Flames danced across Aiden's skin, their hungry tongues licking at his flesh. He sat cross-legged atop the inferno, eyes closed, body trembling—both from searing pain and an odd sense of satisfaction. More than a month had passed since he'd begun training under his mysterious master, and he could describe the experience with a single word: hell.

Not that he knew what hell actually looked like, but he was fairly certain he was experiencing at least a fraction of it. His master's constant reminders didn't help: "I used to go through five times more intense training than this," the crimson-eyed man would say with that infuriating smirk, as if Aiden's current torment was merely a gentle warm-up.
