The director thought he had misheard Arthur's request. No child would wish that on themselves; especially a first-year fourteen-year-old. Being an adventure was a death wish for someone so young and with room for potential. 

In this kingdom, talented magic users who can't afford magic academies or aren't fortunate enough to earn scholarships usually join the guild as adventurers after a very hard classification test. Under normal conditions, a magic user needed to be at least sixteen to join the guild.

So no way in hell was he going to let such a boy become an adventurer.
