Justice League
I leaned back on a surprisingly comfortable chair and let my thoughts drift. I guess the Justice League actually wanted people to enjoy their waiting room, right before meeting them.
I admit I was slightly nervous, but who wouldn't be when you were about to have a meeting with beings with enough power to contend with Gods.
When the door on the opposite wall creaked and finally opened. A familiar beard poked it's way out, followed momentarily by the face of Green Arrow.
"Hey, Blackwood, We're ready for ya."
I quirked an eyebrow, staring at him for a second. "Sure thing."
Upon entering the room, I was greeted by a small panel of faces that even to a casual reader such as myself were fairly familiar.
Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Arrow, and Superman sat in a row, and it took me a second to realize that I'm in what appeared to be a smaller meeting room themed after the main one.
I entered, sitting down in the seat opposite the long table, as they all looked at me. Some examined me with interest, others graced me with a smile, while some had impassive faces. Yeah, you could probably guess who the last one was.
The colorful scheme of their costumes ranging from reds to blues to greens and even black, made for an eye catching sight. My eyes drifted towards the three who were looking at me most intensily. Superman, Wonderwoman and Batman. My eyes lingered a bit on Superman as I recalled his work place escapades with Miss Lane, but quickly shook my head to get rid of those thoughts. Luckily Martian Manhunter wasn't here, otherwise I'd be screwed.
I heard a chuckle from the left, " It seems someone's a big fan." The man who was mostly certainly the Flash said.
" So.. What's going on? Am I in trouble?" I asked.
They all chuckled, and I even saw Batman smirk a bit.
" On the contrary. In fact we were discussing your progress and the work you have been doing in for the past few weeks." Wonderwoman said.
" Dinah and Giovanni speak very highly of you." Superman added.
" Thank you. I couldn't have done it without their help. " I said.
" Even so, they tell me you're progressing very quickly in your martial training and that you're improving in the use of your powers as well as your other activities. " Superman said.
According to Dinah I have been progressing quickly and what took me weeks to learn in martial arts would typically take others months to accomplish I suspect the talismans weren't the only advantages I got on my arrival. Since, I remember Jackie Chan being a very talented martial artist.
That or I was a once in a lifetime martial arts genius. Frankly I didn't particularly care how it happened just that it did.
I waited for him, to continue since it seemed there was more to be said.
" We're putting together another team. It will primarily consist of members of your age group and they could use someone like you. "
" Someone who could act as both their teammate and aid them if a need ever arises. " Wonderwoman added.
It seemed my efforts in trying to stay consistent with my hospital visits were both noted and appreciated, which bought me and the league a lot of goodwill. I still went to various hospitals every week with the league's support along with an escort.
Turns out the biggest issue with what I was previously doing was the fact I wasn't asking for permission, consent was a big thing with a lot of people so it was a good idea to make sure you were not liable to any lawsuits.
Now all my patients gave me their consent and signed a document that stated that we weren't liable for anything that may arise after the treatment. Most of them were already terminal patients and didn't mind it in the slightest. Still one had to be careful.
So, after a few visits to the Metropolis general hospital I started showing up at hospitals all over the world with the help of the Zeta-tube network.
Of course the league had to put out a statement that I could only use my powers of healing sparingly and implied that it had a cost and that my healing abilities had limits and could overtax my body.
Which in the end made it a lot less suspicious to the public and since healing was such a rare power, not many people questioned what they said.
" I'm definitely signing up, so when do I get to meet the team?" I asked.
" We will let you know beforehand, in the meantime you should stay focused on your training. You still have a lot of catching up to do." Batman said.
" Cool. So, is there anything else? I have training in like half an hour and if I'm late well..." I said.
They all chuckled, " We won't keep you anymore. You can go to your training." Wonderwoman said.
" Robin should be coming to the facilty in a few hours. He expressed his interest in meeting you after he found out about you." Batman said.
" You told him about me?" I asked, but at that he averted his eyes and it didn't seem he was going to answer.
" Let me guess, he was snooping on your computer and found Jason's file didn't he?" Flash said.
I raised an eyebrow," You have a file on me? "
" I have a file on everybody. " Batman bluntly said.
I snorted, " Nice to know I'm not special. Tell him I'll be waiting for him in the training area. I have some stuff I want to try out with my powers after I finish training with Dinah. "
With that I gave them a mock salute which drew another chuckle from them and I headed to the gym to warm up a bit.
(3rd POV)
" Certainly an interesting kid. " Flash said.
After Jason left Superman turned towards Batman and said," Batman are you sure about this? "
" I'm still investigating, it won't do him any good until we find out more. " Batman said.
" Still, they belong to him and I think he should know about what is happening . " Superman said.
" We still haven't determined their origins and there are no records of them anywhere in the world. I have asked Zatara to study them and I even tried to contact Dr. Fate to get his opinion on the matter. " Batman said.
They all still looked unsure.
" Still this could blow up in our faces and I don't like risking the good faith we have with him over this. Not telling him about our investigation of the talismans and not to mention what's happening in Gotham." Flash said.
" I don't think it would do him any good. Catwoman robbed every single cash house belonging to Falcone over the course of a few days. By the time I was able to track her down she had already liquidated everything she took. I investigated and unfortunately it doesn't seem we will be able to prove she took the money, especially since Falcone didn't have the money on any records. As far as the government is concerned that money doesn't exist. " Batman said.
" Which means all of Gotham will be on the hunt for Jason. " Wonderwoman grimly said.
" That's why him joining the team and absorbing the talisman's powers gradually is for the best. It will give us a chance to monitor him and make sure he does not stray off the path, as well as keep him safe. I've been getting reports that Falcone has been hiring several meta-humam criminals as muscle incase Zodiac shows up." Batman said.
" I still don't understand why he thinks it was Jason? The kid is practically mother theresea with all the good he's doing, why would he go and rob him? " Green arrow asked.
"My investigations reveal that Falcone thinks that Zodiac has been giving away the money to charity and using it to help people. I'm still unsure if it was Catwoman who was trying to frame him, or if it was another player in town. Still, I don't plan on this being an issue for long. I'm already compiling evidence against Falcone and I'm slowly chipping away at his control of the city. Know this. Gotham won't be his for long." Batman said.
That seemed to mollify them for now, and Batman briefly wondered if he was doing the right thing. It took him a bit of time to track Catwoman down and it's been a week ever since his conversation with her.
He admits maybe this wasn't his best decision, however among all the criminals in Gotham at least she was amiable. Well sometimes.
This didn't make things better as he eventually discovered that she was the one trying to frame Jason.
And, it's not like Falcone would believe him if he personally went up to him and explained the situation.
It wasn't all bleak though after a bit of bargaining and promising not to go after her, she gave him enough information on Falcone to help take him down and also promised not to reveal Jason's identity to anybody.
It didn't please him in the slightest, but if he went through with arresting and putting her into prison it could put Jason's life in danger. Not withstanding the fact the evidence he had against her was circumstantial at best and won't be enough in court.
After all, she knew the boy's identity and even though she would never reveal his own identity as Batman. Things wouldn't be the same for Jason.
Silver lining though she did mention she was going to leave Gotham.
Apparently she was opening up a Sanctuary for animals and was leaving her life behind for good, he just hoped that her words were true. Getting out of this life whether you were a villain or a hero was incredibly rare and few ever managed to do it.
