miss our training in the past days. That was the most exultant day of my life." Sena stressed the word 'training' inexplicably in a seductive tone.

No. Despicable. I don't want. Only for you the happiest, she cried silently, fortunately, this lady wasn't annoyed of having to train her subordinates.

Since Lireesa became the lord of Windrunner, she rarely in details took care of guards and home affairs, and delegated her position toward her two close-friends. She was busy dealing with political affairs and playing around in the noble's circle. Compared to being in war, noble circle appeared to be a safe haven unless one knew how deep the water was. They could kill you silently without a blade. The previous Lireesa had been dancing around those blades and luckily, the circle wasn't as corrupted and disharmonious as the human beings were.

Lireesa wasn't unhappy when she was being tasked, because who had anger when they knew they would be training beautiful women. She controlled her face not to smirk out. With her memory from the two life, the best instructor related to these drills was none other than Lireesa herself. Being an instructor to a recruit was completely different from veterans, where they had their own perspectives and digested the materials easily. Since they were all her subordinates, they didn't need to be asked to keep a secret. She believed Windrunners who came to serve her would all have absolute loyalty in addition to the extreme idolization of Lireesa and the name 'Windrunner'.

"Excellent," exclaimed Sena while clapping her hands in excitement. She hadn't seen Lireesa having apprentices or instructing someone. She wondered how her cute friend would behave. What's more she always loved watching the reluctant expression of Lireesa and found it appealing. Although Sena realized that Lireesa already knew about her thoughts and behavior, and seemed to not utterly reject her. She probably had a high chance of pursuing. Lireesa's character would definitely outright reject her if she knew it. In the past it was subtle and thought over just as a close friendship. But after waking up from coma, Lireesa now didn't even have a repulsive aura from her, especially when she made an approach.

Sena changed her passage of thoughts and said, "How come you recover so quickly?" She closed her mouth with her hand afterward with an apologetic face and wanted to correct.

"Hmph! I knew you would never have good thoughts about me." Lireesa wouldn't give her a chance. She must suppress this idiot from reaching out too much and disturbing the normal life. A lesson must be taught. "You never wanted me to recover. What traitorous ideas are still in your mind. Confess and I'll be lenient. Or else your life will be ravaged everyday and you know you cannot complain."

Alleria raised her hands helplessly and said in a complicated voice, "Mother, are you too much into play at the moment. I thought you were punishing Aunt Sena."

Sena also replied, "I'll be willing every day. I'm yours, milady." Her words along with her pecking nods seemed very persuasive. Lireesa really desired to sentence her, but any punishment which wasn't harsh could only merely satisfy Sena's vanity. Lireesa felt like hitting a cotton.

"Okay! I'm serious, you're a monster you know," Sena emphasized her astonishment. "Even if I want to recover all my strength from scratch, it will take me at least a month to be precise. I'm already thinking you are damn good when you say you'll fully recovered by 2 weeks."

Cute Alleria laying on Lireesa added her words, "Of course, my mother is the best warriors."

"Okay, it isn't anything, when compared to some changes that I will have after breaking through the legendary rank." Lireesa didn't make much of the topic, rubbing Alleria's head and playing her hair. Sena was really jealous at the moment and nearly fumed in anger when Alleria raised her eyes at her.

Not knowing the silent clash between her friends and her daughter, she almost forgot she hadn't relayed her experiences in the war with trolls to her daughter. Luckily, she hadn't leave my sight yet, she was relieved.
