Chapter 164: Many-named, part 2

As Cael watched, the horned beast's corpse, along with most of the spilled blood, gathered together, rapidly changing color, shape and size until it turned into a man-sized piece of black sludge.

Unlike Cael, who wanted to see what the thing was going to do next, Ginevra was having none of it.

"<From the depths of winter's domain, I summon the power of the freezing gale. Let it leave my fingers with the force of a blizzard and engulf my foes, turning their hearts to ice!>"

She launched her Empowered Ice Nova at the sludge. Under the force of the frost magic, the air in front of Ginevra filled with icy mist, and the floor covered in rime. At first, so did the sludge.

But the damage was skin-deep. The sludge kept changing, leaving its frozen parts behind like an eggshell. In another second, where it was, a completely different creature stood.

It was a blue bird the size of a cat with a plumage of cyan feathers on its forehead and a long, sharp beak.
