Chapter 158: Slaying Genesis Source Expert
Ryker looked at his opponent with a calm gaze. His appearance differed from his opponent, who looked like he just ate too much spicy food, from how much he sweats.
'How long can he keep up the forbidden technique?!' the expert screamed in his mind. They had been holding each other back for nearly 2 hours yet there was no sign of his strength faltering, a sign of when the period of the technique would come to an end.
Even though he couldn't see what happening inside the city, he could feel the formation remain unrepaired, a sign the battle down there didn't go in the Esel Barony's favor, the opposite in fact likely happening.
However, as long as the expert remained there, blocking him, he couldn't do anything but maintain the stalemate. If he tried to attack the city, the enemy would likely take the chance to injure him, which could snowball to the point he was forced to retreat, leaving the enemy full reign over the city.
If he maintained the stalemate, however, then things would turn bad for them, as the defended inside the city would be defeated, making him holding his opponent back, a pointless endeavor.
The only option that would leave them a fighting chance is to attack and defeat the opponent, or at least force him to retreat and take control over the city and help his troops win the fight.
The only hard thing regarding the plan is that it would be hard to defeat the opponent as long as he could maintain the same power level as he is. 'Then again, even if he used some forbidden technique, he would burn his lifespan nonetheless so I could just keep the stalemate until that happened, "
Thinking about it more clearly, the Genesis Source expert decided to engage Ryker in combat. He unleashed a quick strike with his spear, one Ryker blocked using his sword, one given to him by the Baron.
While he didn't care much for the grade of weapon in his hand, he still accepted the Intermediate Grade Genesis Sword. While any weapon would do, the grade of the weapon would still help push his combat ability even higher.
The Genesis Source expert parried the attack, before countering it with a stab, one Ryker blocked with his arm, the appendage in question turning into stone. He was blown away by a little bit, though he remained unharmed.
Seeing how his attack did almost nothing, the Genesis Source expert wanted more than ever to continue his attack but common sense prevailed. 'Wait until the forbidden technique ends, then you can do anything you want with him,' he calmly thought to himself.
As for Ryker, he kept his vigilance, not planning to give his opponent a chance to strike down any of his men if he could help it. His eyes watched over them, making sure the expert couldn't undertake any such action.
The Genesis Source expert continued his attack, keeping the pressure but never overextending and making him vulnerable to a swift counter. Meanwhile, Ryker keeps his defense, not letting any attack fall on the city, waiting patiently for his men to finish their job.
As the sun began to dip, the Genesis Source expert began to feel antsy. While he believed his opponent couldn't maintain strength similar to him any longer, he now didn't know if it would be over before his men fell or not. From the looks of things, it might be the latter.
Such thought clouded his mind, leading him to make some mistakes due to how he began to make haste, trying to find an opening and beat the opponent in front of him. Alas, Ryker, despite being young, still had some experience fighting people in such a realm, as he had been a World Source realm expert for a short time.
He also had been in the Genesis Source realm so he knew what to expect. With how the man began to act, he would likely use his Source, the special ability every Genesis Source expert could use.
His thought was proven correct when the expert released a stream of his purified qi, the qi in question emitted a hint of Lightning, showing that the expert was someone who practiced a Cultivation Art related to the Law of Lightning.
Seeing how the man used his Source, both excited and worried him. Excite him because it meant his opponent would be desperate, and desperate people prone to make mistakes. Worried, as a cornered foe could cause greater harm if he believed there was nothing else to lose.
The stream of qi headed towards him, seemingly trying to submerge him into the river of lightning qi. Ryker remained on the defensive, creating a barrier with his qi, now infused with his Earth qi.
With a dome of earth qi, the lightning river, despite its imperious power, couldn't hope to even dent it, the defensive nature of Law of Earth shining through when needed the most.
"I'm glad I tried to master the Law of Earth," he said to himself, a truly wise investment, despite the plethora of Cultivation Art he could choose to master. Out of all the possible Path, he had already reached the Elementary Understanding of about 8 of them.
If such a feat is made known, most people would likely treat it as a rumor, though if it was truly confirmed, many powerful nations might seek him to get him to join their forces. So, it was better for him to remain relatively unnoticed.
His thought was broken when the expert began to commit to an equivalent of a mad dash, except for more blasting their opponent to oblivion. The expert didn't care for any injuries, just focusing on trying to harm and likely kill him.
The mad attack forced Ryker to be on the defensive even more as he could not let the expert get close enough to the city and end his troop. As he slowly pushed back to the city, he received a message from one of his men.
"We are done here, the city's defender is already dead!" smiling at the good news, Ryker decided he should end his fight as well.
"What?" were the only words the man could let out before Ryker began his onslaught. The sudden shift in his action forces the expert to retreat, his offensive broken by Ryker's action. However, Ryker didn't stop yet. With his men already finishing their part of the mission, it's only right for him to make things end in their favor.
"Let me give you a taste of this attack!" Ryker yelled, fire and water qi merging together and forming a maelstrom of water and fire. The opponent, realizing the danger he was in, tried to retreat but before he could get far enough, Ryker unleashed his attack.
"Hydro Pyro Strike!" he yelled, the attack heading towards the Genesis Source expert at tremendous speed. The expert tried to create a defense but it was easily destroyed.
"Noooo!" he yelled, before disappearing, the blast obliterated his body except for his left hand.
