Chapter 9: Chapter 9- Lyssa – Change Can Be Good (VOLUME 1)

*~*Lyssa's POV*~*

I had not expected that I would be moving just before classes were due to start, but I think that this was for the best. I was feeling a little overwhelmed with how things were at the house. It was a little crowded in a way. And I was still trying to heal with Warrick being gone.

A lot of people told me that I needed to get over Warrick, that he was never coming back and that he wasn't truly my mate. They just didn't understand it. He was my mate, but my fathers had severed our connection. They did that to spare me the full brunt of the emotions I would have felt in Warrick's absence. And I knew that he was coming back, that wasn't the issue. No, the problem was, would I be able to forgive him when he did come back? Would I be able to trust him?

Alexa didn't really think that I should. She told me that he was a bad man and that he deserved to be in prison with the other Jaegan that had not been killed in the attack on the castle. She thought that he was a horrible person that had tried to hand me over to his family so that they could murder me. She didn't understand at all.

Even though Alexa and I were twins, though not carried in the same womb, we were very different people. And, like I said, it's not like we were in the womb together, if you can call it an actual womb. You see, we were conceived magically, and our process of being born was not normal.

Twenty years ago, when we were conceived, it was our dad Shawn that got pregnant first. He and our papa Dietrich didn't know that it was a possibility, but apparently it's a thing among the nonhumans that form a same sex coupling. Right after our Dad got pregnant, he got Papa pregnant. Both had twins, but they ended up being pregnant with one half of each of the magical sets of twins. So, Dad had carried me and Luka, while Papa had carried Alexa and Levi. It was all strange and hard to explain, so most people didn't know the truth.

Also, it was hectic at the house at the moment because since Dad and Papa were made into Gods, they were given more powers. And one of those abilities was that the once in a lifetime magical baby thing was able to be repeated. Dad was pregnant again with twin girls. They were due this November, along with a lot of other babies that were coming in our community. That was something else that tended to happen. Whenever Aunt Trinity got pregnant and had a baby, there was an explosion of babies with the people close to her.

There had been a lot going on in my life lately, in all our lives. That change wasn't all bad though. I couldn't wait to meet my new little sisters, even though I would be almost twenty when they were born. And I was happy that my dads had adopted the boys, Carsten and Casper. They were sweet and such great additions to the family. The two of them and my four other siblings, Luther, Fauna, Bret and Ember, were all adopted because our parents thought that having more kids wasn't an option for them. Well, that was different now.

I was going to be a sophomore in university this year. I was going to need to pick where I wanted to do internships and things like that. I was going to need to study more things. And I would end up taking classes that my friends weren't in. We were separating now, and that was fine, but it was a little scary at times too.

"Lyssa!?" My sister called from somewhere in the back of the apartment. "Where is my bag?"

"Which bag?" I asked her as I headed off in the direction of her voice. I started to step through the shadows as I went, walking from one dark spot to another. It was a part of being a vampire, or even a half vampire like my sister was. That had been another thing that was different about us. I was a full vampire, and our brother Levi was a full werewolf. Alexa and Luka were both hybrids. They both had a wolf form, and I didn't. However, all of us except Levi could walk through shadows like this. It was strange how genetics made us all different even when we looked the same.

"My new school bag I got when we went shopping." Alexa called out to me, a little anxious to get things ready.

"It's in your closet." I knew where it was, so I just started to shadow walk to it. I sort of came out of the closet right as she opened the door. The thing about shadow walking is, you can't really hear someone when they are doing it. And their scent does not precede them into the area, so you will actually not know when they are going to pop up. And consequently, you can scare the shit out of your sister with it. "Here you go." I said as I held the bag out to her.

"OH MY FUCKING GODDESS!" She screamed as she nearly fell backwards away from the closet. "Don't do that!" She yelled at me. "I hate when you pop up out of nowhere like that."

"Like you've never done it to me." I laughed at the shock on her face and the pounding of her heart. I could hear it plain as day.

"I don't do it on purpose." She had her hand on her chest, trying to calm herself down.

"Well, I didn't plan on scaring you, I just knew where it was." I shrugged my shoulders and set the bag down on the bed. "Anyway, you almost ready? School starts in two days."

"Yeah, I know." She grinned at me. "I can't wait to see how things go. I mean, people have gotten more used to the idea of us, right? So, there should be a little less tension than there was back in the spring." She was thinking the same things as I was, and that was good. We may be different in a lot of ways, but we did have a lot of things in common.

"Do you think that we will meet anyone new?" Alexa was one of the ones that thought that I needed to get over Warrick. And I knew that she had a reason for saying that. She hated seeing me moping all the time. She didn't want her sister to be sad. And that was why I started to try and hide it from her. I didn't want her to know that I cried over him almost every night. It was like there was a giant hole in my heart, and I didn't know how to fill it back up.

"We might." She leapt onto the bed with me and laid like she was about to get into a long talk. "We have so much time in the world, but that doesn't ever stop me from wanting to find my mate sooner rather than later. I hope that I find them and that they accept me." She looked nervous. I knew what she was feeling, I had felt it too, last year, before I had met Warrick.

"It will be just fine, sis. And I know that they will accept you. You're an amazing person." She was, she was just stubborn at times, at least when it came to me. When she was with others, she was often really shy.

"Thanks." She hugged me and pressed her cheek against mine. There was always a sort of closeness that we felt with each other when we were together. It was more of that magical twin thing, and I didn't mind it at all. I liked that she was with me when I needed her the most.

We spent the rest of the next two days making sure that the house was in order and getting ready for classes to start. We were also trying to learn how to take care of ourselves. It was a lot harder than we had thought. And the first few times that we had tried to cook we burned the food really bad. We were getting better though, with each time that we made a new meal.

We were within walking distance of the school, if we wanted to walk for twenty minutes, which we didn't mind, so most of the time, we would be going on foot. And so were our brothers and Reagan. That meant that we would be walking in together all the time. Rika was the only one that needed to drive, unless she wanted to walk for a little longer. I also couldn't wait to see her, we hadn't hung out much this last week with getting the new places in order. I needed to go to her place, and she needed to come to ours. It was exciting, having our places that we could visit like that. So many changes, good and bad.

During the walk to the university on the first day, we talked about Talia, Luther, and Fauna. They would be getting driven into school by our dads, and Talia by her guard Alexio. Our group had gotten bigger, especially once you add that Talia's friends, Sereia, Storm, and Saylor were coming with us as well. So many more people to meet and get to know. What fun.
