"Hey, which one of you is the number 4?" Lucas asks loudly.
"Lucy, here!" A girl with twin braids and glasses yells out. Lucas turns to her and quickly smiles.
"Christina! We're teammates again! By the way, this is Selena."
"I've heard," she says without looking at me.
"So Selena, we're basically doing a school tradition every first day. The whole afternoon will be used for a group activity. We have to complete a series of activities together before we can go home," Lucas explains.
"Mm, okay. Is this your version of a school tour?" I ask.
"Yes! Now that you say that, it IS!"
It seems as though he is full of happiness, totally the opposite of Spencer. I mean, opposites attract I guess.
"Class settle down. Pick a team leader and come here."
"You should go Selena, since it's your first day," Lucas replies.
"What? It's my first day, it'd be better for the leader to be you or maybe Christina," I say, looking at Christina's direction.
She looks me from head to toe and says, "A team leader is basically just a representative to take our first clue. We'll take the lead."
I nod and go to the teacher where Spencer is also at. Our eyes meet before I swiftly break it.
"Here. Take a piece of paper from this jar and don't open it until I tell you to. Each of you will have different locations but we all have the same location where everyone must gather before 4:30pm."
I take a piece of paper and go to my group. Lucas immediately goes to me and before I know it, he takes the paper from my hands and tries to open it.
"Lucas!"
I try to take it back but he is raising the paper above his head with a mischievous smile. Our group mates also try to take it alongside me but for some reason, I don't feel like it's for the same purpose as mine.
"I got it!" One of them say. I look at them in hope but the others proceed to ram on him like they were zombies. Their chase for the paper continues and I can't help but just stand there in confusion and awe.
I turn to Christina. I'm pleading for help using my eyes but she ignores me and continues to watch the others run around the classroom.
"Group 4! Stay still or I'll penalize you!" The teacher yells out. Unfortunately, it seems to have passed through their ears.
"Sigh, Group 4 can only go home at 5pm," the teacher says.
"What?" I audibly react however it seems as though I'm the only who cares about the penalty.
"That's enough."
All of the people in Group 4 stops when they hear Christina's voice. Like sulking puppies, they go back to our spot and sit still.
Sigh, what did I get myself into?
