Chapter 98: Tell me... who is it?

Avelina was roughly pushed into the room. She seemed almost a shade of the woman Evelyn remembered: Her disheveled chestnut brown hair cascaded around her face, hiding the tears that had welled up in her eyes, eyes wide with fear, bound, and looking as if she had been crying for hours.

As soon as their eyes met, Avelina shook her head slowly in horror, trying to convey something without words.

Seraphel, the person who had pushed Avelina in, gave Evelyn a sly, knowing grin as she passed by. It was a smile that held too many secrets, none of them pleasant.

Just before leaving the room, Seraphel took a moment to send a cold, piercing glare Avelina's way, leaving her even more rattled.

With a subtle gesture, she secured the door, and the faint hum of a locking mechanism signaled their isolation.

"Avelina!" With a rush of concern and confusion, Evelyn approached Avelina and removed the gag from her mouth.
