After leaving my new recruits, I went in search of Talia. She hadn't been in her office, nor anywhere else the multitude of new demons were coalescing. There were so many of them. So many more people in this castle that was supposed to be the home I shared with my wife.

I ignored most of them, hurrying through the halls to find Talia and see if she was OK. Something told me she was hurting, that she was in pain. She needed me, and I needed her. It was the bond between us, I knew it was. It was telling me that she was hurting or in danger. Something was wrong.

I searched the dining rooms, the kitchen, the library, our bedroom, everyone. It was only there, when I was in our private quarters, that I sensed she was nearby. And I caught the faintest whiff of her scent. A fresher trail than all the others.
