Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Vs Ash
"Let the battle begin."
"Growlithe, I choose you."
"Pikachu, show them who's the best."
"Pika Pi."
"Woof."
Both trainers chose their Pokemon, and the electric mouse took the field, followed by the orange puppy.
Aeron looked at the yellow mouse, and an image of Pichu appeared in his mind. He shook his head before focusing on the battle.
"Growlithe?" Nessa frowned at Aeron's choice. "Are you sure? It doesn't have any move at Beginner-stage."
Everyone was surprised at that, but Aeron dismissed it.
"My aim is for it to learn rather than win." Aeron looked at the orange puppy, excited about its first battle. "Let's have fun."
"Woof."
"Pikachu, let's start with [Quick Attack]," Ash said the first command and Aeron followed it with his own.
"Growlithe, try [Tackle]."
Normal-type Energy surrounded the electric mouse before it ran toward Growlithe at a breakneck speed.
Growlithe tried to do the same while running toward the incoming Pikachu. It attempted to gather Normal-type Energy but failed at it. The electric mouse slammed its body into the orange puppy, sending him flying backwards.
"Woof..." It got up from the ground and shook its head. "Woof."
Aeron looked at his Pokemon and repeated. "[Tackle]."
"Woof." The orange puppy once again ran toward Pikachu while trying to gather Normal-type Energy in its body.
"Pikachu, dodge and use [Thunder Shock]."
The electric mouse easily dodged the orange puppy before firing a bolt of Electric-type Energy.
"Pika...Chuuuuuu!"
"Awoooo."
Growlithe winced in pain when hit by a [Thunder Shock]. Its body sizzled with the aftermath of Electric-type Energy left from the move.
"Pikachu, finish this with a [Quick Attack]."
"Growlithe, use [Tackle]." Aeron gave the same command with no trace of panic on his face.
Misty and Samurai watched the battle with a frown on their faces. Aeron had only said one command to his Pokémon: a [Move] the orange puppy hadn't mastered yet. They were sure he had other Pokémon with some [Moves] in Beginner-stage, but why was he not using them for the battle? Moreover, he had called out the same attack even when his Pokémon was paralyzed.
"Aeron is teaching it what goes into a battle," Nessa, who could read their thoughts, explained. "Moreover, that cute little puppy is quite persistent. Since its birth, Growlithe had watched Axe battle different Pokémon within the Viridian Forest, "
"Hmm?" Misty and Samurai were confused at her words as they saw Pikachu pummel the orange puppy with a [Quick Attack].
"Let's go." Ash cheered, but to everyone's surprise, the orange puppy stood up and shook off the pain.
Misty and Samurai looked at the Fire-type and then at Nessa, who just shrugged.
"It loves to play fighting with Axew and Horsea...trust me, the little fellow is tougher than it looks."
"You can keep going?"
"Woof."
"Good, now use [Tackle]."
"Pika?" The electric mouse tilted its head when the orange puppy kept standing up. Even its trainer, Ash, was just as surprised but immediately called for the next attack.
"Pikachu, full power [Thunder Shock]."
"Pika Pi."
The electric mouse gathered Electric-type Energy before firing it at Growlithe, but the orange puppy took it like a champ and kept running toward the electric mouse.
"Grrr." Growlithe groaned in pain as Electric-type Energy burned its fur. But it ignored all pain and kept running toward its opponent with only one thought in mind.
[Tackle]
It wanted to [Tackle] the Pikachu and fight battles just like Axew.
"Woof."
"It did it!" The Samurai said in shock as he looked at the Normal-type Energy around Growlithe that was no longer disappearing.
"Pikachu, push it back!"
Aeron watched as Growlithe inched closer to its opponent even though Pikachu tried to blast him off with the [Thunder Shock]. A worried look appeared on his face, which he quickly hid and said. "Do it, Growlithe!"
"WOOF!"
The orange puppy slammed its body into the electric mouse, sending it flying into a tree.
"Pikachu, you alright?"
"Pi." The electric mouse stood up with a few scratches on its body and looked at Growlithe, who was wincing in pain.
"Let's use [Quick Attack]..."
"Growlithe is unable to battle; the victory goes to Pikachu." Misty immediately announced when the orange puppy collapsed to the ground. She looked at Aeron, who walked up to his Pokémon before picking it up in his arms and applying a recovery potion.
"You did great. We will win this for sure." Aeron knew he was fighting a losing battle when he paired Growlithe with Pikachu. However, he wanted the young Pokemon to get some experience, unlike Axew, who got it the hard way.
"Man, you have one tough Growlithe." Ash could not help but comment. "But we are going to win this, right Pikachu?"
"Pika Pi."
"Aeron, your next Pokémon," Misty said as she started the thirty-second countdown. He would have to send the next Pokemon in that time or lose the match by default.
"It will be a tough battle for Aeron." Samurai gave out his thoughts. "Even though Growlithe injured Pikachu, it is only a little. Aeron is one Pokemon down, while Ash still has two."
"True, but Ash's luck ends here." Nessa had a confident look on her face when she said those words. Misty raised her orange eyebrow since Aeron only had two other Pokémon. A Larvesta who he caught today and a goofy Dragon. She could not see him winning this with those two Pokémon.
"Axe, take the field."
"Xew Xew!"
The Dragon appeared on the battlefield smiling and looked at the Pikachu, who was ready to battle and then turned toward Aeron, who was carrying the injured Growlithe in his arms. "Xew?" A frown appeared on its face as the smile disappeared.
"Growlithe did its best; now let's win the battle for it; what do you say?"
"Axew." the Dragon-type just nodded and looked at Pikachu with a deep frown.
"You should not underestimate Axe," Nessa told the orange-haired girl. "It might look goofy and ever smiling, but once it battles, I have never seen a Pokémon more aggressive than it."
Misty wordlessly nodded her head before speaking. "Aeron has chosen Axew...Let the battle begin!"
"Pikachu, [Quick Attack]."
The electric mouse ran toward Axew with Normal-type Energy gathered around its body, and just as it was about to slam into the Dragon, Aeron commanded.
"[Dragon Claw]."
Draconic Energy covered its claws, and Axew swung them at the incoming Pikachu.
BANG
Under the shocked eyes of Ash, Misty and Samurai, the electric mouse was sent flying into a tree.
"Charge," Aeron commanded.
Axew pressed down with its feet and shot after the electric mouse struggling to stand up.
"Pikachu, hurry, use [Double Team]." The electric mouse immediately followed its trainer's command, and five Pikachu soon surrounded Axew. "Keep it confused with [Double team] and use [Quick Attack]."
Five Pikachu ran around Axew and occasionally attacked him with a [Quick Attack]. The Dragon-type growled in annoyance, and the face of an injured Growlithe appeared before its eyes.
"Axew!"
It raised its head in the air and roared. Pikachu cancelled its [Double team] and came forward with a [Quick Attack], but it suddenly jumped back when Axew's red eyes easily followed its movements.
"Pi..." A [Leer] followed by [Scary Face] did its job of scaring the electric mouse and lowering its stats.
"Pikachu, don't be scared. [Double Team] once again and then [Thunder Shock]." Ash realized they could not get close and decided to play in the long range.
Aeron watched as five Pikachu appeared around Axew; a [Thunder Shock] would come anytime soon. Axew still hadn't mastered it yet, but he trusted his partner. " Axe, [Iron Tail]."
"Axe...." The Dragon-type closed its eyes and started gathering Steel-type Energy in its tail.
"Pikachu, now!" Ash said when he saw the Dragon-type close its eyes.
"Chu!" The electric mouse shot a bolt of Electric-type Energy, but Axew took it like a champ. It did not even frown as the [Thunder Shock] hit it head on and concentrated on gathering Steel-type Energy.
"He is reckless," Misty exclaimed as she watched the battle, and the Samurai agreed.
"Do you know why Aeron kept Growlithe outside and did not recall him into the Pokeball?" Nessa asked the two, and they shook their heads. She smiled and pointed at the Dragon, whose tail was glowing with Steel-type Energy. "For that."
"Pikachu, [Double Team]."
Pikachu immediately created four clones to confuse its opponent, but Aeron's following words shocked everyone.
"Axew, [Iron Tail] on the ground."
"Axe.....!" The Dragon-type opened its eyes and slammed its tail covered in Steel-type Energy into the ground.
With Axew in the centre, the ground cracked open and turned into blocks that flew into the air.
"Pika!" The electric mouse lost its balance.
Before Ash or Pikachu could react, a pair of red eyes appeared behind the Electric-type with its claws covered in Draconic Energy.
"...Ewwwwww!" Axew slashed its claws at Pikachu, sending it flying and then followed after it. One [Dragon Claw] after another bombarded the electric mouse.
BANG
Ultimately, it slammed into the ground beside Ash and did not get up.
Silence took over the forest before Misty opened her mouth. "Pikachu is unable to battle; Axew is the winner. Ash, choose your next Pokémon."
Her voice was filled with shock and disbelief at what had just happened. She had only spent less than a day with Aeron and Nessa. All this time, she always thought Axew was...not too strong. After all, it was playing around and always had a goofy smile. Who knew the Dragon-type was so strong?
Ash sighed and picked up his Pokémon before applying the recovery potion. "You did a great job, now rest." He did not recall it inside a Pokeball and held his cap before turning it around. "You are strong; I give you that. But I will win this battle for sure."
"Good luck," Aeron replied with a small smile.
"Axew." The Dragon-type said the same.
Ash took out a Pokeball before sending out his final Pokémon. "Pidgeotto, I choose you."
"Preeeee!" The bird Pokémon took into the air.
"Pidgeotto, use [Gust]." The Flying-type flapped its wings and started making strong gusts of wind.
"Axew, use those rocks." Aeron pointed at the small boulders created after the ground was destroyed by Axew's [Iron Tail]. The Dragon-type immediately understood its trainer, grabbed the rocks, and started throwing them at Pidgeotto.
"Dodge them!" Ash panicked at Axew's actions, and the Flying-type stopped using [Gust]; its focus was now on dodging the rocks.
"Pidgeotto, fly into the air and drop down with a [Wing Attack]."
"Preeee!" The Flying-type flew high into the sky, away from Axew's reach and then dropped down with its wings glowing in bluish light; they seemed to have grown larger as well.
"Axe, catch it."
Axew covered its claws in Draconic Energy and raised them toward the incoming bird.
BANG
Their clash created a small explosion that sent debris flying into the sky. Everyone could see Axew and Pidgeotto locked in battle when the dust settled. The Flying-type was trying to use its wings to attack, while the Dragon-type held those wings, not letting them get close to its body.
"Hehe. Now you can't use those claws." Ash smiled as he saw the confrontation and commanded. "Use [Peck]."
"I can say the same for those wings." Aeron's lips curved into a smile. "Axe, dodge and use [Night Slash]."
Pidgeotto tried to use [Peck], but Axew tilted its head to doge the attack before his tusk lit up in Dark-type energy.
Swoosh
"Preeee!" The Flying-type cried in pain as the [Night Slash] tore through its body.
"Finish it with [Iron Tail]."
