Chapter 24: Trip to the desert biome

A few days passed, and I was able to enchant my iron tools, doing this isn't the best option, but I didn't waste that much xp on it, it was as good as it gets since I didn't have much luck finding more diamonds. It would probably help if I went deeper into the mines though because I've heard of a new place, the deep dark biome, or lush caves. I've never been there in the game because I stopped playing ages ago, but now that I'm stuck here I might as well learn more about it, but mining isn't my main focus today, I wanted to complete my experiment, and in order to start the main process, I personally need one more thing, cactus, I will explain why I need it later, however, there isn't a desert that nearby, so I'm gonna need to make a long trip in order to get what I need, luckily I was able to get a map to the desert from one of the other villagers I helped a while back, alright, that's enough personal exposition about where I'm going, time to hit the road.

I leave my room and walk passed the main lobby of my base, I could see Teles resting on the custom couches I crafted, glad those things are a success.

"I'm going out to the desert biome, did you want to come with me?" I asked Teles. How teleportation works with enderman is that they can only travel if they see the place, or if they had already been there, I'm not sure if she had ever been to the actual desert before, but it could really save me some time.

"I think I'll just stay here today, this past week has been exhausting," Teles responded

"ah alright then, I will be back soon." I didn't want to bother her, a lot has been going on, and everyone needs to just rest every now and then, and I couldn't really tell Teles about the hot springs I made because well, ender-people can't really enjoy the water without getting hurt.

As I got my last-minute items together, I hear a knock at the door, I, of course, went to see whos there. Hmm, what do ya know, it was Rei, finally showing up again at my base.

"oh hey Rei, what brings you here" I greeted, seems like she had something to say to me.

"umm hey, I just came to apologize for the way I jumped to conclusions a few days ago" Rei apologized. "I know you just meant well."

"Naw it's cool" I responded, Rei seemed a little at ease now, good!

"say, there is still a lot I want to know about you, I'm making a long trip to the desert today, how would you like to join me?" I offered

"the desert!?!? I will literally die if I go there" Rei exclaimed to me

Oh yeah, Skeletons burn during the day, I guess the only reason Rei is able to talk to me in the first place is that there is shade by my door, despite the human appearance she still has the properties of a skeleton mob, and the desert has zero shade, she would just be exposed to the sun.

Then it occurred to me. "THAT'S IT!!!" I said aloud, Rei had a confused look on her face

"come inside" I pulled Rei in to take her to my enchantment room. We walked past Teles who was still resting, I decided to introduce the two of them while here.

"Hey Teles, this is my friend Rei, I'm showing her my enchantment setup," I said

Teles looked a little surprised at first, but she happily greeted Rei. I guess finding other demi-monsters was still considered rare, for it didn't take long for Teles to figure out Rei was a skeleton girl. Rei herself also greeted Teles nicely and they chatted for a little while, I guess Rei was also amazed that I befriended another monster who was also an enderman that was able to become somewhat human again. (hope they are cool with each other) Afterward, I brought Rei to my enchantment room, she continued to look confused.

"An enchantment table? I don't get it," she said

One way a zombie or skeleton won't burn during the day is if they are wearing a helmet, it technically blocks them from the sun, now I didn't want rei walking around with an iron helmet the entire time if I don't have to, but I had a plan, I can see her bow hairpiece could work as headwear, but it's not enough to block her from the sun, but if I can enchant leather caps on the table, then I bet any clothing could work, and if this test doesn't work out, I will try something different.

"Now this is gonna be a gamble, but, can I borrow that bow your wearing?" I said

"huh? what are you trying to do?" Rei questioned

"come on, just do it..." I responded

Rei gave in and handed me the blue bow that was in her hair, took the hair bow and put it on my enchantment table, I also took out some lapis from my inventory to activate the enchantments,

First attempt, blast protection, no no not what I want...

I put the bow on my grindstone to reset it back to its original state, I also got some xp back from it.

Second attempt, protection II, good enchantment but it's not what I'm looking for, back to the grindstone.

Third attempt, PERFECT just what I was looking for, ah, and a bonus enchantment (sometimes you get multiple enchantments than just the one you selected) I got Fire protection and unbreaking II onto the bow.

"Alright, here ya go! Put this on" I said to Rei handing her hairpiece back. She still looked confused though, I guess she never learned about enchantment tables.

"Now go out into the sun," I commanded

"umm I don't know..." Rei hesitated

"This is bound to work, and if it doesn't I have a water bucket in my hands on standby in case things go south," I reassured while pushing her out the door.

"WAIT WAIT GAH- huh?"

I see Rei standing in the sun, with no shade around, but one thing that's different is she isn't being set ablaze, as if there was no sunlight at all. I see her in total awe, total shock, she can't believe what is happening at this very moment.

"I see it's working" I walked up to her confidently

"w-what did you do!??!" Rei questioned

"I put fire protection enchantment on your bow, and it acted like an armor piece! You won't be set on fire as long as you have it on!" I explained.

Now of course if you'd debate if this would actually work, I don't wanna question this because hair bows don't exist in-game Minecraft, but you know me, I love to use exploits in this world, and it seems like this one is a winner!

Rei looked overjoyed, she seemed at a loss for words, finally being able to walk around freely in daylight. Who wouldn't love that!?!?!

"Thank you...." She said, "I guess this means I can actually go to the desert biome now...."

"heh, alright then, let's roll, we have a long hike ahead of us," I said

"hmm actually, I have something that will get us there faster!" she said, she took me through her secret tunnel and we ended up a little deep in the forest, and near her tunnel, I see a horse tied up near a tree, but it wasn't any ordinary horse, IT WAS A SKELETON HORSE!!!

Skeleton horses are pretty rare mobs, they don't burn during the day, and they aren't hostile as long as they don't get struck by lightning, besides that they are basically like any normal horse except just a skeleton.

Rei walked over to it and pets the skeleton horse, it seems she had it for quite some time.

"We can ride to the desert on Cash here!" She explained to me. I didn't know 2 people could ride a horse at the same time, but I guess that was just a game mechanic on the game, I guess you could do it differently here.

Rei then mounts Cash the skeleton horse "what are you waiting for? hop on!" she said giving me a hand. I mount the horse and give Rei the map I had that lead to the desert, we then proceeded to make our way to the desert.

You know, I still haven't heard anything about Rei's past, I think while we have a long trip I might ask her about it. As we rode through the forest on her skeleton horse, I decided to work my way into getting her to tell me, surprisingly she decided to open up to me more, and started to tell the origins of the skeletons, her tribe, and how she became like this. Here we go! Getting her to tell me this took a while, but realistically I guess you don't just walk around parading your origins to people. I told her

"Now of course you don't have to share anything that makes you uncomfortable," I warned her

"It's okay, all of this is really important, if you have the ability to perform miracles like stopping me from burning in daylight, I think telling you this could really help everyone," Rei responded

She began to tell me her story...
