Chapter 11: Chapter 11. I like you
After walking for a distance, the trio were still silent and hadn't uttered a single word each with thoughts of their own. "Shawn...I think we need to talk.." Sydney said after arranging her thoughts. The wolf tilted his head to catch sight of the female, nodding he lowered himself so that she could get off his back.
"You two keep here. I'll go bring you food!" Caden said and walked away after giving a signal to the beastmen in the sky to look out for the duo. Transforming, he went to hunt.
Shawn transformed back to his human form but his ears and tail were droppy. He immediately reached for his skin skirt that Sydney passed him and found a rock where he urshered her to sit while he sat in the ground. Was she going to take back her deceleration from earlier... he'd surely become such a laughing stock!
"Is this how they've been treating you all this time?" she asked looking at Shawn who was nervously fiddling with his fingers. Why's she asking that? Does she not want to be associated with people who are mocked...was she abandoning him?
"Don't mind them. I'm used to this." he said with a sad smile. Honestly, he never was used to this, whenever that bad point on him was noted, it was just like a fresh wound everytime. His mother had loved him equally and no different from his other brothers but when it came to his father and brothers, it was a different case. When he was a cub, his father had abandoned him in the forest to be killed by the wild beasts but he somehow survived. His brothers would bully him with every chance they got and despite not liking that treatment, he loved that at least he wasn't some sort of freak who was ignored. If he could get to play with them, then he didn't mind their bullying one bit!
But that all changed when he grew up, he once fancied a female but he had kept those foreign feelings to himself. As he practiced to ask her the following day having hunt the best prey and gotten the best hides too, someone found that out and females came over along with the female he had liked. He was taunted and beat up by her other males and his hard work had been set to flames before his eyes.
From that day forth, he set his resolve to never want a female... luckily he wasn't yet too invested to loose himself but that wasn't the case with Sydney..despite not knowing how she looked like, her soft voice was imprinted into his mind and her scent became the air he breathed. He hoped against the god of beasts that she won't shun him too. He knew she was kind enough to stand up for him before the others but he wasn't sure she'd pull through with it. It was the intention that mattered the most..if he could stay by her side silently, then he wouldn't get so greedy!
Sydney who had called Shawn a number of times but couldn't get a response from him sat down next to him. His black hairs with a few white streaks had been ruffled by the winds. Taking hold of his hands in her own, Shawn was startled back to the present and focused his blind eyes on her. She brought his hands onto her face and used his own to cup her face. "I said what I said earlier because I wanted you to become a part of my family...I can understand if you already have someone you like...."
"I like you!" he cut in her words.
Sydney smiled. "I'm honoured. Now that we are family, I hope you won't mind what the outsiders say...let's just focus on us, alright?!" she asked.
Shawn nodded his head with a smile. "I'm sorry I'm lacking ...." he whimpered.
"Don't apologize about something you didn't have control over. I've chosen and you'll become my second mate....but, we have to first get to know each other better before we complete the whole mate process....is that okay?" she asked sheepishly.
"I'm okay with your every choice....I'm just sad I can't see your smile...." Shawn said what pained him the most. His world was shrouded in white bright light and that was as far as he could see.
"I'll help you see me " Sydney assured with a soft smile freezing the latter. "Trust me..." she smiled softly. His face spoke a lot of what he wished to say.
Caden returned with prey and a chunk of wood. "I'll go clean the prey!" Shawn said and asked Caden for the prey. Caden gave him the prey and turned to Sydney. He engulfed her in his arms, he couldn't believe for the time he had been gone, he was already missing her!
"Is something the matter?" she asked as she hugged him back.
"I missed you!" he muttered making Sydney shiver.
Stop being cheesy!!" Sydney said and drew from the man's arms with a red face and her heart dancing from within. Any woman would know how sweet it felt to be praised genuinely by a dashing male. Caden was very handsome and he was caring too. The way he held her made her feel like she was the most precious being in his life.
"You said you want to go play today...."
"It's not playing..it's working." she corrected him for the umpeth time.
"Why work?" Caden asked.
"Well, we will be building our own home and we will need the material." she said with a serious face.
"Don't think too much about it, tell me and Shawn what you want and we will get it all for you." he said and rubbed her head. "Be good, okay?" he scolded softly.
After the breakfast, the trio went down to look for the materials Sydney needed.
Night wolf tribe.
"What did you say?!!" Their king roared in displeasure.
His son who was seated away nonchalantly looked at the four wolves with displeasure. After getting news of what has transpired in the morning, the king was very displeased and angry. He looked back at his son whom he wanted to mate with the god sent female. He had seen how she was very beautiful and was soft spoken too, he was sure his son would've finally agreed to find a female but with the reckless acts of his tribesmen, the female had declared not to take in any male from his tribe as she had chosen the blind beastman!!!
Get that beastman here....I'll have him withdraw and let my son take that place! My son is better deserving! If he refuses to return them drag him here!" the king ordered.
No need father.... the female has already made her choice...." the prince said.
I don't give a damn! It has to be you! You have not gotten a chance to see that female...." the king said.
"Then let me see for myself...if I like her then know no one can stand in my way father. Relax...I'm sure the female would want someone as capable as me not Shawn." The prince smirked.
"Your Highness....The female is very specific about what she said!" the wolf who had taunted Shawn spoke in fear that his prince would worsen the already bad blood with the female.
