Chapter 2: Chapter 2 : System...??

--PAST--

"Lin Biao, do you copy? Retreat! I repeat, retreat immediately!" The voice of General Zhang echoed through the crackling radio.

"Not possible, General. I'm going in. We can't let them overrun our base, and also I won't let those bastards harm my family," I replied with determination, my heart pounding in my chest.

With every step, I felt the weight of the lives at stake. The enemy's advance had to be stopped, no matter the cost. As bullets whizzed past, I pushed forward.

'I can't let them attack now. Our base won't hold. I have to do something.'

With adrenaline coursing through my veins, I infiltrated the enemy base, my senses sharp and my mind focused. This was my moment, the turning point of the battle. I knew the risks, but I couldn't stand by and watch lives be torn apart by war.

Time seemed to slow as I reached the heart of the enemy's stronghold. There, surrounded by darkness, I set my resolve. I was prepared to sacrifice myself to bring an end to their reign of terror.

"Forgive me," I muttered, a touch of arrogance still present in my voice.

And then, in a blinding flash, the explosion erupted, consuming everything in its path. The deafening roar filled my ears as the shockwave threw me backward, my body consumed by the flames.

BOOM

Everything went black. The pain and chaos of war faded away, replaced by a profound stillness. And then, as if emerging from a deep slumber, I found myself standing in a grand hall filled with elegantly dressed people. Their faces radiated joy and excitement, oblivious to the sacrifice I had just made.

Confusion and regret washed over me as I struggled to make sense of my surroundings. How had I ended up here? What had happened to the war-torn battlefield that was supposed to be my last stand? As I tried to gather my thoughts, a torrent of memories flooded my mind. As soon as I realized what was going on, I cursed out loud.

"Shit".

--Just before Biao greets Wen--

"Xue, come with me, let's greet the guests."

'I have to say, the female leads of these novels certainly have otherworldly appearances (well, they are from a different world). Even regular people are more pleasing to the eye. BUT DOES IT MATTER?? Hmm, why did I think that in caps lock? Well, let's not think about it.'

"Yes, young master." 'This girl is here again. Oh, master, when will you give up on her? Sigh... a pity.'

Just as they were about to proceed, Biao paused and issued another command to Xue.

"But before that, Xue, give me immediate access to the communication channel connecting all the guards in the manor. Also, inform Father that I am taking over the security management and I won't tolerate any questions or hesitation. Move swiftly, you have precisely 20 seconds," he commanded, his voice resolute and authoritative, cutting through the air like a sharpened blade.

Xue's eyes widened in surprise, her usual composed demeanor momentarily shattered by the force behind Biao's words. She hurriedly fumbled with her earpiece, connecting the young master to the network of guards. Each passing second felt like an eternity as she navigated the commands, transmitting the weight of Biao's newfound authority to the security forces.

"Young master, it's done. Although a bit confused, your father agreed," she reported, her voice laced with uncertainty.

"Well, thank you," Biao acknowledged, fully aware that his father would agree to any of his unreasonable demands. It was one of the perks of being a young villain, having parents who indulged their every whim.

As they were about to go to Wen, Biao added one more instruction.

"Xue, go to Father and inform him to bring in more guards from the main family. Return within 30 seconds," he instructed, his tone resolute.

Confused but trusting in her master's judgment, Xue quickly left to carry out his request.

Meanwhile, Biao activated his own earpiece and addressed all the bodyguards in the manor.

"Guards, urgent orders. Everyone, except the one guarding the main door, leave your posts quietly and discreetly surround the young man beside Wen. Keep your presence hidden and wait for my signal. On the first signal on the right hand, aim at him, ready to kill at any moment. On the second signal, shoot immediately. However, the signal on the left will signify a return to your original positions. You have 10 seconds to comply. Anyone failing to do so will be dealt with according to family law. Is that clear?" Biao's voice commanded authority, leaving no room for doubt.

A resounding chorus of "Yes" echoed through his earpiece, indicating their understanding and obedience. With the necessary instructions conveyed, Biao resumed his walk towards Wen, ready to greet her. By this time, Xue had returned, her confusion temporarily set aside.

'Being a seasoned mercenary, he possessed a keen instinct that will allow him to detect the subtle presence of concealed firearms trained on him. If he possessed the intelligence and experience I anticipate, he would understand the gravity of the situation and choose compliance over recklessness. Survival would be his sole concern.

However, should he prove to be a foolhardy individual who disregards the consequences, then the second signal would swiftly follow. In a flurry of calculated precision, twenty bullets would converge upon him from different angles, each one finding its mark. I, too, would contribute one shot to seal his fate. Despite any mortal prowess he may possess, no matter how good he would be, he is still a human after all, not an immortal.'

With these thoughts weighing heavily on his mind, Lin Biao approached Miss Yan

"Good evening, Miss Yan. I hope there was not any problem reaching here. How are you?"

--PRESENT--

'He really is the Dragon King, but I think I can handle it. After all, I am not just a nobody in both of my lives.'

Though resentful after greeting Biao as Young Master Lin, Ye Chen quickly composed himself and started acting normally as if he could not sense that he was surrounded by many experts.

Simultaneously, Xue, having keenly observed the presence of the surrounding guards, comprehended the gravity of the situation. She understood why the Dragon King had chosen to suppress his usual pride and arrogance.

'Did Young Master sense that he is someone dangerous and took precautions, or is it only because he saw a young man close to this Yan girl that he went to such lengths?' Xue pondered, her mind filled with curiosity and speculation.

'Judging from his tone earlier, the former seems more valid. But being one year with him, I know how infatuated he is with Yan Wen, so the latter also can't be ruled out,' Xue thought, strongly wishing that the latter would be true. Taking a position beside Lin Biao as if to protect him.

'It's nice to have someone as capable as her by my side,' thought Lin Biao as he continued his talk with the guests.

"Good, Mr. Ye. I hope you protect Miss Yan and perform your duty well. Miss Yan, let's move to the banquet hall. Our elders will be arriving soon," Lin Biao addressed Yan Wen, his voice filled with sincerity.

"Hm, yeah, sure. Let's go," Miss Yan replied absentmindedly, lost in her thoughts.

'He has changed so much. Last week, he was still behaving like a stalker. Now, it's much better. Good for him. But leaving that aside, this Ye Chen wasn't like this with me. He acted all high and mighty. While I tried to hire him normally, only after we developed a friendship did he accept to guard me. And he never once called me 'young miss' or any such respectful title. But now, it's his first time meeting Lin, yet he still calls him 'young master.' Where is your attitude and pride now? Are the Lin's so great?' Miss Yan muttered, expressing her dissatisfaction with her bodyguard.

Accompanied by Lin Biao and engaged in light conversation along the way, the group of six finally arrived at the main hall, where the grand birthday celebration was set to take place.

The room was adorned with elegant decorations, and the atmosphere was filled with anticipation and excitement.

The sound of cheerful chatter filled the air as guests mingled, exchanging pleasantries and congratulating the Lin family on their auspicious occasion. The fragrance of freshly cut flowers and delectable dishes wafted through the hall, enticing the senses and adding to the festive ambiance.

Lin Biao's gaze swept across the room, taking in the sight of esteemed guests and familiar faces. He exchanged polite nods and greetings with family members, "close friends", and influential figures from various sectors. The weight of his responsibilities as the young master of the Lin family settled upon his shoulders, but he carried it with a sense of determination and poise. Surprising everyone with the change in his attitude, the transformation in his demeanor was noticed by those around him, who couldn't help but be intrigued by the newfound assurance emanating from the young Lin Biao.

As the grand celebration progressed, the atmosphere in the main hall was filled with anticipation. The esteemed guests mingled, exchanging pleasantries and admiring the opulent decorations. The Lin family, known for their wealth and influence, had spared no expense in creating an extravagant affair.

Soon, the main guests of the evening arrived, led by Old Lin, the venerable head of the Lin family. He was accompanied by his three sons, including Lin Biao's father, along with their elegant wives. The Yan family followed closely behind, their presence adding an air of prestige to the occasion.

Lin Biao's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lin, exuded elegance and grace as they walked beside Old Lin. Mr. Lin, with his distinguished appearance and a twinkle in his eyes that hinted at wisdom, commanded respect with every step. Mrs. Lin, a regal and graceful woman, possessed an aura of warmth and compassion that made her beloved by all.

Old Lin's arrival was met with enthusiastic greetings and respectful bows from those in attendance.

With a warm smile, Old Lin began addressing the crowd, his voice resonating with authority and wisdom. "Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests, thank you all for gracing us with your presence on my birthday, I welcome you all to our Lin Manor."

This greeting was followed by a wave of applause and congratulations from the crowd, and soon the party began.

As the celebration unfolded, various esteemed guests approached the Lin family to present their gifts. The Lins, known for their prosperity and influence, were no strangers to opulence. The offerings were a testament to the guests' respect and admiration for the Lin family.

Old Lin, a connoisseur of art and antiquities, received several rare and exquisite gifts that reflected his refined taste. Intricately crafted antiques, each with its history, were presented to him. Delicate calligraphy pieces brushed with profound meaning and symbolism, were also offered as tokens of reverence.

With each gift received, Old Lin expressed his gratitude, his eyes gleaming with delight. The room was filled with an air of sophistication and cultural appreciation as the gifts were displayed, capturing the attention of the guests.

Lin Biao couldn't help but feel a sense of awe as he witnessed the reverence bestowed upon his grandfather. The gifts served as a reminder of the Lin family's wealth and stature, as well as their esteemed place in society.

As the evening progressed, the celebration reached its crescendo with lively music, delectable feasts, and joyful conversations. The hall was filled with laughter and merriment, the guests thoroughly enjoying the festivities. Just as the night began to wind down and the guests were engrossed in their final conversations and farewells, a hush fell over the room. Old Lin, the venerable patriarch of the Lin family, stood up from his seat. His commanding presence and distinguished aura captivated the attention of all who were present. With measured steps, he moved to the center of the room, drawing the eyes of the guests.

"As the celebration approachs its end, I have an important announcement to make."

The room fell silent, the anticipation growing even more palpable.

Old Lin continued, his gaze sweeping across the room. "In light of the longstanding relationship between the Lin and Yan families, it gives me great pleasure to announce the betrothal of Lin Biao, my beloved grandson, to the esteemed Miss Yan Wen."

A murmur of surprise and intrigue filled the hall, followed by a wave of applause and congratulations. Lin Biao's parents exchanged proud glances, their joy evident. Yan Wen's parents, standing nearby, wore expressions of approval and contentment, even though it was them who proposed the engagement, the announcement was made by Old Lin, this gesture held great significance for them. It was a symbol of trust and acceptance, solidifying the bond between the two families.

Lin Biao's mind raced as he processed the news. He turned to meet Yan Wen's eyes, and for a fleeting moment, their gazes locked. Thoughts and emotions swirled within him, but he remained composed, ready to face the path that lay ahead.

Old Lin, observing the reactions of those present, spoke again. "May this union bring prosperity and harmony to both families. Let us raise our glasses and toast to the future of Lin Biao and Yan Wen!"

Glasses clinked together, a symphony of well wishes and celebratory cheers filling the air.

Amidst the joyful atmosphere, three individuals wore expressions of discontent and concern

Yan Wen, though devastated, maintained a composed facade. Deep inside, her heart trembled with uncertainty. 'I can't go back now,' she thought, her confidence shaken. 'Although he has changed a little, I'm still not sure about this Lin Biao.' Despite her internal turmoil, she forced a small smile, holding onto the last shreds of her dignity.

Leng Xue, Lin Biao's faithful bodyguard, sighed softly. 'Now that it has come to this, I don't know what lies ahead. All I can do is pray for my young master. How will he navigate a life with someone who despises him?' Concern etched across her face as she contemplated the challenges that awaited them.

Ye Chen, his eyes gleaming with determination, analyzed the situation. 'According to my sources, Lin Biao is just a good-for-nothing second-generation young master who is pestering Wen Wen even though she doesn't reciprocate his feelings. Currently, no one is targeting me. It seems I need to teach the Lin's a lesson.' Confidence and pride brimmed within Ye Chen as he contemplated taking action to disrupt this so-called happy event. Just as Ye Chen was about to make his move to disrupt the event, a voice cut through the air, interrupting the proceedings and capturing everyone's attention.

"I OBJECT, GRANDFATHER!" Lin Biao's sudden outburst echoed throughout the hall, shocking every single person present. The fame he had gained as Yan Wen's persistent suitor, often referred to as her "licking dog," made his objection all the more unexpected.

Just as he was about to explain further, a wave of surprise washed over Lin Biao as he sensed an interruption in his thoughts. His mind was flooded with unexpected messages, as if someone or something had forcefully entered his consciousness.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Bliss_Writer Bliss_Writer

After writing these two chapters, I can't help but wonder if the pacing is a bit slow. I mean, even though these are just two chapters, they total at around 5000 words. In the world of villain transmigration novels, it's not uncommon for more significant developments to unfold in the same word count. So, here's my dilemma: should I pick up the pace and trim unnecessary details to create a faster-paced story?

I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter. Do you prefer a faster tempo or would you like me to stick with the current approach.

And yes, thanks for reading, any kind of review or comment is welcomed please do share my work!!
